Briquet pyrophorique.
Pyrophoric lighter. The present invention relates to a pyrophoric lighter of the type in which means for producing a spark are actuated automatically by opening a cover. The present invention aims to provide an automatic lighter with a sober and elegant appearance, which is safe to operate and easy to use.
In the lighter according to the invention, said cover, tending to open under the action of a spring, is retained in the closed position by a retaining device, comprising. another spring and capable of being triggered, to release the cover, by means of a control wheel integral with a cam cooperating with this retaining device.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the lighter object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial sectional side elevation of this lighter, showing the cover in the closed position.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 of the top of this lighter, showing the cover in the open position.
Fig. 3 is a section taken along line III-III of FIG. 1, seen in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the cover and the wheel mechanism associated with the removed cover, and FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the device for retaining and releasing the disassembled cover.
The drawing shows a lighter of the automatic type, in which a cover carries a snuffer cap and is mounted to vote on the body of the lighter, so that when the cover is triggered a spring forces it to rotate around its pivot. and that during this movement a mechanism intended to produce a spark is actuated. The body 10 of the lighter serves as a container for the fuel and has an upper plate II on which is mounted a control mechanism. A cover intended to enclose this mechanism is made in two parts. One part 12 is rigidly fixed to the top of the lighter and the other part 13 is mounted to vote on part 12, so that it can turn around its pivot when the lighter is in use and uncover a wick 25.
The pivot mounting of the part 13 of the cover comprises a pivot pin 7.4 with a head and passing. through holes made in the side parts of the two parts 12 and 13 of the cover. This dowel is held in position by a screw, not shown, which engages in a threaded hole made in the end of the dowel opposite the head. A spring 15 is mounted on the pivot pin 14, so as to be covered by the cover. One end of this spring engages with a fixed part of the lighter and the other end engages in part 13 of the cover, so that this spring presses on part 13 and tends to make it rotate around its pivot and to come occupy the position shown in FIG. 2.
The device provided for retaining part 13 in the closed position and for releasing it and allowing it to come into the open position is more clearly shown in FIG. 3 and comprises a plate 16 mounted to slide on the upper plate 11 and held in position by a retaining plate 17 (Figs. 2 and 5). One end of the sliding plate 16 carries a hook 18 and part 13 of the cover has a flange 19 provided to engage in hook 18 when part 13 is in the closed position. The sliding plate 16 is held by a spring 20 in a position such that the flange 19 is engaged in the hook 18.
In the embodiment shown, the flange 19 projects out of the part 13, the hook 18 being rotated in a direction facing the length of the smoothing plate 16 and the latter is biased in the direction. opposite to the hook by -a leaf spring 20, one end of which is fixed to the rigid part 12 of the cover and the other end of which engages in the end of a or opening 21 formed in the sliding plate 17. In another embodiment, not shown, the sliding plate is biased by a spring in an opposite direction, and the hook or the finger, arranged at the end of this plate, cooperates with an internal projection of the pivoting part of the lid.
A recess 22 is provided at one end of the upper plate 11. A knurled control wheel 23 is mounted in this recess so as to be able to rotate around a pivot pin 24. The pin 24 is threaded at its lower end and is screwed into a threaded hole, made in the upper plate. It has a central hole through which passes the wick 25. The lower end of this wick extends into the body 10 of the lighter and its upper end extends slightly beyond the widened upper end 26 of the pin 24. The control wheel 23 comprises a boss 27 formed on its upper face and forming a cam.
This boss extends into a hole 29 of the sliding plate 16, so that the surfaces 28 engage with the edge 30 of one end of the hole 29.
When the control wheel 23 is rotated, a slight rotation of this wheel is sufficient for the surface 28 resting against the edge 30 to slide the smoothing neck plate 16 against the action of the spring 20, so as to release the rim 19 of the hook 18. The part 13 of the cover is thus released and rotates around its pivot 14, under the action of the spring 15, to come into the open position, as shown in FIG. 2. The hook 18 and the flange 19 preferably have shapes such that, when the part 13 is returned to the closed position, the extension 19 moves the sliding plate 16 and that, when this re edge has passed the hook 18, the latter pledge it with him.
To guide the sliding plate, the retaining plate 17 has a part of greater thickness 31, projecting downwards and engaging in an enlarged part 32 of the opening 21 of the sliding plate.
The outer wall of the body 10 is recessed in the vicinity of the control wheel 23, so that the latter is accessible and can be actuated by a finger or by the thumb, or by both a finger and the thumb.
A stone wheel 33 is mounted for pivoting, also on the peg 14, and the face of this wheel is provided with a ratchet wheel or ratchet teeth 34, or is formed so as to constitute such a wheel or ratchet. such teeth. The wheel 33 is disposed between the lateral parts of the parts 12 and 13 of the cover which surround it. A pyrophoric stone 38 is pushed in the usual manner through a hole in the top plate, by a spring not shown, to engage with the wheel.
The mechanism for actuating the device intended to produce the spark is more clearly shown in fig. 4 and com takes a pawl plate 35, mounted to slide in part 13, and having a part bent at right angles, from the main part of the plate, to form a pawl 36, intended to engage therewith. the ratchet. The pawl plate is cut at 40 to accommodate a spring. 37, of which. one end engages with the inner front face of part 13 and the other end of which engages with the shoulder 40 'provided behind the cutout part 40. The plate 35 is mounted to slide between the upper wall 13 ' of the. part 13 and an inner wall 41 which carries a snuffer cap 39.
As shown, the snuffer cap can be resiliently mounted on a spring, so as to rest on the enlarged end 26 of the pivot pin 24, and to enclose the end of the wick when the lid is closed. Means are provided to limit the rearward movement of the plate 35, under the effect of the spring 37 which tends to cause this plate to come out of its housing in part 13; in the device shown, the inner end of the plate 35 is curved at right angles at 42, so that a portion of the snuffer cap 39, extending upwardly beyond the wall 41, restricts the movement towards the back of the plate.
At its end opposite to the folded portion 42, the plate 35 may include a finger 43 which engages between the wall 13 ', the pivot pin 14, the side wall of the portion 13 and the face of the ratchet wheel. 3.1, in order to guide the pawl 36 during the sliding movement of the plate 35.
When the part 13 of the cover rotates around its pivot 14 under the effect of the spring 15, the mechanism. ratchet and ratchet rotates thumbwheel 33 in the same direction and produces sparks which are launched by the stone at the exposed end of the igniting wick.
