Device indicating changes of direction, for road vehicles. The object of the present invention is a device for indicating changes in direction, for road vehicles.
It comprises, like the embodiments described in the disclosure of the invention of main patent No. 102656, at least one indicator able to oscillate about a fixed axis mounted on the vehicle, the indicator whose movements are controlled by a control member actuating a flexible transmission connected to said warning light, which can be brought into various positions, corresponding to the directions that the vehicle can take.
But it differs from it in that the flexible transmission cable connecting the indicator to its control member and which acts by pressure for the movements of the indicator in one direction and by pulling for the movements of the indicator in the other direction, is arranged in a continuous housing in which it can not undergo any deviation which could reduce the amplitude of the movements that it must perform for the control of the indicator light.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is an overall view of the positive device, some parts being cut off; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the sight glass and its support, seen from the end; Fig. 3 is a partial vertical section of the control lever.
The device according to these figures comprises an indicator light 1 in the form of an arrow capable of oscillating on an axis 2, mounted at one of the ends of a support 3, fixed, by the other of its ends and by any appropriate means, to the windshield, for example of a motor car or at any other point of the car, on the left side, in the direction of forward travel of the latter. A sleeve 5 to which the flywheel is fixed is mounted for rotation on the axis 2, the sleeve 5 which has a circular groove 6 at a point of which a hole 61 is provided (FIG. 1). One of the ends of a cable, of a flexible transmission 8, Bowden type, bent at right angles, is introduced into the hole 61 as well as into the groove 6.
The adjacent end of the flexible transmission 8 is fixed in any suitable manner to the support 3, this end being brought as close as possible to the sleeve 5. The support 3 has an edge 3 'partially surrounding the sleeve 5 and folded over the latter. , so as to cover the circular groove 6 and to maintain therein the portion of the cable 7 which is introduced therein. The other of the ends of the cable 7 of the flexible transmission 8, also bent at a right angle, is introduced into a hole 9 ', provided at a point of a circular groove 9 which has a washer 10 mounted for rotation on an axis I1 and fitted inside a box 12 of a lever 13 for controlling the indicator light 1.
The box 12 has a notch 12 'through which the cable 7 can be introduced into said box, tan gentially to the washer 10. The adjacent end of the flexible transmission 8 is fixed in any suitable manner, as close as possible to the cable. 'notch 12', on a cross member 14 fixed under the box 12 of the net 13. On this cross member is screwed, in a tapping provided for this purpose, a threaded tube 15, opening into the box, tube inside which is arranged a ball 16 for latching the lever and on which acts an elastic member 17.
At the other end of the cross member 14 is provided a bolt 18 which, with a flange 19 and with the aid of a tightening nut 19 'provided on the tube 15, allows the fixing of the handle, on one of the spokes of the steering wheel of the automobile, or at any other point thereof.
The cable 7 of the flexible transmission 8 is thus arranged over its entire length in a continuous housing, in which it can not undergo any deviation which could reduce the amplitude of the movements that it must effect, for the control of the indicator light. The net 13 has arrows 20, provided with reference signs corresponding to the movements of the indicator. By rotating said lever to the right and thus exerting traction on the cable 7, the tip of the indicator light will be brought to the right, thereby indicating a change in direction of the vehicle on which the device is mounted, to the right. A stopper provided on the ron delle 10, not shown in the accompanying drawing and into which the ball 16 will enter, will stop the lever in this position.
Once the change of direction has been made, the warning light will be brought back by a rotation in the opposite direction to the previous one, in the vertical position, corresponding to the forward motion of the vehicle. By rotating the lever 13 to the left, thus exerting pressure on the cable 7, the warning light will be brought to the left, thus marking a change of direction to the left of the vehicle, position in which the latching device will stop the lever. .
The stop of the vehicle on which the device is mounted will be indicated by bringing the. seeing, the point directed towards the ground, by a rotation of half a turn on its axis. To do this, turn the lever to the left in the direction marked by arrow A, by exerting pressure on the cable 7. The latching device will stop the movement of the lever at the desired time.
It goes without saying that the cable I can be connected to the sleeve 5 and to the washer 10 in such a way that it is possible to bring the indicator light in the left direction by pulling it on said cable and by pressing it in the right direction.
The device may be fitted with an electric bulb mounted in a reflector of parabolic shape and not shown in the appended drawing, fixed either on the support 3 or on the windshield of the vehicle, in a position such that said bulb simultaneously illuminates the two sides of the warning light, in the various positions it can occupy, in order to make the warning light visible at night, both from the front of the vehicle and from the rear.
An elastic member housed either on the support, or on the lever, or in the flexible transmission will be able to return the indicator light to the forward position as soon as the lever is released.
