Calculator. This invention relates to a motor-driven calculating machine. This machine comprises a wheel-digit recorder, a rotary drive for controlling these wheels and a device for correcting a 4th digit recording too high in the subtractive actuator recorder, which device is standard. out of action and is- arranged to be put into action in the division problems, a manually controlled member being provided for this purpose, which, when operated,
determines the operation of the machine in the subtraction direction and makes the excess digit correcting device operable.
Preferably, the machine comprises a series of keys for entering values into the driver, the lowering of a key introducing into the rotary driver a value corresponding to the digits of the key, and the rotation of the key. trainer having the effect of transferring the values entered to the counter or recorder in order to carry out the calculation operation. The values entered in the trainer are transmitted.
when this drive turns in either direction, to the digit discs of the counter mechanism which, with the aim of making possible the direct action of the values chosen on the digit disc of the order of largest size, is advantageously arranged so as to be able to be moved parallel to the axis of the trainer, being mounted on a carriage capable of being moved, transversely to the machine, relative to the trainer.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example only, one embodiment of the machine according to the invention.

The machine shown is provided with positive and negative operating keys, the lowering of the positive key having the effect of rotating the driver in the direction of the addition, or serves as "additive", and the lowering of the key. negative, causing the trainer to turn in the direction of subtraction, or "subtraction". The positive key is mainly used in performing addition and multiplication problems, and the negative key is mainly used in performing subtraction problems.
The machine is provided with another operating button or lever which, when it is maneuvered, places the mechanism used to produce a rotation under traction of the driver, carries out the positioning. of the stop mechanism of the trainer, following the recording of a too high number in the recorder, and triggers the rotation of the trainer.
The operating key or lever of the division is associated with a device which is only able to operate when said key or lever is maneuvered and whose role is to automatically reverse the direction of rotation of the trainer when a too high number is registered on the wheels @ to: digits and to stop the trainer at the. end of the first eyele of this reverse motion so that the quotient recorder shows the exact quotient figure.
The present machine comprises a suitable frame in which the various key devices of the calculating machine are mounted. Many of these devices, including the particular construction of the trainer, the connections between the number keys and the trainer, the automatic multiplication mechanism and other features of the machine are described in detail in. Swiss Patent No. 113767 of January 9, 1925, to which reference is made for a complete description of the characteristics of this machine.
The calculating machine includes a reversible rota = tif trainer 2? composed of a series of units in which the values are entered by depressing the keys. Each unit is also provided with tens transfer pins for transferring values to the digit wheels of the next higher order counter mechanism. Each unit. Is provided with two tens carry pins, and the two sets of pins of the trainer are arranged according to propellers: divergent.
One set of pins carry over the tens during a forward or additive rotation of the trainer, and the other carry out the tens carry over during a reverse or subtractive rotation of the trainer. The values introduced into the trainer by lowering the plates are transferred when the trainer turns: in one direction or the other, to the 3-digit keys of the counter mechanism, called the product recorder, by the through .intermediate wheels 4.
The whole of the product recorder and the intermediate gears and transfer levers relating thereto is mounted on a carriage 5 which: is movable transversely and which is guided by: guides: suitable for the frame, this carriage can be moved to ensure cooperation between any desired number wheel and any desired unit of the driver, within the limits of the movement of the carriage.
With each of the wheels 3 and associated with a transfer lever 6 which is actuated during the movement of the digit wheel either from the zero position towards the rear, or from the position 9 in the opposite direction, this movement being called,; transfer -de transition ". This movement of the transfer lever 6 is provided by an associated toothed member 7 fixed to the number wheel.
The trainer receives its command from a motor 8 via a clutch making it possible to couple the motor with the trainer or to disconnect it from it and from a reversing mechanism making it possible to reverse the coach's direction of rotation.
The clutch, shown in fig. 6, comprises a control shaft 9 suitably connected to the shaft: of the motor 8 by a speed reducing gear, as shown in FIG. 1, this shaft 9 being provided with a ratchet wheel 1-2 which rotates continuously with the motor.
As shown in Swiss Patent No. 138351 of February 6, 1929, the motor is provided with a switch which is only closed while the machine is operating to perform a cal cul culprit. The drive-shaft 9 supports a clutch housing 13 enveloping the ratchet wheel 12 and inside: which pivots a pawl 14 which is arranged to be brought into engagement with the ratchet wheel 12 or to be therefrom. disengaged in order to couple the pinion to the housing or to disconnect it. The ratchet. 14 is biased towards the pinion 12 by a spring 15.
The housing 13 has at its periphery an opening 16 through which a projection or foot 17 provided at the end of the pawl 14 passes when the pawl is in engagement with the pinion. The release of the pawl from the pinion is effected by a movement of the foot 17 inwards, which movement is effected by means of a clutch control lever 18, which is itself provided , at one of its ends, a foot 19 intended to come into contact with the foot 17.
To this end, when the lever 18 is unlocked, it is brought into contact with the periphery of the housing 13 by a spring 21 and, when the housing rotates, the foot 19 comes into contact. with the foot 17 and enters the opening 16, thus disengaging the clutch and locking the housing.
The clutch housing occupies such a position, with respect to a trainer, that when said housing is rusty, the driver is itself locked in the full cycle position.
To: clutch housing 13 is fixed a small cantilevered hollow shaft 23 forming part of the reverse gear. On this tree are mounted two toothed wheels 24 and 25 of which. each can be coupled directly with said shaft to rotate with it. Each of these wheels has at its internal periphery a discontinuous or indented rim 26, the two rims being in contact. The shaft: hollow 23 (fig. 11) has an opening passing through it diametrically and in this opening is disposed a transverse pin 27 which rests in the notch -of one or the other of the flanges 26.
The diameter of the stud 27 is smaller than the width of the flange, so that it can be placed entirely within. inside each edge. This stud is movable transversely along the axis of the shaft 23, so that it can engage with one or the other of the toothed wheels 24 or 25. For this purpose, it is fixed to a rod 28 which protrudes outside the end of the hollow shaft 23 and whose other end is suitably supported in the frame of the machine.
The notch in the flanges 26 is a little larger than the diameter of the stud 27 to allow this stud to be moved, in order to reverse the direction of rotation of the driver, without stopping the motor . With the toothed wheel 24 engages an idler toothed wheel 31 which in turn meshes with a toothed wheel 32 directly engaged with the wheel 25. Therefore, the wheel 32 rotates in one direction when the wheel 24 is coupled with the shaft. hollow 23, and in the opposite direction when the wheel 25 is coupled with this shaft.
To the shaft of the wheel 32 is fixed a toothed wheel 33 -placed on the other side of a partition 34, this wheel itself being connected by an intermediate wheel 35 to a wheel 36 carried by the shaft ide :the coach. Consequently, the movement of stud 27 reverses the direction of rotation of the driver.
A device makes it possible either manually or automatically to move the pin 27 to reverse the direction of rotation of the driver. To the sliding rod 28 is: fixed a collar 38 which is enclosed within a housing 39 enclosing, on the other hand, a compression spring 41 which is interposed between the end of the housing. and the collar 38 (Fig. 11) and hand holds the base firmly pressed against the collar, so that the movement of the collar.
to the right moves the rod 28, but this rod can move to the right without moving the spring housing. In fig. 11, stud 27 is shown in engagement with wheel 24, which produces reverse or subtractive control of the driver. The movement of the stud 27 to the right and the resulting coupling of this stud with the wheel 25 produces the forward rotation of the driver.
In a circular groove of the spring housing 39 is engaged a fork 42 -which is secured at its other end to a sliding rod 43 (Fig. 1), suitably supported in the frame of the machine and extending at the end. of a hollow shaft carrying a transmission wheel 44. By the movement of this translating rod 43, which is manually controlled, the pin 27 can be moved to produce a forward drive command. or backwards.
