<I>Beispiel 1:</I> 187 Teile 1.8-Aminonaphtoesäure (dar zum Beispiel nach Eckstrand, J. pr.
Process for the preparation of a dinaphthyl diacid. It has been found that dinaphthyl dicarboxylic acids of the general formula: (C1oX,) 2 (COOH) 2 are formed when the diazo compounds of aminonaphthoic acids of the general formula:
EMI0001.0010
treated with a reducing agent, in particular with ammoniacal copper oxide solution.
In the above formulas, the X denotes hydrogen atoms, one or more of which can be replaced by a monovalent substituent.
The dinaphthyl dicarboxylic acids, their derivatives and nuclear substitution products are important intermediate products for the preparation of high quality dyes.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of the 1.l'-di-naphthyl-8. 8 @ - dicarboxylic acid of the formula:
EMI0001.0023
which is characterized in that the diazo compound of 1,8-aminonapthoic acid is treated with a reducing agent.
1.1'-Dinaphthyl-8.8'-dicarboxylic acid is a dry colorless powder that melts above <B> 300 '</B> C, is sparingly soluble in the usual organic solvents and dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a red color, which when Warming turns green; The alkali and magnesium salts of the acid are light, the heavy metal salts are sparingly soluble in water. The diethyl ester melts at <B> 183 '</B> C.
<I> Example 1: </I> 187 parts of 1,8-aminonaphtoic acid (for example according to Eckstrand, J. pr.;? 1, vol. 38, page 160, or according to Ullmann and Cassierer, reports of the German chemical society, Vol. 43, page 440) who diazotized and the poorly soluble,
The separated diazo compound is gradually introduced at ordinary temperature into an ammoniacal copper oxide solution, which is advantageously prepared as follows:
500 parts of copper sulphate are dissolved in water. 400 parts of \ i5% ammonia are added and a stream of sulfur dioxide is introduced until the strongly blue-colored liquid Zn is discolored or has a faint red color. Then enough ammonia is added that the liquid remains ammoniacal until the end of the reaction. When the evolution of nitrogen ceases, the resulting 1,1'-dinaphthyl-8. 8'-dicarboxylic acid deposited.
Example <I> 2: </I> The diazo compound from 187 parts of 1. 8-aminonaplitoic acid is gradually introduced into a warm copper chloride solution in dilute sulfuric acid with stirring, which is prepared, for example, as follows: 500 parts of copper sulfate are in Dissolved water and then 500 parts of sodium bisulfite solution of 36 B6 were added. The mixture is heated until the copper sulfate has been reduced and the sulfur dioxide in cracks has been driven off.
i fiersch t) The reaction starts immediately; After the evolution of nitrogen has ceased, the l'-dinaphthyl-8.8'-di-carboxylic acid that has formed is still deposited in the heat. It is filtered and can be purified by redissolving it in alkalis and reprecipitation by acidification. It is identical to the acid obtained according to Example 1.
Other reducing agents, such as a neutral sodium sulfite release ring or a ferrous salt solution, can also be used.
