<I>2=. Photographie</I> directe <I>et</I> tirage <I>en, relief</I> pseudoinorphe.
<I>3. Tirage en relief</I> naturel <I>de</I> clichés n <I>re-</I> <I>lief</I> pseudornorphe.
<I>7. Tirage de</I> photographies <I>avec</I> oic <I>sans</I> <I>relief, à partir de films gaufrés</I> iiégat;fs.
<I>8. Tirage</I> d'épreuves comportant <I>des sé-</I> <I>lecteurs différents de celui du</I> cliché.
Device for obtaining photographs in relief. ' Certain methods of relief photography are known in: view of the application of which the entire camera is positioned vis-à-vis the fixed subject, the light rays impressing the sensitive plate after having crossed the objective and a selective network.
Various devices have been proposed for the application of these methods. They must include precise mechanical means as surant a uniform movement of the plate, the selector and .de optics, in a strictly horizontal plane, with respect to the frozen object.
It is understandable that when it comes to obtaining macro photographs in relief taken under very high magnification, the mobility of the whole of the apparatus makes the fixedness of the images precarious, during the recording path, and the sharpness of the photographs is affected.
Rather than studying complicated and costly devices providing in fact guiding, the applicant investigated which were the elements whose lack of fixity was the most harmful, and which were those whose proper guiding could be most easy. lly obtained.
The present invention relates to a device produced as a result of this study, and which lends itself very particularly well, although not exclusively, to the very greatly enlarged relief photography of small objects. One of its characteristics consists in -the fact that it has a fixed optic, thus offering all the desirable stability.
To record the succession of elementary images of the object, taken from different angles, in accordance with the methods mentioned above, the translation is no longer caused: common, along a rectilinear or curved path, of the optics, the selector and the the photo graphic plate, but quite simply the rotation of the object, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, that of the conjugate plate as a selector.
It can be seen that these rotational movements, effected around an axis, can be obtained in a much simpler and more precise way than the general translational movement previously caused, and this all the more so as the objects to be photographed, selector and plate are mostly of relatively light weight.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the rotational movement of the object, and that of the plate-holder frame which also contains the selector, are combined with the means. a variable mechanical connection device, so as to modify the amplitude and / or the direction of rotation of the frame with respect to that of the object.
It emerges from the optical properties of lenticular selector networks that rotations of these two elements (object and frame) at equal angles and in the same direction correspond to obtaining photographs giving the real relief and proportional to the dimension. of the image, while a rotation of the object over a greater or lesser angle than that imposed on the frame corresponds to obtaining photographs in which the relief is respectively exaggerated or attenuated.
These variable control means of the relative movements between the object, on the one hand, and the selector-plate group, on the other hand, make it possible to give the device according to the invention a very wide field of applications, among which, in addition to direct photography of course, the following can be indicated: 1. Projection printing of images of parallactic photographs (in relief, in colors or animated), either in the same size, or in enlargement, or in reduction.
2. Direct photography, and reverse relief (pseudomorph) of images obtained naked in real relief, in order to obtain positives for projections.
3. Natural relief print of images showing the pseudomorphic relief. 4. Attenuated relief print (anamorphic) of clichés giving the real relief.
5. Printing, of embossed films (in relief or in colors).
6. Printing without relief from raised images.
7. Printing of photographs with or without relief, from negative embossed films.
8. Printing of positive proofs combined with embossed selectors of optical characteristics different from those of the selector belonging to the negative.
We will come back to these various applications later, by studying the operation of the device.
There is shown in the accompanying drawings, Î Ï, example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention. It is obvious that the device shown is very rudimentary and constitutes only an experimental realization, which however allows the execution of all the operations listed above.
In fig. 1, which gives a schematic plan view of the camera, 1 designates the object to be photographed in relief under high magnification. This object is subject in some way to a support plate 2 rotating around a vertical axis 3.
The object holder 2 is equipped with the fixing means 4 of suitable light sources (projectors, capacitors, etc.) arranged as required. Rotating the object during recording does not in effect. to mount the lighting means on the fixed frame of the apparatus, due to the displacement of the shadows which would then be caused.
