(fig.
Comme on peut le constater, les rouleaux de pression et d'extension 26 présentent une série tic lames hélicoïdales 171, disposées en quelque sorte à la façon des dents d'une roue à chevrons;

Before giving a detailed description of the mechanism contributing to the overall work involved, we believe we are doing the right thing, with particular reference to figs. 1 and 2, to explain in a general manner the machine and the method followed by preference -in its arrangement and in its operation; so we will have a clearer picture.
In the arrangement shown, an or. vrier A. places a corry board on the first table 20 and cuts a hide on one. After which, as we will say a little later, the plate with the skin that it carries is lifted ei, transported from the table 20 to the table 21 of the first turning unit B, where the skin is automatically shaped before d 'be led to table 22. There, workers C and D quickly iron such parts of the ends which need to be and turn the tray, on the back of which (now the right side) one of the workers places a other skin.
In turn, this tray is directed to the table 23 of the second brushing unit E, where the skin is automatically shaped before being brought to the table 24, from which it is removed in a suitable manner, for example. , a worker I 'after having ironed such parts of the ends which need. being.
The automatic movements of the reversible units are regulated so that they are accomplished at the same time as the feeding of the skins takes place, the workers working in rhythm with them; thus, increased production is obtained with reduced labor costs, of course. that we have the latitude to replace workers d. and F by a suitable automatic mechanism.
Turnback units B and E are virtually identical, with the main command attacking the first unit B, which in turn drives the second unit r, so a detailed description of unit B will apply to one and the other.
This is how each unit works: The platter on which the skin is laid down is led to table 21 or to table 23, which, as they go up, lift it until the skin is pinched between their top and the fixing bar 25, placed on one side of one of the directions of the skin. The rotating pressure and extension roller 26 at this point grasps the sheet and, advancing, to. from its middle section, along one of its senses, shapes this half. This done, the table is lowered and, after having turned end to end, i.e. 180, rises again to take up the fixing position, the bar 25 now resting on the other side of the middle. same sense of the skin.
As above, the rotating pressure and extension roller 26 grasps the skin and advancing from its middle section along the direction under consideration shapes the other half. After that the table lowers and, after turning a quarter turn forward, rises until the skin is pinched between it and the fixing bar 25, which now rests on one side of the table. opposite direction of the skin. As before, the rotating pressure and extension roller 26 grasps the sheet and, advancing from its middle section along the direction in question, shapes that half.
When the operation is completed, the table is lowered and, after having turned back half a turn, rises to resume the fixing position; it is then the other half - of the same direction as above of the skin which is shaped. When this last operation is completed, the table is lowered and, after having turned a quarter of a turn back,. Is ready to receive another skin. We realize that, in this way, the skin is turned back by the roller 26 in one direction and in the other direction.
Thus, this roller will prepare, to begin with, each half of the skin by advancing,. In the direction of the, width, over the entire length of the sheet, then do the same for each half of the skin while advancing, in the direction of the,. lengthwise across the width of the leaf. These operations have the effect of softening the skin, which is worked on the plate in the wet state; usually an adherent mixture is used, interposed between the sheet and the tray, which is applied in a suitable manner, generally by immersing the skin in said mixture before cutting it on the tray .
By this process, the entire surface of the skin is practically turned back; However, it can sometimes happen that parts of the sidewalls need to be ironed. This job is; performed briskly by one of the C or D vriers using a daisy. As we have already said, after that we turn the plate over, cut off another skin on its reverse side (which has become the right side) and let the next unit B play, which shapes the latter: whereupon the sheet arrives at the end. 'Or vrier F, which iron the parts of the sidewalls which may need to be before removing it -de the machine.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 3, we see that each of the units B and E com takes a frame 2 7 with 28 rules. The pressure and extension roller 26 has, on both sides, the journals 29, which each rest on pads worn by the back and forth movement cha riot 30, the sides of which are extended by the arms 31 and 31 'and the heads are joined by the tie rods 32. Each arm 31 and 31' ends with the, grooved bodies 33, sliding on the rulers 28.
On the arm 31 are mounted the pulleys 34 and 35, in line with the pulley 36, cantilevered by the journal 29, and, on the opposite ends of the frame 27, the pulleys 37 and 38; .as shown in fig. 1, 2, 5, 7 and 17, a court roie 39 runs on these various pulleys. Thanks to this stopping, the roller 26 receives a continuous rotational movement when the carriage 30 performs its reciprocating movement. An electric motor 40, placed under the table 22, drives the pulley 42 through the end 41 of its shaft, due to the belt 43 joining the pulley 38 of the second unit E.
