Abstract
Le procédé et l'appareil décrits servent dans la production, l'utilisation et l'élimination de dioxyde de chlore. Une composition de chlorite de sodium solide contenant des impuretés, dont au moins une est de l'hydroxyde de sodium, est mise en contact avec un agent consumant essentiellement tout l'hydroxyde de sodium. On produit ensuite du gaz de dioxyde de chlore en mettant en contact la composition qui en résulte avec du chlore dans un gaz véhicule inerte humidifié. On peut ensuite traiter le mélange de gaz de dioxyde de chlore qui en résulte pour en extraire le gaz de chlore qui y est présent en mettant en contact celui-ci avec de la chaux sodée sous forme particulaire. Après avoir utilisé le mélange de gaz de dioxyde de chlore de la façon désirée, le dioxyde de chlore présent dans le gaz effluent épuisé peut être éliminé par l'introduction du gaz effluent dans une solution aqueuse de thiosulfate de sodium ayant une quantité suffisante d'une base inorganique pour maintenir l'alcalinité de la solution pendant la consommation du thiosulfate par le dioxyde de chlore.