The direction of rotation of the driver can be reversed manually by the control of the fork 42 and is automatically reversed by the movement of the rod 28. These two ways of effecting the change of direction of rotation of the trainer will be explained in more detail below.
Manual control of the reverse gear is effected by lowering and releasing a negative operating key 51 which is preferably mounted on the keyboard of the machine. In the machine is pivotally mounted an angled lever 52 (fig.
6) which is biased by a spring 53 towards a normal position. When it occupies this position, the reversing mechanism occupies a position suitable for allowing forward or additive rotation of the coach. One of the arms of the elbow lever 52 -is located below a pin 54 fixed to the rod of the negative key 51, so that when this key is lowered, the lever 52 moves in antagonism to the action of the key. spring 53.
The lever 52 -is connected by a link 55 to a lever 56 provided with a cam in the form of a sector 57 (fig. 4) which is engaged in a slot 58 (fig. 1) of the end. projecting from the rod 43. The lowering of the key 51 consequently has the effect of moving the rod 28 to cause the reverse rotation of the dragger. The operation which has just been described takes place when the machine is used in the subtraction problems. A device allows the machine to be adjusted for performing division problems.
This device is associated with the connecting rod 55, -de_-so that when the device used to adjust the machine for the division -is actuated, the connecting rod 55 is moved and slides the rod 43 to cause the rotation. reverse of the coach. A later description of the mechanism provided for this.
The machine is. furthermore provided with a positive actuation key 61 the lowering of which causes the additive rotation of the driver. The connection between: the engine and the trainer is governed by the clutch, the action of which is governed by the lever 18, the latter being normally maintained in the disengaged position by the spring 21. A device is provided. whereby the lowering of one or the other of the keys 51, 61 oscillates the lever 18, @de so as to disengage it from the clutch housing 13 to allow the clutch.
In the machine c is mounted in a pivoting manner an elbow lever 62 (fig. 7) which is located below a roller 64 carried by the rod of the negative button 51, this lever being provided with a substantially vertical arm 65 located there, the rear -of a roller 66 carried by the support frame 67 of the positive key 61. The frame 67 is mounted on levers 68, so that the lowering of the positive key 61 pushes the roller 66 towards the rear against the vertical arm 65 of the elbow lever 62, which causes this lever to oscillate.
In fig. 7, this lever is shown in the position to which it was brought by the lowering of any one of the keys 51 or 61, although these keys are both shown in their raised position in this figure. On the arm 65 of the lever 62 pivots a bar 71 connected, in the present construction, to the clutch control lever 18, this bar having at its rear end a notch 72 receiving a pin 73 provided at the front end of the clutch control lever 18.
Consequently, the movement of the bar 71 towards il'arrière causes the lever 18 to blink around its pivot axis in order to disengage this lever from the clutch housing. When the clutch is thus engaged by the lowering of any one of the buttons 51, 61, abandoning the lowered button causes the clutch lever 18 to come into contact with the housing. clutch. Another device is provided to control: the movement of the clutch lever 18 when they. machine is used to solve division problems. as will be described later.
The calculating machine is also provided with a recorder or counter mechanism serving to directly indicate the correct multiplier or quotient, this mechanism being usually called a "multiplier de recorder or quotient". This recorder comprises a series of numeral slugs 75 (fig. 4) each provided with an intermediate gear 76 and a transfer lever 77.
A device is provided to produce on each rotation of the trainer in either direction a single movement of a selected number wheel, and a positive tens transfer device is provided so that the recorder constantly indicates the correct number. The number wheels 75 are operated in synchronism with the rotation of the driver by a drive finger or single toothed wheel 7 8, the hub of which is tongue-and-groove mounted on a shaft 79 rotating in synchronism with the driver. neur.