This axis 45 also carries the pulley 46, connected by the belt 47 to the pulley 48, itself wedged on the axis 49 together with the pulley 38 of the first unit B.
The lower ends of the arms 31 and 31 'each have racks 50 in engagement with the pinions 51, fixed, on either side, on the shaft 52, the bearings of which rest on the frame 27. The end 53 of the The motor shaft 40 is, via a suitable speed reducer 54, joined to the shaft 55 (Figs. 1 to 4). On the latter is wedged a bevel wheel 56, continuously in engagement with the bevel wheels 5 7. And 58, idle on the sleeve 59, which can slide on the shaft 52 while being fixed on it by the key 60. This sleeve 59 carries a, notched plate 61.
the recesses and projections of which can penetrate into the projections and the conjugate recesses of the bevel gears 57 and 58. By moving the sleeve 59, so as to engage the plate 67, and the bevel gear 57, </ B > the shaft 52 is rotated which, by means of the meshes 50, drives the carriage 30 in one direction, while the reverse operation is caused by moving the sleeve 59, so as to engage the plate 61 and the conical wheel 58. The notched plate 61 has an annular groove, in which the.
fork 62, attached to a sleeve 63, able to slide on the fixed shaft 64 (fig. 4 and 5). An ear of the sleeve 63 carries the button 65 moving -clans an oblique groove 66, hollowed out -an extension 66 'of the rack rod 67, guided by the sleeve 68 and attacked by one of the cams 70 that carries the tree 71.
This receives, always in the same direction, a continuous rotational movement of the right toothed wheel 72, wedged on ] (- hub of the bevel wheel 57 and driving the right toothed wheel 73. By its in termittent movement, the cam 70 moves the cre-mesh rod 67 at the end of each half-cycle of the machine and, for its part, this ratchet rod, via the oblique groove 66, button 65 and fork 62 similarly drive table 61, the consequence being that roller 26 of unit B reciprocates relative to table 21.
The shaft 52 of the first machine carries a bevel gear 74, in engagement with the bevel gear 75, wedged on the shaft 76, which a similar bevel gear harness connects to the shaft 524e. unit E, so that the roll-holder carriage of this unit moves in perfect harmony with the roll-holder carriage of unit B.
Considering fig. 6, we note that the table 21 comprises a sleeve 77, capable of sliding and turning in the collar 78, which the foot 79 supports. A hollow shaft 80 is embraced by sleeve 77 and ends, at its upper part, by a collar 81, rising and falling with the table in question. In addition, it can slide on a column 82 and has an annular flange 83, surmounted by a part 84, which internally follows the outline and which tightens a threaded cap 85, itself capable of being, afterwards. adjustment, immobilized by the clamping screw.
A spring 87, the tension of which can be varied by acting on the part 84 and the cha skin 85, .is interposed. Between this .dernier and the annular flange 83 and provides the table with an elastic movement. All the .dispositif that we have just described can turn around the column 82 and on the ball bearing 88, supported by the threaded cap 89, which stirs said column 82 and is supported by the threaded sleeve 90, itself likely, after adjustment, to be immobilized by the clamping screw 91. It suffices to adjust the cap 89 and the sleeve 90 with respect to each other to determine the position of the table relative to the roller 26. The sleeve 90 is extended by a tubular shoulder 90 ', resting on the yoke 92.
Looking at figs. 5 and 8, we note that the branches of the yoke 92 come out, through openings, from the foot 79 and carry the gaets 92 ', which are mounted in vertical guide slots 93' hollowed out in this foot. The axes of the rollers in question are each joined to the levers 94, the ends 95 of which are articulated, on either side, to the arms 96, which are an integral part of the toothed sectors 97, capable of oscillating around the axes 98 and each engaged with the teeth of the rack rods 67., As we have already mentioned when speaking of one of them, each rod 67 carries a roller 69, which attacks the cam 70, wedged on the shaft 71 and having the effect of raising or lowering the table 21 in turn at the rate of the reciprocating movement of the carriage 30.
