Device for unwinding a very long object wound on a reel. The present invention relates to a device for unwinding an object of great length, in particular a wire or a strip. It is generally advantageous to avoid interrupting the operation of such a device. This is particularly the case for a device supplying wires to a machine in which these wires undergo certain transformations such as cabling or stranding, in the case of metal wires for example, or for a device placed on a vehicle and unwinding. one or more wires on the ground, from a fixed point.
The length of the object intended to be unrolled in one piece is obviously limited; it is called a "reserve". The object of the device according to the invention is to substitute one reserve for the next, by allowing these two reserves to be joined together and this without stopping or even slowing down the unwinding operation.
A process is known which makes it possible to achieve such a result in the case of unwinding a yarn. This process, referred to as "scrolling" unwinding, is represented by FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawing. The wire, wound in a crown 1, is placed on a support 2 which has a cylindrical or conical part 3. By pulling the wire upwards, it unwinds.
An improvement to this process, making it possible to apply it to son wound on spools, is represented by FIG. 2. Coil 4 is laid flat; a movable arm 5, rotating freely around the XY axis, with which it has a point 0, carries a guide eye 6. The wire, assumed to be pulled vertically through a guide eye 7, unwinds from the. coil passing through guide 6 and rotating the movable arm.
Such an unwinding method leaves the free end of the wire im movable and therefore allows the joining of a reserve which is about to run out, with a new reserve. However, it has the drawback of giving the wire a twist on itself, a twist which is particularly harmful when the wire is composed of several strands assembled together, especially if these strands comprise metals with a high modulus of elasticity.
In the unwinding process called "unwinding" and which is represented by FIG. 3, the thread is placed on a spool. As this rotates around its axis, the wire rolls freely in a direction perpendicular to this axis. The disadvantage of twisting the wire does not exist here, but on the other hand, the free end of the wire is not accessible during the unwinding, because it is driven by a rotational movement. Consequently, if we do not stop the unwinding, we cannot realize the junction of the reserve about to be exhausted with a new reserve.
The device according to the invention combines the advantages of the two unwinding modes. This device makes it possible to connect the free end of an object wound on a spool to the free end of a similar object wound on another spool twinned with the first, without interrupting operation, by the fact that it comprises members which can. unwinding the object "by scrolling", organs which can unroll the object "by scrolling" and organs which allow the substitution of one of these two unwinding modes for the other.
Such a device makes it possible to ensure the unwinding of the reserve "unrolled" during the greater part of this unwinding and then "unrolled" for a relatively short length of the reserve, which makes it possible to establish a junction between the end of said reserve and the start of a new reserve coupled with the first, without any interruption of operation.
Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7 show, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention, intended to be applied to the unwinding of a metal wire.
A bearing 8 allows a vertical rod 9 to rotate freely around a vertical axis OZ. This rod supports a pulley 11 at the end of an arm 12 and a pulley 13 at its end. The assembly produces an unwinding device similar to that shown in FIG. 2. A wheel 14, comprising a crenellated toothing; is integral with the rod 9. A sleeve 15, to which a crenellated wheel 16, identical to the wheel 14, is attached, can rotate freely around the rod 9: Said wheel 16 comprises a catch 17 which engages in one of the coil cheeks 18.
In fig. 5 and 6 is shown a red worm 19 which, by sliding longitudinally; can block and make fixed in space, either the wheel 14 or the wheel 16.
It is easy to see that when the wheel 16 is blocked, the coil 18 is kept fixed in space by the effect of the knock 17. On the other hand, the wheel 14 is free; the rod 9 can turn freely under the action of the wire and the latter unwinds "by scrolling" under the same conditions as with the device which is represented in FIG. 2: When the wheel 14 is blocked, the arm 12 is kept fixed in space; on the other hand, the coil 18 can turn and the unwinding of the wire takes place by means of the pulleys 13 and 11 under the same conditions as with the device of fi g. 3.
In order to allow the assembly and disassembly of the coil 18, the axis 9 is established so that it can move longitudinally relative to the wheel 14; it suffices then to pull this pin upwards to release it completely and make the spool free.
In the practical embodiment of the device, it is obviously necessary to simultaneously use two conjugate devices A and B, as shown in FIG. 7: In A, a coil is unwinding "unwinding". The wire follows the path of the pulleys 11A, 13A, 21A and 22. In B, a reel is placed fully lined with wire and in the corresponding device of which the wheel 14 is blocked. The end of the wire of this spool is passed over the pulleys 11B, 13B and 21B.
These pulleys, like those of device A, have an open yoke; this allows the wire to be passed over the pulleys or to be withdrawn without a free end being necessary for this.
When the moment has come to make the junction of the wires of the two spools, the spool A is unwound "by scrolling", the change of unwinding process being obtained by the operation of the latch 19 (see fig. 5). . The free end 20 of the coil A then becomes stationary, which allows the junction to be effected at this point. When there is no more thread left on the spool A, the thread is released from the pulleys 11A, 13A and 21A by operating by hand. From this moment, the thread unwinds from reel B just as it initially unwound from reel A and the same cycle can be repeated indefinitely without the fed machine having to undergo any stop.
The devices established according to the operating principles set out above apply not only to the case where the unwound wire is animated by movement while the coils occupy a fixed position in space, but naturally also in the opposite case where the unwound wire remains fixed, while the spools are movable, placed on a vehicle, for example.
The device forming the subject of the invention can be used for unwinding all objects of great length, such as: wires, bands and others, which can be wound up on spools and can be added to any apparatus enabling these to be unwound. objects and for which it is in the interest of avoiding interruption of operation as much as possible.
