Loom without shuttle. This invention relates to shuttle-less looms of the type described in Swiss patent N 112786, in which the weft comes from a fixed spool mounted on one side of the loom and in which to introduce it into the pitch of the warp, a flexible arm or needle is used formed by a flexible band which is attached to the end of an oscillating arm disposed on one side of the loom and which, as a result of the oscillating movement of the arm, enters the pitch to pass the weft to the other side of the fabric being woven and as soon as it withdraws from the pitch and bends approximately following the circular path of the end of the arm to which it is attached.
The loom which is the subject of the present invention is of the type indicated above and has the particularity that its leaf, consisting simply of the comb and the uprights which support it, is actuated so as to. have a low amplitude oscillation movement and remain in the withdrawn position for the greater part of the revolution of the main shaft of the loom, while to beat the weft it performs a rapid movement forwards and backwards to return and stay in the pulled out position.
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown, by way of example, an embodiment of the loom which is the subject of this invention.
The- fig. 1 is a front elevation of the loom; Fig. 2 is a top view of the same; Fig. 3 a side elevation, and FIG. 4 a section along the line IV-IV of FIG. 1.
As can be seen in the drawing, the loom comprises a frame 1, which carries in the ordinary way and at its rear part a beam 2 in which the warp is placed and at the front part another beam 3 where it is wound the fabric produced. This frame 1 supports the main shaft 4 of the loom, which revises its movement by the driving pulleys 27 and which replaces the ordinary bent shaft of the looms. This main shaft 4 transmits the movement by a transmission chain 5 to a lower shaft 6 which is the camshaft and carries the cams to actuate the larnettes 7 in the usual way.
The weft comes from a fixed spool 8 and is introduced into the pitch by means of an arm or weft introducer needle consisting of a steel strip 9 which is fixed to the end of an oscillating arm 11 and, as a result of the oscillating movement of this arm, it is introduced into or withdrawn from the step. This strip 9 ends at its end with a head through which the weft thread passes so that, when entering the pitch, the weft thread is introduced in double, while at the end of the left of the profession loom, a mechanism 10 which is not shown in detail in the drawing, takes the loop formed by the end of the double weft introduced into the loom and binds it, forming the edge of the piece, the whole of the manner already explained in the Swiss patent cited above.
The leaf, which is reduced to two uprights 12 supporting the comb 13 at the top, is arranged so as to have a very small oscillation angle and, during the greater part of the rotation of the main axis 4 it remains withdrawn in the position shown in fig. 4 to allow the easy passage of the weft carrier band 9, then when this weft carrier band has entered the pitch and then withdrawn, the leaf performs a rapid forward movement to grab the weft , followed by a rapid backward movement, again remaining fixed in the retracted position shown in fig. 4.
To this end, each of the uprights 12 of the leaf has at the upper part a lug 14 carrying a roller 15 disposed in the groove of a cam 16 mounted on the main shaft 4.
As can be seen in detail in FIG. 4, this cam 16 is circular over most of its; periphery, while, only at a reduced angle, it has the eccentric part intended to give the leaf 12 the rapid movement of forward and backward.
. It is thus possible to reduce the oscillation of the leaf and, on the contrary, to have the greatest part of the time used in the rotation of the main shaft 4 to give passage to the weft carrier strip 9 at the end lower step. By virtue of this arrangement, the loom can be operated at a relatively high speed without the movement of the leaf delaying the movement of the weft-carrying strip.
The back and forth movement of the weft carrier strip 9 occurs as in the Swiss patent already cited, by the oscillating movement of an arm 11, at the end of which the strip 9 is fixed, but , in the embodiment shown, the mechanism used to give the oscillating movement to this arm 11 is arranged in such a way that this movement can have a greater amplitude, reach 1800 and even more, which makes it possible to obtain that the radius of the circular arc necessary for lo ging the entire length of the weft carrier strip 9 is smaller, and that the loom occupies less space.
For this purpose, the arm 11 which carries, fixed at its end, the weft-carrying strip is mounted on an axis 17 which carries a toothed pinion 18 which receives the rotational movement by means of a toothed sector 19 of radius more larger than that of the pinion 18 and mounted on the lower axis 20. This axis 20 receives the oscillation movement by means of an arm 21 fixed to it and a connecting rod 22 articulated to the button 23 of the flywheel 24 of the loom to weave fixed on the main shaft 4. It is thus obtained that, with a relatively small oscillation of the arm 21 and of the axis 20, the axis 18 and the arm 11 can be given a very large oscillation angle, the proportion depending only on the ratio of the spokes of pinion 18 and sector 19.
Otherwise, we could not obtain this large angle of oscillation of the arm 11 because the oscillation of the arm 21 which receives the movement directly by the connecting rod 22- must always be carried out at a small angle for there to be a possibility. to transfer the movement from the crank 23 of axis 4.
To be sure that the band 9, by bending by the effect of the movement of the arm 11, the fact following an arc of circumference, is placed on the frame of the loom a part 25 of semicircular shape provided with the necessary number of rollers. 26 to guide the band 9 both when it bends due to the movement of the arm 11 and when it withdraws from this part 25 to enter the pitch.
