Abstract

PURPOSE: To deodorize a malodorous gas in a deodorizing apparatus by mixing the gas with chlorine dioxide formed by reacting sodium chlorate with hydrochloric acid; countercurrently contacting the mixed gas to a mixt. of reaction waste liquor and a washing soln. to induce gaseous and liquid phase oxidation of the malodorous gas; and washing the mixed gas with an alkali soln. contg. a reducing agent.
CONSTITUTION: Malodorous gas 1 drawn by blower 2 is mixed with reaction mixed gas 4 of an aq. soln. of sodium chlorate and chlorine from chlorine dioxide generator 3, and the mixed gas is introduced into washing tower 18. The reaction waste liquor is introduced into washing soln. storage tank 18a of tower 18 and mixed into the washing soln. The liquid mixt. is then countercurrently contacted to the mixed gas with pump 19 in upper packing region 20 of tower 18 to oxidize gas 1 with gaseous and liquid phase chlorine dioxide and chlorine as well as to remove the water sol. and basic malodorants in gas 1. The mixed gas is further washed with an alkaline aq. soln. contg. a reducing agent in reduction washing tower 6 to remove the reaction products and the excess oxidizing agent, thus deodorizing gas 1 with high efficiency.
