Priorité : FRANCE - 14 juin 1945. ¯¯¯¯¯
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
coulissement longitudinal.
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
la figure i.
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

Patent application "Apparatus for instantaneous relief photography, at variable distance".
Company known as: LA RELIEPHOGRAPHIE,, company for the Exploitation of Relief Photography Processes Maurice BONNET. S.A.R.L.
Priority: FRANCE - June 14, 1945. ¯¯¯¯¯
In its French Patent N 833.891 of July 2, 1937, the Applicant has described and represented a relief camera, in which simultaneously a plurality of negative images of the subject photographed are recorded, each of these images corresponding to a point different view.
This device has three horizontal rows of objectives, the optical axes of which intersect along a line where prisms are placed. The latter distribute the rays cyclically between the lenses of the three rows. light coming from the subject. A photographic plate: -, corresponds to each row of lenses. So there are three plates to impress, for each shot.
The device in question is established for
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
always carried out at the same distance. The partitions separating the photographic chambers which correspond respectively to each of the objectives are, consequently, oriented to converge on the photographed point.
The present invention relates to a relief camera of the same type as that recalled above, but having the essential advantage of being able to operate at any shooting distances, ranging for example from 1.50 m to infinite.
Compared to the device described in the aforementioned patent, it presents, on the other hand, the following main improvements:
1 - This camera has only two rows of lenses, instead of three. Independently of the simplification, of the weight saving and of the reduction in the cost price thus achieved, it becomes possible, as a result, to give all the light rays symmetrical paths inside the same e @ , with respect to the axis thereof, and to obtain, consequently, two rows of negative images have exactly the same photographic characteristics.
2 - The two series of negative images are superimposed on a single shot, perpendicular to the line of sight of the device. This eliminates the inconvenience of the delicate handling and locating of the three separate images obtained in the previous apparatus.
No deviation is to be feared any more, in the development of the different negative images correspond to the same shot.
3 - The arrangement of the new similar is such that the same cliché can be used for them taken in successive views, by simply reversing the plate-holder frame upside down.
4 - This last advantage is further increased by the fact that the vamp-holder frame is provided for double, with two back-to-back clichés.
Under these conditions, other shots can be taken after turning the frame upside down.
The operations of loading and unloading the device are therefore very simplified.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
5 - Finally, the prisms used in the first apparatus are replaced by Mirrors, which allow a reduction. Notable in the weight of the assembly, and are easier to assemble and adjust.
Other features of the invention will emerge from the detailed description which follows, relating to an example of a practical embodiment.
In these drawings:
Figure 1 is a partial cross section of the apparatus described.
Figure 2 is a partial front view with the shutter removed.
Figure 3 shows two partial cross sections passing through two different vertical planes, the lower half of the figure showing the orientable partitions which separate the various photographic chambers that the camera comprises, and the upper half, their control mechanism, located at the two ends.
FIG. 4 is a partial view, in horizontal section, and in plan, of the control mechanism for the partitions.
FIG. 5, which corresponds to FIG. 4, shows the other end of the apparatus, in which the mechanism for locating the shooting distance is housed.
FIG. 6 is a detailed plan view of a mirror-holder plate.
Figure 7 is a cross section of the rangefinder, passing through the line VII-VII of Figure 8.
FIG. 8 is a partial view, in horizontal section taken along the line VIII-VIII of FIG. 7.
Figure 9 shows the complete apparatus, seen from the front.
Figure 10 is a side view thereof.
As shown in Figure 1, the same is essentially made up of a main body A, formed of two halves 1 and 2, assembled along the horizontal plane of symmetry X - Y of the apparatus.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
reil, this plane coinciding with the aiming plane.
It further comprises (see FIG. 10) a rear part B forming a frame carrier, movable relative to the body 4, in the front-rear direction of the apparatus. Gaskets 3 provide a light-tight seal between the two parts A and B which slide on one another. At the front of the apparatus is mounted, in an easily removable manner, the casing 4 of a shutter 5 of the cylinder type, common to all the lenses. This shutter is of the type described by Demenadersane, in the French patent application of February 26, 1943 for Slit shutter for photographic cameras.
According to the invention, the apparatus comprises two horizontal rows of objectives 6-7, located in the same vertical plane, and the optical axes of which are perpendicular to the X-Y axis. The objectives of one row are offset with respect to those of the other row, as shown clearly in FIG. 2, by an amount equal to the half-center distance of said objectives.
Each objective is placed between .. two mirrors inclined at 45, one upper, the other lower, so as to give the rays which live! Slow to impress the cliché in a direction appreciably parallel to that of their entry into the image. The apparatus. These mirrors are arranged in three horizontal rows, namely: a central double row, and two outer rows. These three rows are in the same vertical plane as the objectives.
The mirrors 8 and 9 of the central row, corresponding respectively to the objectives 6 and 7, are carried by a rule 10, fixed to the two halves 1 and?, Rigidly assembled together.