To the photographic chamber 5, established to allow very strong prints, is attached the objective 6, which projects the image of the object in the plane of the sensitive plate 7, at the distance corresponding to the desired enlargement contribution. . This plate is placed in the frame 8, also carrying the known selector 9, and oscillating around the axis 10 parallel to the axis 3.
The device for securing the object and the frame in rotation here consists of an articulated parallelogram, formed by the two lifting beams 11 and 12 oscillating around the axes 13 and 14 in line with the axes 3- and 10. The parallelogram is completed. by the two rods 15 and 16 which are journaled at 17 in the lifting beams. A third lifter 18 can slide on the rods 15 and 16, by means of yokes capable of being blocked at any point of the rods, when the knurled knobs 19 are acted on. The plate 2 and the axis 3 are integral in rotation with the lifter 18.
The axis 10 driving the frame 8 is itself controlled in rotation by the intermediary of the movement reference which will be described later.
An electric reducer motor 20 enables the spreader 11 to oscillate at very slow speed around the axis 13. This oscillation is transmitted to the spreaders 10 and 12 via the rods 15 and 16.
As mentioned, the axis 10 is driven from the axis 14 by means of a variable return constituted, in the example shown, by two sets of staggered pulleys designated at 21 and 22, which can be connected by a belt 23, capable of being mounted on corresponding pulleys of the two sets, and possibly crossed.
By this means, it is possible to impose on the selector 9 and on the plate 7 an oscillation of an amplitude equal to, greater than, less than or inverse to that which will have been transmitted to the axis 14, the latter itself being equal to that printed at the hoist 11 by the motor 20.
The respective oscillations of the object 1 and of the frame 8 can be measured, for example, by means of the indexes 24 and 2'5, moving in front of the graduated scales 26 and 27.
There is shown. In FIG. 2 the device used to transform the direct shooting apparatus shown in FIG. 1. It consists of any light box 28 containing the light source 29 and a frosted glass 30. The negative plate 31 and the selector 32 which is integral with it are placed in a frame 33. similar to the frame 8 and can be immobilized ù different depths inside the housing 28.
The assembly replaces the object holder 2, and therefore rotates around axis 3 ..
The operation of the apparatus will now be described by successively examining the various use cases which have been enumerated above.
<I> Direct photographs. </I> In all cases of use, the plate 7 and the selector 9 must oscillate at an angle corresponding to the opening angle of the refractive lenses of the selector, to cover exactly , during printing, the emulsion strip - which is placed behind each lens. It is therefore on the object holder 2 or on the plate holder 28, which can be substituted for the latter, that we will possibly pose an oscillation at a different angle.
If the object 1 is to be reproduced in natural relief, the belt 23 will be mounted on pulleys of equal diameter, without being crossed. We will thus achieve oscillation conditions of equal value and the same direction for the object and for: the cliché. The shooting will be carried out by interrupting the exposure after the index 24 or 2'5 has marked on the scale 26 or 27, from a point of origin, an angle of rotation corresponding to the opening angle of the selector lenses.
If one wishes to exaggerate the relief of the photograph obtained, it suffices to take the photograph after having mounted the belt 2-31 on a pulley of group 22; with a diameter greater than the corresponding pulley of group 21.
In this way, for an oscillation of the axis 10 equal to the opening angle, of the lenses of the selector, an oscillation of the axis 14, and consequently of the axis 3, over an angle more large, the object being thus seen itself on a greater part of its surface.
Conversely, a rotation of the axis 3 lower @ that printed on the axis 10 will give a photograph having a reduced relief. For this purpose, the belt is mounted as indicated at 232.
<I> 1. Printing of the images by </I> projection. The object tray is replaced by the lighting box 2'8 shown in fig. 2 '. Everything happens as for the. direct shooting, both as regards the printing at the same size as the enlargement and reduction of the cliché.
In the same way also that one can at will protrude from the plane of the support of direct photography a more or less large part of the object, by moving this one on the plate ?, all the points of this object located between l 'objective 6 and axis 3 exteriorizing on the image, and all those located beyond this axis appearing behind this plane, it is also possible., by moving the frame 33 to the interior of the housing 28, Obtain prints of a given image where the object will be moved correspondingly with respect to the plane of the image support.
