Abstract

PURPOSE: To deodorize malodorous gas effectively without secondary pollution by scrubbing the malodorous exhaust gas with an aqueous solution of weak acidic dilute hypochlorite, then contacting the oxidative gas, etc. dissipitated into the exhaust gas with reducing agent or active carbon.
CONSTITUTION: Malodorous exhaust gas, particularly neutral malodorous gas such as methyl sulfide containing trimethyl amine, 1 are introduced into the first scrubbing tower 2a, where they are contacted with the scrubbing solution 4a of more than 100ppm in effective chlorine concentration equivalent of water soluble hypochlorite 7 and pH 5 to 7. Then, the malodorous components in the exhaust gas are removed by the oxidation reaction absorption with hypochlorite. Further, the exhaust gas containing a slight amount of oxidative gas being released from the scrubbing solution 4a is admitted into the second scrubbing tower 2b, where it is contacted with aqueous reducing agent 7 such as of water soluble thiosulfate or active carbon, whereby the oxidative gas is removed. In this way, methyl sulfide, etc. are deodorized effectively without secondary pollution.