The mirrors 11 and 12 of the two outer rows are respectively resiliently mounted on two plates 13, 14, each of which is removably attached to one of the two halves 1 and 2 of the body of the apparatus. The mirrors 11 and 12 are individually adjustable, thanks to a device which will be described later, As can be seen in FIG. 2, the mirrors 8 and 9 are preferably trapezoidal in shape, in the exemplary embodiment.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
represented, so as to make maximum use of the field of objectives.
The path of the rays in each of the two halves of the apparatus is indicated in phantom in the upper part of figure 1. It can be seen that the light beams concern only the two zones D, D only, in the vertical plane S, Squi represents that of the sensitive surface.
According to the invention, the partitions designated by 15, 16 in Figures 3 and 4 delimit two horizontal series of photographic chambers, each corresponding to one of the objectives.
The two panels 15 and 16, constituting each of these partitions, are capable of sliding one on the other, by means of the guides 17, 18 carried by the panel 16, in the example shown.
The panel 15 of each partition is articulated on the body A of the apparatus, by two vertical pins 19 and 20. Each panel 16 also carries two vertical tenons 21, 22, engaged in the guide slots 23, 24 of two horizontal plates 25, 26, suitably secured in the body A.
In each panel 16 are formed two rectangular openings 27, 28; two horizontal sleepers .29, 30 pass through these openings. At each of their ends, the tracks 29, 30 are connected to a vertical bar 31, of which are integral two guide tubes 32, 33, Return springs 34 push the tubes 32, 33 to the left, in FIG. 3, thus driving the bars 31 and the panels 16 in the same direction.
At the two ends of the bars 31, on the other hand, are formed two nuts 35, in each of which is engaged a screw 36, at the end of each screw is fixed a pinion 37. A chain not shown s 'wound on the four pinions 37, going around the device, and ensures their joint rotation. One of the four screws
36 also carries an angle pinion 38, which meshes with another angle pinion 39, itself controlled from the outside by means of the crank
40 (see figure 4).
The rear part B of the device, forming a frame carrier, is rigidly fixed to the ends of the tubes 32, 33, by the bolts 41, and is therefore integral with these tubes, in their movement.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
longitudinal sliding.
In one of the angles of the apparatus there is provided a device for recording the distance at which the picture was taken.
This device, shown in Figure 5, is partly housed in one of the tubes 33, It is essentially constituted by a curtain lempe 42, partially masked by a screen 43, and which can be automatically switched on at the time of lempe. 'actuation of the shutter 1' pparell, by means of an electrical contact, not shown. This lamp illuminates a disc 44 which carries to its pertphé '. read the figures corresponding to the different shooting distances to be considered. This disc is carried by a sleeve 45, comprising a ball stop 46, and which forms a nut 47. A threaded rod 48 is screwed into this nut, rigidly secured to the body A of the apparatus.
The lamp 42 is housed, at the same time as the screen 43, in a tube 49 which also contains a photographic objective 50. The tube 49 is extended, towards the rear, up to the immediate proximity of the sensitive surface. The disc 44 enters a slot 51 of the tube 49, through its part which bears the graduations. The mode of action of this device will be explained later.
The plate-holder frame, shown in phantom in Figure 3, and designated by C, is of the twin type, that is to say that it consists, in a known manner, of two curtain frames coupled back-to-back . It can therefore receive two plates.
As against FIG. 3, the devices 52 for locking the frame C in part B, devices cooperating with the bolt.
53, and which can be of any embodiment, are provided both at the top and at the bottom of the frame. This can therefore be turned upside down, after the first shot, then be locked again in part B, so as to use, for the next shot, the parts of the sensitive surface that remained. blank on first recording, parts designated by E on
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
figure i. Under these conditions, the two rows of negative images corresponding to the second shot will be oriented head-to-tail, with respect to those of the first shot.
After the second shot, the frame C can be turned upside down, to allow the next two shots, recorded on the second plate it contains.
It is known that the deorit camera must be used for the projection of the multiple negative images of which it has enabled the recording, with a view to printing the positive proofs. However, the double curtain-holder frame just mentioned obviously does not allow the projection of the pictures, since its curtains always hide one of its faces, and it has a solid partition between the panels. two plates it contains.
According to the invention, the device is therefore still provided with a draw frame without curtain, capable of taking the place of the double frame c, in part B. This draw frame, not shown, is in fact made up of a simple frame. It comprises the same locking means 52 as the frame C, and any devices for fixing and adjusting the cliché, which must naturally occupy in the apparatus, for the projection, exactly the same place as during the projection. shooting.
With a view to the projection of the images, it is also necessary to dismantle the cylindrical shutter 5. This is why it is provided easily removable as a whole, for example by means of a known device of slide rails.
It has already been mentioned that the mirrors 11 and the of the two outer rows were mounted individually and elastically on their respective plates 13 and 14. Figures 1 and 6 show in more detail how this assembly is carried out:
Each mirror is secured in a frame 54, to the back of which is fixed a threaded rod 55, which passes through the plate. An adjustable tension coil spring pushes the mount against the inner face of this plate.

