"ECONOMISEUR D'ESSENCE"
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"FUEL SAVER"
We know that in any carburetor, that for a determined air demand around the nozzle, the flow of gasoline through it will decrease if the level in the nozzle is lowered.
Significant fuel savings will therefore be obtained by lowering the level of gasoline in the nozzle, in proportion to the reduction in power demanded from the engine while the latter is running or in proportion to the call for air to the carburetor.
The object of the present patent is precisely the means of realization which make it possible to vary the level of gasoline in the nozzle according to the flow or the speed of the engine.
In other words, in the envisaged fuel saver, the level of gasoline in the nozzle is at its normal level when the air intake is maximum, therefore, maximum engine power, and at a lower level in a point judged
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
minimum when the air intake is zero, ie when the air intake is closed, hence the minimum engine power.
The efficiency of an engine with explosions is maintained with the compression, the economy obtained by the application of this economizer is largely realized from what one approaches during the variable operation of the engine, of a constant compression . In fact, when the call for air decreases, the fuel level decreases, and automatically for myself, reduced power demanded we are forced to resort to an additional call for air which increases the compression.
For this purpose, the chamber containing the float of the carburetor is joined to. the suction pipe opening into the engine, via a pipe over the length of which are arranged air inlets, the passage section of which can be adjusted.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the accompanying drawings represent:
Fig. I a vertical section in elevation in a car-. burator equipped with the envisaged fuel saver.
Fig.2 is a view of a detail of fig.I.
Fig. 3 the vertical section through a carburetor fitted with the economizer in a constructive variant.
Figs. 4 and 5 are partial views of a carburetor fitted with the economizer in other construction variants.
Referring to Figures I and 2, I represents the carburetor nozzle, 2 of which represents the air inlet pipe and 3 the pipe connected to the engine. In 5. is the chamber containing the float 2 and into which the fuel enters through 7. The throttle valve for the fuel mixture at the engine is represented by 4.
On the cover 8 of the chamber 5 is fixed a plug 9 provided with a central tubing 10 opening at II into the chamber 5.
This tubing 10 is surrounded by a tube 12, the lower part of which rests on a shoulder of the stopper 9 and is provided with windows 14 opposite which are located
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
other windows 15 formed on a ring 13 with gentle friction, so that by turning this ring 13 the passage section of the windows 14 is adjusted.
The tube 12 is connected by means of a wire mesh 32 to an angled tube 17 'comprising an axial ¯ duct 16, closable by a needle controlled by the screw 18, in communication with the channel 19 opening at 20 on the face. bevelled 21 of a pipe 22 screwed at 23 on the wall of the suction pipe 3 and on the outer part 24 of which is screwed a knurled nut 25 serving both to hold the pipe at an angle 17 and to allow the rotation of the tube 22 so that its end face 21 can occupy the position as shown in. fig.I or oomme in fig.2 or any other intermediate position.
The operation is easily understood as follows:
In fig.I the air is almost closed by the throttle 4 and the engine has minimum power. The depression of the engine acts through the conduits 19,16,12,10 in the chamber 5, at the same time as air re-entries are made by the windows 15 and 14 and thus slow down the rate of depression communicated by the orifice II channel 10 in chamber 5. It follows that as a result of this depression and the principle of communicating vessels that the level in nozzle 1 which was normally established according to a ai, is reduced according to b b1, hence the quantity of fuel delivered by nozzle I will be lower than if the flow was carried out at level a al,
which / would be the case if chamber 5 was not subjected to a slight depression.
If now we go to. the normal power of the engine by opening the throttle 4, the depression in the ducts 19,16,12,10 will be lower to the point that the depression that existed there in the chamber 5 will be zero and consequently that the fuel level at the nozzle I will go back to al.
We see that depending on the power demanded from the engine, fuel levels "to the nozzle I will be proportional.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
at the requested power and the air call to the carburetor.
The orientation of the pipe 22, the adjustment of the needle screw 18 and the air inlets by 15 will make it possible to adjust the carburetor to the desired conditions.
In fig. 3, the economizer device has been represented by two tubes 27 and 26 penetrating one into the other so as to la.isser a gap between them to allow the re-entry of air.
In fig. 4 on the tube 27 has been screwed a sleeve 28 extending by a tube 29 penetrating into the tube 26 so as to allow the adjustment of the air inlet by turning the sleeve 28 more or less.
Finally, in fig.5 on the tube 26, holes 31 have been made which can be closed more or less by a sliding ring 30.
As can be seen, the economiser envisaged can lend itself to numerous variants of execution.
In summary, it is necessary to consider as coming within the scope of this patent a gasoline saver characterized by the following:
