Process for the preparation of a true blue sulfur dye. It has been found that the quinone vat dyes described in Swiss patents 122072, 122270 and 122271,
EMI0001.0003
or their equivalents with arylquinones and their derivatives, especially their halogen substitution products, and which probably have the following composition:
EMI0001.0006
(R1 = q aryl, P1, = H or alkyl or aralkyl, X = H or monovalent substituent, o Y = H or monovalent substituent, in particular halogen [Cl]), by subsequent treatment with sulfur - control agents, for example by heating, which are obtained by condensation of the arylamino derivatives of o-aminoaryl mercaptans of the general formula:
(R1 = aryl R = H or alkyl or aralkyl) with alkali metal sulfhydrates, alkali metal sulfides or polysulfides, turn into very valuable blue sulfur dyes. They are characterized by excellent wash and light fastness.
The present patent now relates to the preparation of a real blue sulfur dye by treating the condensation product (quinone vat dye) from 5-phenylamino-a-metallogy-2.1-aminothiophenol and chloranil of the probable formula
EMI0001.0032
with sulphurizing agents. When dry, the dye so obtainable is a blue powder, which is soluble in sulfuric acid with a blue color,
and dyes cotton in a sulphurous sodium bath or in the pool in blue shades of excellent washing and lightfastness.
Example .: 40 kg of the dye obtainable according to the example of Swiss Patent No. 122271 from 5-phenylamino-3-methoxy-2.1-aminothiophenol and chloranil are in a solution of about 250 kg of fuel, about 40 kg of anhydrous sodium sulphide, ind approx. Entered 20 kg of sulfur, and the whole thing is heated in a vessel equipped with a reflux condenser and stirrer for about 20 to 40 hours. The fuel is distilled off, the residue is diluted with salt solution and the deposited Parbsto f 1 is filtered, washed and dried.