In this way, when the roller 26 advances or moves towards the left of FIG. 5, the table 21 descends and, conversely, it rises again when the roller 26 recedes or moves to the right of the same figure. By lifting the corroi plate 99, the skin 100 is pinched, down on it, between the table and the fixing bar 25, which slides in the guide frame 101 and, at each end, is pressed. on the work sheet by the return springs 102. The table of the second unit is raised and lowered at the same time as the first unit B does, its rack rods 67 being dragged from the cam 70 , by the rods 103, which grip said rods and are cut in 104, so that they allow the shaft 71 to pass.
Preferably, the tables are each partially balanced by the counterweights 105, which the cables 106, running on the pulleys 107, connect on either side to one of the branches of the yoke 9? (fig. 5 and 8).
Looking at figs. 4, 6 and 8, we observe that the mechanism intended to rotate the table comprises a grooved cam 108, which engages a roller 109, carried by the lever 110 substantially at an equal distance from its ends, one of which oscillates around of the pivot 111 and the other is connected, on the one hand, by the burette 112 to the rack rod 113 of the first unit B and, on the other hand, by the bar 114 to the rack rod, identical to the previous, of the second unit E.
Each rack rod 113 is guided by the sleeve 115, forming an integral part of the foot 79; and engaged with the long toothed wheel 116, forming an integral part of the sleeve 77 -the table.
Referring to Figs. 3 and 4, we see that the cam 108 is keyed on a hollow shaft 117, loose on the shaft 71. This one carries the internal toothed wheel 118, by stirring the parasitic pinion 119, which, mounted on an axis supported by the upright 120, attacks the toothed wheel 121, wedged on the shaft 117; this crew achieves a ratio of 4: 1 between shafts 71 and 117. As for the four rotational movements of which we have spoken, they are produced by a single revolution of cam 108.
By referring to. fig. 6, we see that the cam 108, turning in the direction of the movement of the needles of a watch and going from the position shown to that where the projection 122 attacks the roller 109, determines the rack rod < B> 113 to make describe at the table an arc of 180. After which, it is the projection 123 which. attacks the roller 109, thereby causing the rack rod to make the table arc 90 degrees. In its turn, the projection 124 attacks the ga let 109, so that the cog rod is recalled - and makes describe back to the table an arc of 180.
Finally, the projection 125 attacks the roller 109, so that the cogwheel trin gle, continuing its retrograde movement, causes it to describe backwards to the. table a 90 'arc and bring it back to its original position. These various rotational movements occur when the table is lowered, the rests of it. cam preventing it from turning each time it is raised. In this way, the pressure and spreading roller 26 passes four times over the skin, while the cam 108 completes a single revolution and acts, as we have said., So as to turn the felled sheet back onto the skin. the plateau de corroi.
We are now going to describe the mechanism gradually passing through the machine the plate and the skins fell on it. Considering fig. 1, we notice that each table has two pairs of grooves 130, -disposed in the direction of the diagonals, and has on its two sides a frame 131. On the side faces of the machine, all these frames are joined to each other by the rods 132 and, at the top and at the tail, by the spacers 133; the whole forms a carrier group.
Looking at figs. 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 16, we note that a strip 134 advances internally from one and the other end of each frame and can be placed below, in or above the groove corresponding 130. The rods 132 carry. at. at regular intervals, the rollers 135, rolling on the horizontal parts of the tracks 136. which run the length of the machine, and, also moving at regular intervals, the rollers.
137, which, running on the vertical parts of the same tracks 136, have. for the purpose of preventing any lateral thrust. The bearing group considered .. receives, intermittently, a back and forth movement when the sliders 1.34 are above or below the tables depending on the position of a grooved cam 138.
which is wedged on the shaft 117 and acts on the ga let 139, attached to the rod 140; the latter slides in the sleeve 141 and has an ear, terminated by a rack 142. in engagement with the toothed sector 143, oscillating in turn of the axis 144, which carries the lever 145. joined by the arm 146 to the roller 147 which, in order to prevent any lateral thrust, rolls on a fixed rail 148 and attacks a vertical slot 149 formed in the support 150, itself secured to the front end dt: carrier group. The sliders 134 rise and. decrease intermittently in accordance with the ascent and descent of the tracks 136.
Along the machine and on either side of it are mounted from place to place the supports 151, each supporting the axis of oscillation of the elbow levers 152. One arm of these carries the roller 153 , rolling on the lower part -of the track, while the other arm is connected to the rod 154, extending lengthwise -of the. machine and on both sides. of her.
This rod is connected by the angled lever 155 to the shaft 156, which carries the lever arm 157, joined, by the trin gle 158, to the lever 159, itself oscillating around the axis 160, on which the roller 161 is fixed, which moves the cam the ,, fixed on the shaft 117 (fig. 4 and. 6).
