Lighter with jumping lid. The invention relates to a lighter with a jumping lid, of which the accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment, as well. only details of variants: Fig. 1 is a partial elevation from the side of said embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a view. from above .de this form: execution, the cover being assumed removed.
Fig. 3 shows, on a larger scale and partially in section, a detail of a variant.
Fig. 4 shows a part with an angular cross section and a screw head shown in the embodiment of FIGS. 1: and 2, these two parts being seen from below, whereas in fig. 2 they are seen from above.
Fig. 5 and 6 are views similar to to FIG. 4, but relating to two other variants.
The lighter shown in fig. 1 and 2 com carries a body 1. .do.nt the interior, hollowed out, constitutes a reservoir for the liquid fuel. At the top of: body 1 is provided a notch 2., inside which is pivoted a cover 3 !. This cover 3 'is mounted on an axis 4 pivoting in the two edges limiting the notch 2.
A spring 5 tends. to maintain the cover 3 in its open position shown in fig. 1. This cover 3-: is: intended to cover the wick 6 (fig. '2): which is placed, as well as the carpet 7, on the upper part of the body 1.
Stone 8 is housed in a hole made in one of the edges. limiting the notch 2, a spring 9 constantly pressing the. stone 8 against the wheel 7.
The wheel 7 is mounted on an axis 10 formed by a screw screwing into the body 1. A control wheel 11 is also mounted on the axis 10. It is integral with the wheel 7 and protrudes slightly from the body 1 on the along one of its edges :. The wheel 7 is rotated by acting with the. thumb on the control wheel 11.
In the cover 3, a hole 1'2 parallel to its upper face is made; and in which there is a small piston 13, the rod of which protrudes from one end of this hole, under the action:
a spring 14 housed in the bore and bearing, on the one hand, on said piston 13 and, on the other hand, on a screw 15 screwed into the threaded opening of the bore 12. When the cover 3 is brought into closed position, the rod:
of the piston 13 comes to occupy a radial position relative to the circular head 16 of the screw constituting the axis 10 of the wheel. The end of the piston rod meets the edge of this head 16 which pushes the piston back against the action of its spring 14. Once the piston arrives below the head 16, the spring 14 pushes it back. and the piston is hand held under this head, which locks the cover in the closed position.
It will be noted that the edge of the head 16 of the screw is frustoconical, which allows: the end of the piston to slide on this edge by retreating inside the bore 12 without requiring any efforts. A part 17 is mounted loose on the axis 1.0, between the wheel 7 and the head 16 of the screw.
This part 17 has a transverse section: ale square and the vertices of this square are arranged on a circle having at least the same diameter as the base circle of the head 16.
The face of the wheel 7 which is in contact with the part 17 is notched so that this face has a projection 18 in the form of a smaller surface segment., Than half of the total surface of this face. Similarly, the face of the part 17 which is in contact with the wheel 7: is notched so that this face has a projection 19 with a surface area smaller than half of the total surface of this face.
Thus, the projections 18 . And 19 -coo: interlock to ensure the rotational drive of the part 17 by the wheel 7, while allowing a small relative rotational movement between wheel 7 and part 17.
The -lighter that has just been described works as follows: With the cover locked in the closed position, as explained above, if you act with your thumb on the control wheel: press 1, the ignition wheel 7 is driven.
The latter, by its projection 18 coming in -con tact with the projection 19: of the part 17, drives this part in rotation. One of the flat faces of the part 17 comes into contact with the end of the rod of the piston 13 and pushes the latter against the spring 14. When one of the edges of the part 17 corresponding to at one of the vertices of the -square section, arrives opposite the end of the. piston rod, this:
end is pushed to the edge of the head 1,6 and the cover is released. Its output 5 recalls it in the open position. In all cases, therefore, a rotation of at most a quarter of a turn is sufficient for the cover to be released.
When the cover is returned to the closed position, it will be locked in this position by engaging the end of the piston rod below the edge. of the head 16 of the screw, as mentioned above. But it could happen that an edge of part 17 is exactly opposite the end of the piston rod.
In this case, this rod, under the action of the spring 14, will act on the part 17 to make it turn slightly relative to the wheel 7, by acting on one or the other of the faces: located on either side on the other side of said edge. This slight rotational movement of the part 17 will allow the end of the piston rod to catch under the edge of the head 16 ,.
In the variant, of the fi-. 3, the head 16 of the screw has an edge formed by two frustoconical parts having their large common bases. The lower frustoconical part cooperates with the conical end of the piston rod 13, so that the small clearances glued to wear are taken up automatically, the spring 14 pushing the:
piston 3 in such a way that, by the cooperation of the conical parts of the head 16 and of the piston rod, the cover is always kept in contact with the upper part of the body 1.
It goes without saying: that the part 17 could have a cross section other than a square, provided that this section is angular and has vertices situated on a circle having at least one diameter equal to the base circle of the head IG. Thus, FIG. 5 relates to a variant in which the part 17 has a transverse section, in the form of an equilateral triangle,
while fig. 6 relates to a variant in which the part 17 has a quadrangular cross section with a concave curvilinear side.
We could also provide other means than the projections 18 and 19 for driving the part 17 by the wheel 7. In a variant, the opposite faces of the wheel 7 of the part 1.7 could be flat, the one of these faces having a lug engaged in a semi-circular slot on the other face. which would allow a small relative rotational movement between wheel 7 and part 17.
