Fig. 4 représente une variante.
Lighter with jumping lid. The subject of the invention is a lighter with a pop-up cover, the appended drawing of which shows, by way of example, one embodiment and one variant.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the first form.
Fig. 2 is a view in the direction of arrow A in FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top view, the cover being removed.
Fig. 4 represents a variant.
The lighter shown in fig. 1 to 3 com carries a body 1, the interior of which, hollowed out, constitutes a reservoir 2 for the liquid fuel. At the upper part of the body 1 is provided a notch 3 (fig. 3), inside which is pivoted a cover 4 mounted on a pin 5. This cover 4 is intended to cover the wick 6 which is arranged, as well as the wheel 7 and the stone 8, on the upper part of the body 1. The wheel 7 is mounted on an axis 9 which also carries a control wheel 10 making. slightly protruding on the body 1 along one of its edges. The wheel 7 is rotated by acting with the thumb on the control wheel 10, via the wolf-tooth coupling 19.
The wheel 7 and the control wheel 10 are mounted idly on the axis 9. In the wheel 10 is driven a part 23 having a frustoconical bead and a wolf tooth toothing engaging in a similar toothing that has the wheel. 7. This coupling allows the drive in one direction (arrow C) of the wheel 7.
The wheel 10 has in its lower end a housing containing a coil spring 20 working in torsion and compression and whose ends are fixed one to the wheel 10, the other to the body 1. This The spring tends to return the knob 10 in the direction of arrow B, until the pin 22 of the knob abuts against the pin 21 of the body 1.
In a hollow of the body 1 is disposed a rod 11 that a spring 12 tends to push outward. The end of the rod 11 is constantly in contact with the cover 4, in order to push it back into the open position shown in the drawing, under the action of the spring 12.
The cover 4 has a recess 13 in which the mo lette 7 is partially housed when the cover -is brought into the closed position, as well as a recess 14 for housing the wick 6.
In a bore 15 of the cover is placed a small piston 16 having a head retaining it in this bore, while its rod protrudes into the recess 13. A small coil spring, arranged in the bore 15, supports, d ' on the one hand, on the head of the piston 16 and, on the other hand, against a screw closing the opening of the bore. This spring tends to push the piston 16 so that it remains in the position for which it protrudes as far as possible into the recess 13.
When one acts on the cover, against the action of the spring 12, to bring it into its closed position, the small piston 16 meets the frustoconical surface of the bead 17 and slides on this surface. by withdrawing into the bore 15 until the piston 16 exceeds the lower edge of the bead. At this moment, the piston 7.6 is pushed back by the spring arranged in the bore 15 and comes to be placed under this edge, locking the cover in the closed position.
In the bead 17 is made a notch 18 which, when it is brought against the piston 16, allows the latter to pass, the cover then being returned upwards by the action of the spring 12.
The lighter represented and described operates as follows: With the cover locked in the closed position, you will act with your thumb on the control wheel 10. By this single operation, you will: obtain the opening of the cover when the gas is passed. 'notch 18 opposite the piston 16, as well as the spark which will ignite the wick.
The spring 20, as soon as the knob 10 is released, returns the latter to its initial position (fig. 3), without driving the ignition knob 7. In this position, the notch 18 is out of the way of the piston 16, so that by lowering the cover the piston engages under the bead. Locking of the cover is thus ensured at each stroke.
In a variant, the cover could be returned to the open position by means of a torsion spring mounted around the pivot axis of the cover, instead. This would have the advantage of eliminating the hollow in the body 1 , which would increase the volume of the reservoir 2. FIG. 4 shows an alternative embodiment in the drive of the ignition wheel and the locking of the to be returned by the rod 11 and the spring 12. cover.
The principle is the same as in the example which has just been described; the parts which are different will therefore not be described.
In this variant, the drive wheel 10 is forced onto a hollow shaft 24, on which the wheel 7 is mounted loose, which has a wolf-toothed toothing unit cooperating with a similar toothing of a dragging piece 23 integral with the wheel 10. The upper end of the tubular shaft 24 has a quadrant (not shown) on which is engaged a frustoconical washer 26 having a notch 27.
The cover also includes a udder 16 which cooperates with this washer 26 for locking the cover. This is shaped so as to cover, in addition to the wick, the wheel 7, and the washer 26.
The operation is identical to that of the lighter according to fig. 1 to 3.
In the two examples, the engagement of the teeth is ensured by the spring 20 which also works in compression. This double work is possible, because the compression force is not great. The dimensions and arrangement of the components are established so as to have a large diameter ignition wheel.
