Abstract

"RECEPTORES PARA FATORES DE DIFERENCIAçãO DE CRESCIMENTO, AGONISTAS E ANTAGONISTAS DOS MESMOS E PROCESSOS DE UTILIZAçãO DESSES". A presente invenção fornece um receptor para um fator de diferenciação de crescimento (GDF) substancialmente purificado, incluindo um receptor para o GDF-8 (mioestatina), assim como porções peptídicas funcionais do mesmo. Em adição, a invenção fornece uma representação virtual de um receptor para GDF ou de uma porção peptídica funcional do mesmo. A presente invenção fornece também um processo para modular um efeito da mioestatina sobre uma célula através do contato da célula com um agente que afeta a transdução de sinal pela mioestatina na célula. Em adição, a invenção fornece um processo para diminuir a gravidade de um estado de saúde patogênico, que é caracterizado, pelo menos em parte, por uma quantidade, desenvolvimento ou atividade metabólica anormal do tecido muscular ou adiposo em um indivíduo, através da modulação da transdução de sinal pela mioestatina em uma célula muscular ou em uma célula do tecido adiposo no indivíduo. A invenção fornece ainda um processo para modular o crescimento do tecido muscular ou do tecido adiposo em um organismo eucariótico através da administração de um agente que afeta a transdução de sinal pela mioestatina ao organismo.
