Abstract

Un proceso de preparación de un alcohol no saturado (alcohol olefina), tal como, mono-alcohol homo-alílico o poliol homo-alílico, involucra proteger una ácido graso o éster de ácido graso no saturado hidroxi sustituido, tal como ricinoleato metilo, derivado de un aceite de semilla, para formar un ácido graso o éster de ácido graso no saturado hidroxi protegido; homo-metatesizar o metatesizar de forma cruzada el ácido graso o éster de ácido graso no saturado hidroxi protegido para producir una mezcla de producto que contiene un producto de metátesis no saturada hidroxi-protegida; y desproteger el producto metátesis no saturado hidroxi protegido bajo condiciones suficientes para preparar el alcohol no saturado. Preferentemente, ricinoleato metilo se convierte a través de metátesis cruzada u homo-metátesis en el mono-alcohol homo-alílico 1-deceno-4-ol o el poliol homo-alílico 9-octadeceno-7,12-diol, respectivamente.
