Stereoscopic camera. Stereoscopic cameras are generally equipped with two shooting objectives O1, 02 spaced at a fixed distance from each other and with two windows F1 and B2 fixed in relation to these objectives (see diagram shown in fig. . 1).
When shooting very far away, the images of the center A of the subject which we assume to be infinite are formed at Al and A2 in windows r1 and r2. When taking very close-up pictures,
the images of the center B of the subject which we therefore suppose to be very close to the camera are formed in Bi and B2 in the windows Pl and 1'2. We immediately see that the distances AIA2 and BIB2 are different.
If they are photographic views, the two left and right photos will undergo a cutting and a montage which will bring their centers back to a given distance from each other for their examination either with the stereoscope or with the aid. of a stereoscopic projector of still views. The case of cinematographic projection is different, because the two images are recorded on the same film and there is no possibility of changing the distances Ai A2 and B, B2 between the shooting and projection operations.
If the distance from the projection objectives is such that the projections of A1 and A2 are appreciably superimposed on the screen, the projections of the couple Bi B2 will cross each other strongly and the eyes of the spectator will only merge the two images. at the cost of great fatigue; a sudden change from view A to view B will be particularly painful.
Likewise, in a positive device built for A views at great distances, and used for B views at short distances, the images of the center of the subject will be far apart from the centers of the corresponding windows of the projector: the two images are 'will not embrace the same field and examining the left and right edges of the image projected on the screen will be painful.
On the other hand, a suitable stereoscopic perception is only possible if the extreme frontal planes of the subject lie between two well-defined limits, and the vision will be pleasant only if the two images of a frontal plane included between these two limits are confused on the screen.
The object of the present invention is a stereoscopic camera allowing this frontal plane to be moved at will, the two images of which are merged. This com camera takes two shooting windows each equipped with a lens whose optical axis is fixed with respect to the camera.
It differs from the usual stereoscopic cameras by the fact that at least one of these objectives is provided with an adjustable optical device so that the beam of this objective can be deflected to the side of the beam of the other objective so as to obtain the convergence of the vertical planes containing the optical axes passing through the center of the shooting windows on a vertical straight line continuously movable between two determined limit distances.
.Fig. 2 to 6 of the accompanying drawing represent, by way of example, several embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an axial vertical section through one of the objectives according to the first embodiment, and FIG. 3 is a horizontal axial section through the same lens.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal axial section through one of the objectives according to a second embodiment.
Fig. 5 is a diagram showing the arrangement of the objectives and the deflection devices on a camera, the viewfinder of which forms a range finder.
The fi-. 6 is a diagram of a variant of the camera shown in FIG. 5.
The objectives equipping. the camera according to the first embodiment, shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, each include a support sleeve 1 having a thread 2 allows each lens to be screwed onto the camera. Inside the support sleeve 1 is placed a sleeve 3 threaded internally.
This socket 3 is fixed axially by a ring 4 screwed onto the socket @ support 1 and by a ring 5 made integral with the socket 3 by screws 6. In the socket 3 is screwed a tubular part 7 carrying the optical system of the 'objective, that is to say a barrel 8 in which are fixed three lenses 9, 10 and 11. This tubular part 7 also carries an adjustable optical device making it possible to deflect the beam from iui objective towards the beam from the other lens.
This optical device comprises two optical elements, in this case two lenses 12 and 13, the lens 1.2 being in the convex plane and the lens 13 in the concave plane, the curvature of these lenses being the same. As can be seen in the drawing, lens 13 is,
integral with a ring 14 screwed into the tubular part 7 while the lens 12 is integral with a bent part 15 in the general shape of .de -U. The end of the arms of (J is pivoted on screws 16 fixed in the tubular part 7. It should be noted that the pivot axis of the elbow part 15 is vertical and passes through the center of the sphere whose lens 1.2 presents a portion.
As shown in fig. 3, the bent part 15 also has an extension 15a bearing against the front part 17 of the ring 5 under the action of a spring not shown. This front part 17 forms a cam and the rotation of the ring 5 therefore makes it possible to vary the position of the lens 12 in relation to it. to the lens 13. Now, as can be seen in particular in fi. 3, the two lenses 12 and 13 together constitute a prism whose angle of the main faces 1.8 and 19 is. variable.
Thus, any horizontal displacement of the lens 12 around the pivot axis determined by the screws 16 will effectively cause a change in the deflection angle of the beam passing through the objective.
To prevent any rotation of the tubular part 7, the latter is provided with a pin 20 projecting radially and sliding axially in a slide 21 integral with the support sleeve 1. It should be noted, in addition, that 'a diaphragm 22 controlled from the rear of the lens via a socket 23 is incorporated therein between the lenses 9 and 10.
So it stands out. of the above description that any rotation of the ring 5 causes, on the one hand, a displacement of the len tille 12 relative to the lens 13, this by virtue of the front face 17 in the form of a cam of this ring 5 and, on the other hand., an axial displacement of the tubular part 7 and therefore (the whole optical system 9 to 13.
The shape of the cam 17 and the pitch of the threads connecting the sleeve 3 to. the tubular part 7 are chosen so that the adjustment of the point of convergence of the two beams using the ring 5 at the same time causes the focusing of the objective at a distance in correspondence with said point of convergence gence.