The device for carrying tens of the. particular construction shown com takes a drum 81 carrying two series of tens transfer pins 82, 83 which are arranged in diver gentes propellers, .de so that they are actuated: n the opposite direction when the drum rotates in the opposite direction. The drum is fixed to a shaft 84 supported by the frame of the machine, - t the tens transfer pins 82, 83 cooperate with the transfer levers 7 7 to transfer values to the number wheels of the next higher order.
A device makes it possible to reverse the direction of rotation of the finger, drive or auxiliary driver 78 and of the drum 81, with respect to the rotation of the driver. The drum 81 is provided with a reversing gear such as that described in the patent. Swiss n 113767 above and includes a sliding rod 85 which presents to. its end a slot in which is engaged the angled or offset end 86 of a lever 87 which projects through an opening in the casing of the machine, so that the direction of drum rotation by maneuvering the lever 87.
In performing division problems, it is essential that the tens carry drum 81 rotates in the desired direction to indicate the increasing values on recorder 75, while the main trainer, consisting of the trainer units 2, must. turn in the opposite direction, or under traction. A device is therefore provided to allow the tens transfer drum and the driving finger 78 to rotate either in the same direction as the driver 2, or in the opposite direction, depending on the position of the lever 87. The driving finger 78 can be moved along the shaft 79 to cooperate with the. digit wheel 75 of the desired numerical order.
The mechanism provided for laterally moving the finger 78 in sync with the movement of the carriage 5, but in the opposite direction to this movement, is shown in detail in the aforementioned patents.
The machine is provided with a device which, when activated, starts the operation of the machine for the execution of division problems. Before activating this device, the lever 87 is placed in the "split" position. The operation of this device has the effect of actuating the reversing gear to produce a subtractive rotation of the trainer. 2,. Engage clutch 12--11 and put the corrective mechanism into operation. On the side of the. The machine is provided with a lever 91 provided with a key 92 which, when it is pulled forward, begins the division operation.
First, the mechanism for sliding rod 28 to produce the subtractive rotation of the driver will be described. On the lower end of the lever 91 pivots a bar 94 which is normally held in its anterior position by a spring 95. At its rear end, the bar 94 is fitted with a lateral pin 96 located (fi-. 1. ) at the front of a vertical part 97 of the rod 55.
Therefore, when the key 92 is moved forward, the pin 96 moves rearward, moves the link 55 rearward and thereby moves the cam 57 to slide the rod 113, and, therefore, the rod 28.
Forward movement of key 92 also oscillates clutch control lever 18 to unlock clutch housing 18 and engage. In the present construction, this mechanism is associated with the starting mechanism which is actuated by the key lowering one of the automatic multiplier keys 98. To these keys 98 is associated a bar 99 (fig. 5) which is mounted. on connecting rods 102, 108 and which is arranged below pins 1 (1-1, one of these pins projecting laterally on the.
rod of each of the keys 98, the assembly of the bar 99 being such that when one of the keys 98 is lowered, this bar moves downwards and backwards. On bar 99 east. mounted a roller 106 which is located immediately in front of a lever 107 attached to a shaft 108, the arrangement being such that the retro grade movement of the bar 99 rotates the shaft 108 counterclockwise. a watch.
The elbow lever 62 (Fig. 7) is also attached to the shaft 108, so that movement of the shaft 108 in a counterclockwise direction has the effect of swinging the lever 62 backwards. rear and, by means of the bar 71, to oscillate the: clutch control lever 18 in an anti-clockwise direction, thus unlocking the clutch housing and allowing the clutch to be engaged .
In the. present construction, the bar 99 carries at its rear end a transverse lip 112 which is located directly behind the pin 96 and substantially at right angles to the path described by this pin. Therefore, when the bar 94 is moved rearwardly, the pin 96, acting on the lip 112, causes it to move the bar 99 backwards, which has the effect of rotating the shaft 108. counterclockwise: clockwise and therefore to move the clutch control lever 18 to produce the clutch.