<I> 2 =. Photography </I> direct <I> and </I> print <I> in relief </I> pseudoinorphic. The pseudomorphic relief is obtained, by virtue of the optical properties of the lenticular selector networks, and all the conditions otherwise remaining the same as previously, by crossing the. belt 23 before mounting it on the chosen pulleys, as has been designated at 233. The emulsion is stripped by the light beam emanating from each of the lenses then takes place in the opposite direction.
In the previous case, the direction of this scanning was such that it carried out the reversal of each of the elementary images, while suppressing the natural relief. This reversal is therefore lacking now, and we thus obtain the pseudomorphic relief.
<I> 3. Relief print </I> natural <I> of </I> clichés n <I> re </I> <I> lief </I> pseudornorphic. This application case is identical to the previous one; if the cliché to. shooting is in pseudomorphic relief, the test obtained under the same conditions will give. the natural relief.
<I> 4. Relief print </I> attenuated (a) z, ainorplaosej <I> of </I> clichés <I> giving the </I> real relief <I>. </I> The belt is still mounted on a pulley of group 22 with a diameter smaller than the corresponding pulley. from group 21, such as. we have it. already, designated in 23 \. The plate 7 then does not record, because of the. reduced rotation of axis 3, compared to that imposed on. axis 10, that only part of the images contained in the shot to be taken.
Everything happens as in the case of direct photography and as if the object was only seen from a base shorter than that of the shot.
Printing carried out under these conditions also allows the elimination of the extreme or marginal <B> elementary </B> images given by each lens of the selector belonging to the cliché, which tend to merge with those given by the neighboring lenses.
<I> 5. Printing of the </I> embossed lines <I>. </I> This operation is, for each frame of the film, identical to the printing of a photograph. The negative film as the embossed positive film must therefore oscillate, at each view, an angle equal to the opening angle of the lenses of their embossing. For this purpose, they will be suitably guided in oscillating corridors. The mechanisms for guiding the films and periodically closing the pulling light source are moreover outside the scope of the invention, and do not have to be described here in detail.
<I> 6. Printing without relief from </I> <I> clichés </I> cry <I> relief. </I> The elementary images respectively recorded in all the emulsion bands which correspond to, the width the lenses of the embossed selector as a whole reconstitute, for the observer, a complete image of the subject, at each point of the oscillation of the negative image with the housing 28.
We can therefore photograph on plate or on paper, and at any scale, each of these reconstituted images, by: im mobilizing at the desired point of its course the negative elech provided with its selector. The device then works exactly like an ordinary projection device.
<I> 7. Printing of </I> photographs <I> with </I> oic <I> without </I> <I> relief, from embossed films </I> iiégat; fs. <I> This </I> case is similar to the previous case and to case 1, only one of the images of the negative film, stopped at the desired point in its guide lane, then being considered.
<I> 8. Edition </I> of proofs with <I> ser- </I> <I> readers different from that of the </I> cliché. When selectors with different characteristics are fitted to the negative plate and the positive emulsion support, these selectors comprising lenses of also different opening angles, the variable motion return provided according to the invention makes it possible to easily adapt the relative oscillations of these two elements to the requirements of their respective embossing.
It is obvious that the device described is capable of being produced in very different ways, without the principle of its operation being modified thereby. We have chosen the example of a horizontal device, but there is nothing to prevent the construction of a similar vertical device and remaining in accordance with the invention.
One can also envisage, without going beyond its framework, the establishment of an installation intended for the relief photography of larger objects, or even portraits of people, placed on a platform rotating around a vertical axis, and made solidarity in. rotation of the frame receiving the sensitive plate and the selector.
The apparatus can also be supplemented by auxiliary devices, for example field lenses, or other optical means modifying - in a determined direction the path of the rays between the object and the plate, suitable electrical equipment also being able to ensure at the desired moment the simultaneous rotation of the moving parts is stopped, the automatic shuttering and the extinction of the light source.
