Abstract

PURPOSE: To completely deodorize malodorous gas emitting from waste liquid containing sulfides, discharged from alkali washing process, by passing it through an oxidizing process.
CONSTITUTION: In an alkali washing process, the gas 2a to be treated, e.g., malodorous gas, sucked up by the blower 1 is treated with an alkali washing liquid of sodium hydroxide, etc., in the alkali washing tower 3, where most of malodorous acid components, e.g., hydrogen sulfide, mercaptan, are absorbed and removed. Then, the gas is transferred to a sodium hypochlorite washing process, where the gas is brought into counter current contact with a sodium hypochlorite solution in the washing tower 4 to decompose the malodorous components by oxidation. In the subsequent washing process using a reducing agent, the gas is brought into contact with a washing liquid containing a reducing agent, circulated by the circulating pump 19, whereby sodium hypochlorite mists and excessive oxidants, e.g., oxidative chlorine, present in treated gas discharged from said washing tower 4 are removed, and the gas is discharged as the treated gas 2b.