The movement of the bar 99 backwards also locks the adjustable element of the driver in its adjusted position. Each trainer unit comprises a selector unit which can be brought to a set position, usually by depressing a key on the keyboard.
Each selector unit is provided with a notched sector 113 with which a locking device engages when starting to operate the machine. This locking device includes a 114 'pawl voting in 115. There is a pawl 114 for each driver unit and all of the pawls are attached to the shaft 115. At this shaft is also fixed a lever 116 -which -is connected by a link 117 to a curved lever 118 pivoting at 119.
The link 102 carries a roller 121 which is in contact with the upper face of the lever 118. When the bar 99 receives rearward movement, the roller 121 moves backwards, oscillating the lever 118 towards the rear. 'rear and thereby bring the locking pawls 11.4 into engagement with the cut sectors 113, which locks the selector element in its adjusted position.
A device is provided for locking the lever 91 in its front position and for maintaining it in this position until the moment when it is unlocked, or by a manual operation, in the event that an error has been accidentally introduced - in the. machine, or automatically by the operation of the correction mechanism. The bar 94 (FIG. 2) has a notch 123 which, when the lever 91 is pulled forward, engages with a pawl 124 subjected to the pressure of a spring and pivoting at 125.
The pawl 124 is provided with a nose 126 which is disposed above one end of an elbow lever 127 pivoting about a screw 128. The lever 127 carries at its other end a shoe 129 which is located directly behind a pin 131 attached to a slide 182 (fig. 4) forming part of the automatic multiplier mechanism.
Lowering -the zero key (or erase key) 13.3 -of the row of automatic multiplier keys moves the slider 182 backwards, making the lever 127 wink. clockwise, to lift the pawl 124 and disengage it from the bar 94 thus allowing the lever 91 to be thrown forward under the action of its spring, which stops the machine .
This manual stop device is used to stop the machine when it is observed that an error has been introduced into the machine as a result of an operator error. The device determining the automatic unlocking of the lever 91 and the stopping of the machine by the operation of the correcting mechanism will be described below.
When machines of this kind are used for performing problems (splitting, the product recorder number wheels to the left of the trainer-driven action wheels change sign each time you use them. attempts to remove the divisor from the dividend an integer number of times as large as possible. In such a case, the digit wheel record changes from a positive value to a negative value, or from a negative value to a positive value, and this change or recording of too high a number had been used until now to activate a mechanism to stop the machine.
The vision is effected by a rotation under tractive. Of the trainer, and when there was a state of recording. -digit too high and the machine had been stopped, we lowered; the positive operating key to rotate the trainer in the direction of: addition during one revolution in order to correct the recording of the excess figure . This correction of the recording of a too high number by the command of the maneuver key introduced the suitable number in the product recorder and gave:
the appropriate indication in the quotient recorder. In the present construction, registering too high a number is used to effect the automatic change of direction of the rotation of the driver without stopping the machine, so that the last one receives a rotation towards the machine. before, or additive, and is then stopped at. -the end of the first cycle -of the forward rotation.
This device is, however, disabled when the machine is set to perform addition, multiplication and subtraction problems and is only put into action when the machine is rI: - set for the running @ division problems. Therefore, this automatic start and stop changing device does not work in the case of recording too high a digit during multiplication, and it would result, if this recording were not observed, the introduction of errors: in the calculation.
Pulling the control lever 91 forward also has the result of allowing the automatic device to reverse the direction of rotation of the driver in the event that a number is recorded too high and stop the trainer at the end of its first cycle of forward rotation.
Therefore, in carrying out division problems, the operator simply pulls lever 91 forward and this lever remains in its forward position, with the machine remaining in motion until such time as too high a number. was recorded then corrected by a rotation of the trainer towards Vavant. The lever 91 is then released and the 4th mechanism stopped.
The recording of a number that is too high is usually indicated by a change of sign of the number wheels from the order to the order: the highest between the limits of the trainer. This change of sign, in a division operation, is from zero to nine. When it occurs, the toothed element 7 (fig. 8) moves the transfer lever 6 back.
