<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
gallon d'eau chaude.

Method and device for the production of threads which can be used in the manufacture of fabrics.
The present invention relates to the production of yarns such as cotton, estame, wool, artificial silk, jute and the like, these yarns being composed of strands or fibers which are in an untwisted state, c ' that is, free from twist, as is understood in the cotton industries or the like.
Such a untwisted yarn can be used for the manufacture of fabrics, for example to constitute the weft or for other advantageous applications.
The strands or fibers of material as they exit between the feed rolls of a group of draw rolls of a circular spinning machine or of a known drawing system, are suitable for the stated purpose and are those -which are called here detorse.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
These twist-free fibers are, according to the invention, carried forward in the dry state and are then subjected to a wetting process with a suitable adhesive. Arrangements are also provided for bringing these wetted fibers of each group which they constitute into intimate contact with one another, so that they can be tied together.
While so attached, the various groups are dried, either artificially by applying heat for this purpose, or naturally in the open, which is desirable or necessary for the above process.
The device for carrying out the process indicated above may comprise suitable conveyors or bands, one or more of which can be made wet with the aid of an adhesive / apply to said fibers passing over said band or bands. .
In addition, a sideways or vibratory movement, considered laterally, can be applied to a conveyor or belt or to an organ adjacent thereto, so that the strands can be rolled or assembled for the intended purpose, but other means can be used for this purpose,
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
Fig. 1 is a side elevational sectional view of a loom and parts relating thereto, showing by way of example an application of the invention to this loom,
Freezes. 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 show parts of the devices according to said invention or variants thereof) all of these figures, including Fig. 1 being presented more or less in diagram form.
Fig. 3 is a plan view, and on an enlarged scale, of a part included in the figures already cited, and
Fig.4 is an enlarged view of another part to which reference is made in the description.
In Fig. 1, a reel for the fibrous material in question
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tion is shown at 1, mounted in a vertical position, on a loom indicated at 2. The aforementioned fibers before, during and after the treatment, are indicated by 3 in the drawings.
This reel is supposed to be provided with struts or fibrous material of the kind which it is known to use behind each ordinary group of drawing rolls, which fibrous material is shown drawn from this reel, by the cylinders. indicated at 4 of a drawing system, the fibers leaving the feed rolls of said system in a torsion-free state which has already been discussed.
In the various figures the reference numeral 5 refers to the feed rolls, whether they form part of a stretching system or not. It is understood that the elements shown in Fig. 1 constitute a single group of several units in trade 2; that is to say that this group can be used for the formation of a single length of untwisted yarn and that other adjacent and possibly parallel groups to the preceding can be provided on the same loom. that the material for any group may come from a single coil such as 1, or from several coils or other sources, from which the fibers for a single group according to Fig. 1, for example, converge to the special drawing rolls or the feed rolls they contain.
Where the fibers are in a twist-free state on the spools, the use of stretch rollers may not be necessary,
After leaving the feed rolls 5, the fibers (in the case of Fig. 1), which are in the form of a thin and twist-free ribbon, are immediately carried forward by a band conveyor 6, and from the latter through a slot, onto another conveyor belt 7. The latter belt is kept wet with an appropriate liquid adhesive, by means of a rotating cylinder 8 carrying said belt and adjaecent to a cylinder 9, this cylinder 9 being housed in. a trough 10 containing said liquid, as will be seen.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The excess liquid is returned to the trough 10 by means of a member covered with rubber or other similar device shown at 11, in contact with the lower side of the strip 7. The fibers of material of a group or the tape are therefore coated with an adhesive to achieve the attachment before said fibers pass the cylinder of revolution 12. This cylinder is supposed here pivotally mounted on arms projecting on a shaft or rod 3 , the latter being capable of reciprocating longitudinal movement for the purpose of giving cylinder 12 a transverse, vibrating or alternating lateral movement.
This lateral vibratory movement imparts to the fibers of the yarn a movement tending to bring them closer together in order to achieve their attachment. One mode of obtaining this lateral movement is shown in FIG. 3, although any suitable device can be adopted. The shaft 13, working in supports lying on a square bearing of said shaft, is provided with a flange 15 pivoted on it and an eccentric disc 16, the latter being in connection with a pulley 17, in underneath, suitably set in motion by a belt 18 using energy of any suitable kind.
To the. Fig. 3 shows the cylinder 12 of an adjacent unit or group of elements.
After leaving cylinder 12, the wet fibers are shown passing under a pulley-like wheel 19.
As indicated in i ig. 4, this wheel has a groove forming a sharp or acute angle at its inner end, this groove thus formed constituting another means of bringing the fibers intimately together, or for them. keep assembled.
The attached yarn or fibers, when the treatment is completed, are shown wound on a winder or winder drum shown at 20e and the yarn or yarn 3 may, between the cylinder or wheel 19 and said drum undergo the final drying operation. - ge, produced here by exposure to the open air.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
However, artificial drying can be adopted if desired, in particular by passing the yarn through a heated chamber, and this at a place preceding the winding point on the drum such as 20. The roller 22 of Fig. 1 may be a roller to which hot fluid is supplied for the mentioned drying purpose.
In Fig, 2, the conveyor belt represented by 6 in Figl, is not shown, and the fibers 3 pass in the dry state, directly on the wet strip 7, and finally wound on a spool outlined at 21 and supposed to be mounted so that it can pivot.
In Fig. 5, the fibers are wetted with the adhesive, until they have abandoned the strip shown at 7, passing over a cylinder 23 rotating in a trough 24 containing the liquid. Fig.6 shows an arrangement similar to Fig.5, except that the strip shown at 7 is absent.
Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which the finished yarn is wound on a drum located above the cylinder 12 in question here. In this case, the said wire would pass for this purpose partially around the cylinder 12.
In Fig. 8 the last mentioned cylinder is not shown, and if the shafts of the rolls carrying the band 7 were provided as shown in Fig. 3, a vibratory lateral movement could be imparted to said strip to bring the fibers intimately together, before said fibers are wound in the form of yarn on the drum shown at 20 or on any other kind of yarn winder.
The modes of actuation of the various belts and cylinders as shown may be suitably and appropriately chosen, and the layout of the loom as well as the number of groups or units thereof may also be subject to change.
Adhesive suitable for the purpose set forth above can be prepared in the proportions of 9 ounces of glue diluted in one.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
gallon of hot water. Usually, however, the glue used in chain sizing machines and the like can be used.