Opposite each mirror, the plate carries three setting screws 57, 58, 59 arranged at three points corresponding to the vertices of a right triangle, the rod 55 being the same located at the point of intersection of the three medians of this triangle.
The screws 57, b8, 59 acting on the frame 54, against the action of the spring 56, according to the "point-line-plane" principle, well known in optics.
For this purpose, the point of one of the three screws, 58 for example, bears in a circular cup of the frame 54. The point of the screw 57 is itself engaged in a rectilinear groove, oriented along the line 57- 58. It therefore makes it possible to rotate, without jamming, the mirror around the axis of rotation 58-59. The screw 59 finally bears on a smooth surface of the frame 54. It thus enables the mirror to be pivoted, without jamming, about the axis of rotation 57-58, perpendicular to the axis 58-59.
Thanks to this arrangement, the mirror can be oriented and adjusted with all the necessary precision, with respect to the corre- sponding objective, so as to properly align and distribute the images in a rectilinear row, in the plane of the sensitive surface. S - S (Fig.l).
The camera itself is completed by a coupled telemeter-viewfinder, denoted as a whole by v, and shown in Figures 7 and 8. This rangefinder is mounted on the rear part B of the body of the apparatus. It comprises, in a known manner, a semi-transparent mirror 69 inclined at 45 on the sighting axis, and an end mirror 70, rotating around a vertical axis.
The range finder comprises a sighting frame 71 with a collimator, providing the observer with the same field of view as that of the objectives of the apparatus.
According to the invention, to eliminate the effects of parallax, the body of the range finder is pivotally mounted as a whole, on two horizontal end journals 72, against the action of a return spring 73 which tends to tilt the range finder down.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
On the front part A of the body of the appliance is fixed a ramp 74. A finger 75, belonging to the body of the range finder, is applied to the latter, by the action of the spring 73 ;, 'Thanks to In this arrangement, the reciprocal sliding movement of the two front and rear parts of the body of the apparatus causes the telemetry to tilt; to the extent necessary so that its optical axis always meets the sighting plane of the camera, at the shooting distance.
At the same time as the finger 75 slides on the ramp 74, the end of a lever 76, of which the vertical movable mirror pivot 70 is integral, itself moves against a ramp 77 (see FIG. 8). .
The profile of this ramp is determined, in a known manner, so that the rotation of the mirror 70 is proportional to the focusing distance.
The operation of the device described is as follows:
The plate-holder frame C having been placed in the rear part B of the body of the apparatus, the focusing is carried out by acting on the crank 40, which rotates the pinions 38-39, as well as the screw 36. That -ci transmits its movement to the other three angle screws, via the pinions 37, and the chain which connects them. The rotation of the screws 36 causes the displacement of the two barsu31 in the appropriate direction, by means of the ears 35. The four angle tubes 32,33 are thus displaced axially, against the action of the springs 34. They cause in their longitudinal movement the rear part B of the body of the device, and the frame C it contains.
The distance which separates the sensitive surface and the objectives is thus modified, in the proportion required by the focusing.
The sleepers 29, 30 are moved at the same time as the bars 31; these crosspieces, acting on all the panels 16 of the partitions at the same time, slide the latter into the guide slots
23, 4 corresponding plates 25, 26. The orientation of these slots has been determined to cause the correct directional setting.

of all the partitions 15, 16, at each shooting distance, At the same time, the sliding of the panels 16 against the panels 15 of the partitions allows the lengthening or the shortening of these partitions, to the extent of the displacement of the part rear B, compared to part A.
thus, the rear edge of each panel 16 always remains very close to the photosensitive surface, at all focusing distances, which is essential to ensure a clear delimitation between the different juxtaposed negative views.
The mechanism (the adjustment of the partitions has the effect that they are all parallel, when the focus is at infinity, and that their convergence is the strongest when the camera aims at the closest point compatible with its construction. In figure 4, the partitions shown in thin lines correspond to the focusing of the device on infinity. The line in strong lines is that of the partitions, when the device aims at a close point. - quera that, under these conditions, the total length of the two rows of negative images) recorded at each shooting, is greater when the subject being photographed is brought closer than when it is very far away.
Doiss figure 4,1 indicates, for example, the. length of each row of images for a photograph taken at infinity, and L this same length, for the photograph of a close subject.
During the relative movement of the two parts A and B of the body of the apparatus', the threaded rod 48 (see FIG. 5) has set the disc 44 in rotation, so that its graduation corresponding to the shooting distance is therefore find the field of the objective 50, inside the tube 49.
At the same time, the range finder V, which rests on the ramp 74 (see FIGS. 7 and 8), has received the inclination necessary for its sighting axis to intersect the sighting plane of the apparatus, at the shooting distance of view. The lever 76 of the pivoting mirror 70, by moving against its guide ramp 77, has itself oriented the latter to