On an axis 135 (fig. - 8 and 10) pivots a lever 136 provided with an arm 137 arranged transversely behind and in contact with the rear face of the transfer lever 6 located to the left of the series which intervenes . The arm 137 is kept engaged with the transfer lever 6 by a spring 138, so that when this lever oscillates backwards at the time of recording too high a number or a transfer transfer, the lever 136 oscillates around its pivot.
At leviar 136 est. fixed an arm 139 which is movable laterally and which preferably has a slot 141 receiving a laterally movable member. This member -est brought to the desired position to put the correct mechanism .de correct functioning by a movement of the lever 91 forward.
In order to allow the arm 139. To engage with the start and stop change mechanism and to disengage from this mechanism, this arm is moved laterally by a bar 142, the upper end of which is disposed. in the slot 141. At its lower end, the bar 142 is fixed to a slider 143 movable transversely, and a device is provided for moving 0:
e slide transversely, so as to rotate the arm 139 to its working position during @du movement of the lever 91 forwards. The bar 94, which pivots on the lever 91, is provided with an ear or protrusion 145 which moves in a slot in the base key plate. The lug 145 cooperates with a bevelled or camming edge 146 of the slider 143, so that when the lever 91 wobbles, the slider 143 moves transversely.
This slider is normally hand held in its retracted position by a res out 147, connected to the bar, 1.12 -and whose role is to normally maintain the arm 139 in an inactive position and to maintain the ear 145 of the slider 143 in engagement with cam 146, so that movement of lever 91 forwards causes slider 143, and hence bar 142, to move in the desired direction to set arm 139 same key to operate .
We will now describe the .ser mechanism before correcting a figure that is too high. On axis 13.5 pivots (fig. 10) a lever 151 (fig. 8) on which pivots the substantially vertical rod 152 resting by its lower end against the arm of an angled lever 153 (fig. 1). This bent lever pivots on a support 154, and its vertical arm 155 is four chu and embraces a collar 156 fixed to the rod 28. The horizontal arm of the bent lever 153 is thus held high by the spring 41 associated with the rod 28. .
The lever 151 to which the angled lever is connected by a rod 152 is therefore normally maintained in its raised position.
A device is provided for rapidly lowering the lever 151 at the desired moment of operation of the machine, so as to slide the rod 28 to move the pin 27 and thus reverse the direction of rotation of the machine. the coach. In the upper end of the lever 151 is mounted a rod 158 which is subjected to the action of a spring and which is normally maintained in a protruding position.
This rod is located near. of a. cam 159 (fig. 8), fixed to the shaft of the trainer, and 'when it has been moved --inwardly, it is located on the eb emin - of this cam, which -the strikes just before the trainer reaches the full cycle position.
When this collision takes place, the lever 151 oscillates counterclockwise, which lowers the rod 152 and thus causes the rod 28 to move to the right (fig. 11), to actuate the reverse gear. . During the operation of the division, the trainer turns counterclockwise or counterclockwise and the cam 159 oc cup a position such that it acts so as to slide the rod 28, when -l ' The driver occupies its full cycle position, which allows stud 27 to disengage from gear 24 to engage gear 25 without stopping machine operation.
On the lever 151 pivots a lever 161 (fig. 11) which oscillates in a plane perpendicular to the plane of movement of the lever 151. The upper end of this lever 161 is engaged in a groove of the rod 158, and its lower end . is provided with a foot 162 located below the plane of the rear end of the arm 139.
When the machine was set up for addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems, the 139 arm rotated sideways, '- so that it was no longer located above the foot 162; but when the lever 91 is operated to enable the machine to perform division problems, the arm 139 comes to occupy the position of FIG. 11 in) which it covers the foot 162.