As regards the rollers 69, the unbalanced weight of each turn-back table acts, through the mechanism therein soeié, so as to press them on the cams 70 and, as regards the cam 162 , the weight of the tracks and the combined carrier units there tend to keep the roller 161 in contact with it.
The supports of the tables 21, 22 and 24 include, as shown in fig. 10 and 13, a central cast iron piece 163, which is, in each case, fixed on the trellis at 1164 extending inward and. bolting, to. their ends, on the supports 165 and 166, each carried by the main frame of the machine. It is above these beams that the strips 134 are placed and that lie (fig. 16).
Supports 167, suitably distributed along the machine (fig. 10, 15 'and 18), serve to guide the tracks 136 in these up and down movements. Each of them has a vertical slot 168, which the roller 169 attacked, carried by a plate 170, itself fixed on the track 136.
The feed mechanism that we have just described has the effect that, when the tracks 136 are raised by the cam 162, the strips 134 - of each unit of the carrier group are raised, passing through the grooves dug in the table of the unit to which they belong, and lift the roll-back tray previously placed on this table.
The cam 138, through the mechanism of which we have spoken, turns the shaft 144 and oscillates the lever 145, and, through the intermediary of the arm 146, directs the carrier group on. the exit of the machine until the strips 134, initially associated with, the table 20, enter the grooves of the neighboring table 21 and that the other strips of each unit engage correspondingly in the grooves of the tables - of each subsequent unit.
At this moment, the tracks 186 are lowered and the strips 134 descend, passing through the grooves 130 of the table, the consequence being that they deposit the trays to be turned back in their new position and that, once lying down, they return to their standby position and are ready to restart their cycle of operations. Thus the feed mechanism advances by degrees, from one table to another, the tray to be turned back with the skin it carries until it is lifted from table 24 by the last unit of the carrier group.
The slats 134 stand up, passing through the grooves of the tables, when the tables 21 and 23 are lowered after that. the pressure and extension rollers 26 have completed their work; in this regard, it is important to note that the lifting of the tables, in the operating position with respect to the pressure and extension rollers 26, is greater than that of the strips 134 ,. so that the play between the rollers 26 and the turn-back plates placed on the carrier group allows the latter to move. As soon as the table drops lower than the level of the raised sliders, the carrying group moves forward or towards.
right, as shown in fig. 1; the table then describes the last are ide 90 which takes it to its original position. Then, at the instant when the tables 21 and 23 are raised, the sliders 134 are lowered, so that the plates to be turned up with the skins which they carry are in position on said tables at the moment when the pressure and spreading rollers 26 start. move to the right. Note that the feed mechanism performs this operation when the rollers 26 point towards 1a. left in their empty course.
As can be seen, the pressure and extension rollers 26 have a series of tic helical blades 171, arranged in a manner like the teeth of a chevron wheel;
when these blades are rotating. counterclockwise - and carriage 30 moves to the right; the skin, seized by the laymps in question, is progressively rejected, both forward and on the side of the roller, over its entire stretch, which may, depending on the position of the table; be either. its width, that is, its length.
When the machine in question is operated, worker A places a tray on table 20 and knocks down a wet skin on it, while unit B pushes back a first sheet. Whereupon, the carrier group drives the board with the skin it wears to unit B, while the first sheet this comes. shaping is led by the carrier group on table 22.
While unit B turns the second skin back, Worker A places a third plate and a third skin in the fitted position -ei; workers C and D iron with daisy such parts of the first skin that need to be so then, turning over the first plate, fold over the back (which has become the right) a fourth skin. So while the third tray with the third skin it is wearing goes to unit B, the second tray with the second skin it is carrying goes to table 22 and the first tray with the first skin underneath and the fourth skin of the tops on unit E.
This accomplished, unit B turns back the third skin on the third plate, while unit E does the same for the fourth skin on the first plate, as worker A prepares the fourth plate with the fifth skin. and that the workers C and D go back to the margue rite the second skin on the second plateau.
In the next phase, the first plate with the first skin underneath and the fourth skin above it arrives at table 24, where worker F, after having ironed the fourth skin with a daisy, removes all of the machine, while worker A prepares a fifth plate with the sixth skin and that workers C, and D daisy-chain the third skin on the third plate. In this way, five trays loaded with skins pass simultaneously. at each cycle. by: a machine.
