Abstract
Se revelan fragmentos de ácidos nucleicos aislados que codifican enzimas biosintéticas de carotenoides, más especifícamente con un fragmento aislado deácidos nucleicos que codifica una fitoeno sintetasa o una zeaxantina epoxidasa y su fragmento complementario. Una realizacion adicional se relaciona con unpolipéptido que codifica una enzima biosintética de carotenoides seleccionada del grupo formado por fitoeno sintetasa o zeaxantina epoxidasa. En otrarealizacion, se relaciona con un gen quimérico que comprende un fragmento de ácidos nucleicos que codifica un fitoenosintetasa o una zeaxantina epoxidasa,ligado operativamente a secuencias reguladoras adecuadas, donde la expresion del gen quimérico da como resultado la produccion de niveles alterados (es decir,incrementados o disminuidos) de la proteína codificada en una célula huésped transformada, que también se describe, con respecto a los niveles producidos enuna célula huésped no transformada. En realizaciones adicionales se refierenun método para alterar el nivel de expresion de una fitoeno sintetasa o unazeaxantina epoxidasa en una célula huésped transformada, un método para obtener dicho fragmento de ácido nucleico, los productos que se obtienen. Asimismo sedescribe un métodopara evaluar por lo menos un compuesto por su capacidad de inhibir la actividad de dichas enzimas.