Therefore, when an excess digit registration or a transition delay occurs, the lever 136 bones, lowers the arm 139 and therefore does; oscillate lever 161 which projects rod 158 and brings it onto the path of cam 159. At the full cycle position, cam 159 hits rod 158, oscillates lever 151, and moves pin 27 of gear inverter to change the direction of rotation of the drive. This is done without disengaging the clutch.
A device is also provided for disengaging the clutch and stopping the trainer at the end of the first cycle of a reverse or additive rotation. Attached to the shaft 84 of the tens carry drum of the multiplier or quotient recorder is a disk 165 which, when the machine has been set to perform division problems, rotates clockwise. a clock, when the trainer turns in the subtractive direction, and in the anti-clockwise direction when the trainer turns in the ad ditive direction.
On the .disc 165 protrudes laterally lies a pin 166 which. when this disc turns anti-clockwise, a mechanism activates which stops the machine when the machine has been put into action by a traction exerted forwards. on lever 91.
The stop device of the machine com takes a slide 167 pivoting around an axis 168 and whose movement is -regulated by a spring 169 and a guide pin 172. This slide can oscillate or slide freely with respect to - the axis 168 in antagonism to the action of the spring 169. At its rear end, the slider 167 is provided with a bevelled foot 173 which, when the machine has been adjusted for division, is located on the way to pin 166.
However, the slider 167 is normally maintained in a position such that the foot 173 is moved away from the path of the pin 166, so that this slider can only operate when the. machine. been set for division. The lower end of the slider 167 is normally in contact with a re edge 174 formed at the end of a slider 175 pivoting on the lever 91. When the lever 91 occupies its rear position, the slider 175 and the rim 174 occupy their front position, the lower end of the slider 167 resting on the rim 174.
In this position, the slider 167 has voted around its axis, so that the foot 173 is located away from the path of the pin 166. It is therefore evident that the slider 167 will be held in its proper position. rest position as long as the lever 91 has not been pulled forward. When this lever is pulled forward, the slide 175 comes to occupy the position of FIG. 2 by allowing the slide 167 to move to bring the foot 173 back on the path of the pin 166.
As the disc 165 rotates clockwise, the pin 166 strikes it. bevelled surface of the foot 173 and rotates the slider 167 around its axis, this pivoting movement playing no role. As a result of registering an excess number, the direction of rotation of the disc 165 changes and the pin 166 hits the flat end of the foot 173, causing the slide to move downward. and forward, this movement having the effect of unlocking the lever 91 and stopping the machine.
The locking pawl 124 which hand holds the lever 91 in its forward position is provided with an arm 174 which extends towards the rear and which is placed below a ga let 175 carried by the slider 167 As this slide is moved forward and down by pin 166, roller 175 hits arm 174 and oscillates lever 124 to unlock bar 94, and hence lever 91. When the lever 91 is rusty unlocked, the parts relating to this lever and actuated by it return to their rest position.
The return movement of the bar 99, which is permitted by the withdrawal of the pin 96 attached to the. bar 94, allows lever 107, and therefore lever 62, to return to their normal position. Returning the lever 62 to its normal position allows the clutch control lever 18 to pivot to engage with the clutch housing 13 and disengage. It can therefore be seen that the result of registering an excess figure is to change the direction of rotation of the driver without causing the disengagement, and that the rotation of the driver is stopped at the end of the first cycle of the corrective rotation.
This single cycle of corrective or additive rotation corrects the error produced in the quotient recorder and in the product recorder by recording an excessively large number which determined the transition delay. While the machine is operating as a result of pulling the lever 91 forward, the negative operating key 51 is at rest and the positive operating key 6 is locked by a locking lever 178. so that it cannot be maneuvered.
The present machine also includes a switch which is mounted on the electrical circuit and which closes to energize the motor when the clutch control lever 18 swings to unlock the clutch housing and produce the clutch, as a release. written and shown in Swiss Patent No. 138351 cited above. This switch mechanism has not been described because the present invention is applicable both to machines operated by a continuously rotating motor and to machines operated by a motor which is only excited by the operation of one of the motors. control keys.
