Process for the preparation of a benzobenzanthronearboxylic acid. While by treating the 1. 1'-di-naphthyl-8. 8'-digarboxylic acid with acidic condensing agents according to the process of the German Reich Patent No. 280787 a condensation product called anthanthrone is obtained, it was surprisingly found that if one treats the 1.
1'-dinaphthyl-8. If 8'-dicarboxylic acid and its core substitution products are carried out with acidic condensation agents under moderate conditions, new condensation products are obtained which still contain a free carboxyl group and are probably benzobenzanthrone carboxylic acids according to their constitution.
The present patent relates to the preparation of a new benzobenzanthrone carboxylic acid with the probable formula:
EMI0001.0019
characterized in that 'the 1.1'-dinaphthyl - 8. 8'-dicarboxylic acid treated with acidic condensing agents until the reaction product is soluble in glacial acetic acid.
The 1.1 '= dinaphthyl-8.8'-dicarboxylic acid, the starting material for the present reaction, is obtained, for example, by saponifying its diethyl ester, the calf (reports from the German Chemical Society, Volume 47, page 1724) by treating the 1.8-chloronaphthoic acid ester depicted with copper powder.
Example 1: 70 parts of 1.1'-dinaphthyl-8.8'-di carbonic acid are mixed with 200 parts of glacial acetic acid. and 20 parts of anhydrous zinc chloride heated to the boil with stirring and refluxed until the starting material has gone into solution, which is the case after about two hours. The benzobenzanthronecarboxylic acid formed is separated off by diluting the possibly filtered solution with water.
The new compound, which is obtained from a mixture of glacial acetic acid and alcohol in yellow prisms with a melting point of <B> 278 '</B> during the crystallization, is slightly yellow in alkalis and in cold, concentrated sulfuric acid brown-red color soluble.
In contrast to anthanthrone, it is not changed with hydrosulphite and lye. Example <I> 2 </I> In a suspension of 10 parts 1. 1'Dinaphthyl-8.8'-dicarboxylic acid in 48 parts of 48% strength sulfuric acid is allowed to run in 230 parts of sulfuric acid B6 with stirring, the temperature not being expediently allowed to rise above 60. After some time, as indicated in Example 1, the product is worked up by adding the reaction mixture to water .. By dissolving it in alkalis. Filtration and reprecipitation with acid, the compound can be purified.