In the second embodiment shown in FIG. 4, each lens comprises, as in the first embodiment, a support sleeve 1 provided with a thread 2, a sleeve 3, a tubular part 7 carrying the optical system formed of lenses 9, 10 and 11 fixed in the part 8 Likewise, a diaphragm 22 is incorporated in the objective between the lenses 9 and 10, this diaphragm being controlled from the rear of the objective by the intermediary of a socket 23.
However, for this purpose, the ring 5 is replaced by a base 24 made integral with the sleeve 3 by (the screws 6 and this ring 24 as well as the sleeve 3 can be displaced axially relative to the support sleeve 1. on the other hand, the tubular part 7 is provided with a ring 25 having a slide 26 in which a plug 27 is engaged.
So Exhibit 7 is. fixed angularly, but can be moved axially. In this embodiment, the device for deflecting the beams comprises two optical elements formed by two prisms 28 and. 29 with flat faces. Each of these prisms is carried by a ring 30, respectively 31, the axis of which coincides with the axis of the objective. ("The rings 30 and 31 are each provided with a toothing 32, 33 respectively, and a pinion 34 rotating on a screw 35 fixed to the part 7 meshes simultaneously with the two teeth 32 and 33.
The ring 30 is. made integral with the ring 24 by a pin 36.
Thus, when the ring 24 is rotated, the prism 28 is rotated in the same direction as said ring 24, while the. prism 29 is driven in the opposite direction, thanks to the teeth 32 and 33 and the pinion 34.
In this construction, the deflection of the beam goes from a maximum (position shown in Fig. 4) to a minimum corresponding to zero deflection. Indeed, as the two prisms 28 and 29 are identical, when they are in opposite posi- tions, their faces 37 and 38 are parallel to each other, as are their faces 39 and 40.
In this embodiment, the pitch of the threads by which the sleeves 1 and 3 are connected is chosen such that, for a given deflection of the prisms 28 and. 29, the optical system 9, 10 and 11 is focused at a distance corresponding to the point of convergence of the beams. The latter device therefore makes it possible to obtain the same results as the first described.
It should be noted that in the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, instead of using lenses 12 and 13 as optical elements, it would very well be possible to use cylindrical lenses in the concave plane and in the neck plane. .
In addition, the cam 17 instead of acting axially could be provided to act radially on a somewhat modified extension 15a.
As a further variant, the binding of the lenses 12 or 13 could be movable horizontally in arcuate slides.
Fig. 5 schematically shows the arrangement of two objectives 41 and 42 and of a deflector device formed of two pairs of cylindrical lenses 43 and 44 on a camera. From phis., This fig. : 5 shows how the deflector devices could be used as a focusing range finder.
Indeed, between objectives 41, 42 and. I plane of the film 45 are arranged prisms 46, respectively 47. These prisms each have a semi-reflecting surface 48, respectively 49 intercepting part of the light beam from each lens and deflecting it towards the sighting plane of the device. The rays coming from the surface 48 are returned upwards by a total reflection surface 50 towards a viewer 51.
The rays coming from the surface 49 are returned in the same way upwards in the direction of the viewfinder 51 by a semi-reflecting surface 52 through which passes part of the rays coming from the surface 48: the eye therefore observes two images. through the viewfinder eyepiece 51.
A camera equipped with the devices described above is easy to handle. It suffices to make the two images perceived by the eye coincide in the viewfinder 51 , this by manipulating the rings 5, respectively 24, so that the objectives are focused on the ob target jet and that in addition the beams of the two objectives also converge on said object, or possibly in front of or behind it, depending on the initial setting chosen.
The embodiment shown in thread: 6 is a variant of that shown in FIG. 5 in which the eyepiece of the viewfinder 51 at the link of being with axis, vertical is with horizontal axis tal.
In this latter embodiment, hs semi-reflecting surfaces 48 and 49 deflect part of the beams of the objectives upwards. The vertically directed rays are then directed horizontally towards the rear of the camera by total reflection surfaces 53 and 54.
A fully reflecting surface 55 then reflects the rays coming from the surface 48 onto a semi-reflecting surface 56 which directs them towards the eyepiece 51. The rays coming from the surface 49, after having been deflected by the lens. surface 54 with total reflection, are directed by means of the surfaces also with total reflection 57 and 58 through the surface 56 in the direction of the ocular 51.
This arrangement therefore allows the eye, as in the previous camera, to see the two images.
The handling of the latter embodiment is similar to that of the previous one.
In these last two embodiments, the semi-reflecting or fully reflecting surfaces all consist of prism faces worked accordingly.
It is well. understood that the surfaces with total flexion could be replaced by mirrors instead of being constituted by the faces of certain prisms.
In the various embodiments described, the adjustable optical device used to make the beams of the two objectives of the camera converge on a vertical straight line movable continuously between two determined limit distances, for example infinity and two meters, or three meters and one meter,
always comprises in front of each objective a group of at least two optical elements which can be moved relative to one another.
However, it is understood that one could deflect only one of the said beams next to the other. Therefore, it would suffice. to provide only one of the two objectives of the camera with an optical deflector.
As a further variant, each optical deflector device could comprise more than two optical elements, for example three prisms, three, lenses or more.
It is understood that in the case where each objective is provided with optical deflection elements, a mechanical connection can be provided between the rings 5, respectively 24 of the objectives so that it is sufficient to actuate a single operating member. cause the two beams to deflect in the opposite direction.
