Definitions
- the present invention relates to a power storage element.
- Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries typified by lithium ion secondary batteries
- lithium ion secondary batteries are widely used in electronic devices such as personal computers, communication terminals, automobiles, etc. due to their high energy density.
- Capacitors such as lithium ion capacitors and electric double layer capacitors are also widely used as power storage elements other than non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries.
- a power storage element generally includes an electrode body in which a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material and a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material are stacked with a separator in between. Such an electrode body is housed in a container together with an electrolyte to constitute a power storage element. Carbon materials such as graphite are widely used as negative electrode active materials (see Patent Documents 1 and 2).
- the input refers to the energy (power: W) that the power storage element can take in per unit time during charging.
- W power: W
- the input is the input power at the time of charging, and is an index representing the performance that allows efficient charging.
- An object of the present invention is to provide a power storage element with a high input retention rate after charge/discharge cycles.
- a power storage element includes an electrode body in which a positive electrode having a positive electrode active material layer and a negative electrode having a negative electrode active material layer are overlapped with each other with a separator interposed therebetween, and the positive electrode active material layer is a positive electrode active material layer.
- the positive electrode active material layer contains material particles, and the internal porosity of the positive electrode active material particles is 15% or less, and the negative electrode active material layer contains graphite particles, and the internal porosity of the graphite particles is 2% or less.
- FIG. 1 is a transparent perspective view showing one embodiment of a power storage element.
- FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram showing an embodiment of a power storage device configured by collecting a plurality of power storage elements.
- [1] An electrode body in which a positive electrode having a positive electrode active material layer and a negative electrode having a negative electrode active material layer are overlapped with each other via a separator,
- the positive electrode active material layer contains positive electrode active material particles, and the internal porosity of the positive electrode active material particles is 15% or less
- [2] The electricity storage element according to [1] above, wherein the positive electrode active material particles are secondary particles.
- [3] The power storage element according to [1] or [2] above, wherein the positive electrode active material particles contain a lithium transition metal composite oxide having an ⁇ -NaFeO 2 type crystal structure.
- [4] The electricity storage element according to any one of [1] to [3] above, wherein at least a portion of the electrode body is in a pressed state.
- the power storage element has a high input retention rate after charge/discharge cycles. Although the reason for this is not certain, the following reasons are presumed. Normally, in a power storage element in which the negative electrode active material layer contains graphite particles, the graphite particles expand during charging and discharging, and the expanded negative electrode active material layer presses the positive electrode active material layer through the separator. When the positive electrode active material layer is pressed, the positive electrode active material particles in the positive electrode active material layer crack, which reduces electrical contact within the positive electrode active material particles and between the positive electrode active material particles, resulting in a decrease in input power. do. In particular, in the case of positive electrode active material particles with a large internal porosity, cracks are likely to occur even if they are not strongly pressed.
- the power storage element according to one aspect of the present invention uses graphite particles that have a small internal porosity and are less likely to expand during charging and discharging, and positive electrode active material particles that have a small internal porosity and are less prone to cracking. Therefore, cracking of the positive electrode active material particles is suppressed even after repeated charging and discharging, and it is presumed that the input retention rate is high.
- the "internal porosity" of positive electrode active material particles and graphite particles is the amount of voids within the particles relative to the area of the entire particle in the cross section of the particle observed in a SEM image obtained using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). It is the area ratio (porosity) and can be determined by the following procedure.
- (1) Preparation of sample for measurement The positive and negative electrodes to be measured are each fixed with thermosetting resin. The cross sections of the positive and negative electrodes fixed with resin are exposed by ion milling to prepare measurement samples. Note that the positive electrode and negative electrode to be measured are prepared according to the following procedure. If a positive electrode and a negative electrode can be prepared before assembling the electricity storage element, use them as they are.
- the power storage element When preparing an assembled power storage element, the power storage element is first discharged at a constant current of 0.1 C to the discharge end voltage during normal use to bring it into a discharged state. This discharged electricity storage element is disassembled, the positive electrode and the negative electrode are taken out, and components (electrolyte, etc.) adhering to the positive electrode and negative electrode are thoroughly washed with dimethyl carbonate, and then dried under reduced pressure at room temperature for 24 hours. The work from dismantling the power storage element to preparing the positive and negative electrodes to be measured is performed in a dry air atmosphere with a dew point of -40°C or lower.
- normal use refers to a case where the electricity storage element is used under recommended or specified charge/discharge conditions for the electricity storage element.
- JSM-7001F manufactured by JEOL Ltd.
- the SEM image is assumed to be a secondary electron image.
- the accelerating voltage is 15 kV.
- the observation magnification is set so that the number of positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles appearing in one field of view is 3 or more and 15 or less.
- the obtained SEM image is saved as an image file.
- Other conditions such as spot diameter, working distance, irradiation current, brightness, and focus are appropriately set so that the outline of the positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles becomes clear.
- the outline of the positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles is cut out from the acquired SEM image. This outline is cut out by selecting the outside of the outline of the positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles using a quick selection tool, and editing the parts other than the positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles to a black background. At this time, if the number of positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles whose outline could be cut out is less than three, an SEM image is acquired again, and the number of positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles whose outline can be cut out is Repeat until there are 3 or more pieces.
- Binarization processing For the image of the first positive electrode active material particle or graphite particle among the cut-out positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles, image analysis software PopImaging 6.00 is used to calculate the image from the concentration where the intensity is maximum. Binarization processing is performed by setting a density that is 20% smaller as a threshold value. By the binarization process, the area on the higher concentration side is calculated, and this is determined as the "area S1 of the voids within the particle.” Next, the same image as before of the first positive electrode active material particle or graphite particle is subjected to binarization processing using a density of 10% as a threshold value.
- the outer edge of the positive electrode active material particle or graphite particle is determined by the binarization process, and the area inside the outer edge is calculated to obtain "the area S0 of the entire particle.”
- the ratio of S1 to S0 (S1/S0) using S1 and S0 calculated above, the internal porosity of the first positive electrode active material particle or graphite particle (internal porosity relative to the area of the entire particle)
- the area ratio of voids) R1 is calculated.
- the above-mentioned binarization process is also performed on the images of the second and subsequent positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles among the cut-out positive electrode active material particles or graphite particles, and the areas S1 and S0 are calculated.
- the internal porosity R2, R3, . . . of each positive electrode active material particle or graphite particle is calculated.

Description

α-NaFeO2型結晶構造を有するリチウム遷移金属複合酸化物として、例えば、Li[LixNi(1-x)]O2(0≦x<0.5)、Li[LixNiγCo(1-x-γ)]O2(0≦x<0.5、0<γ<1、0<1-x-γ)、Li[LixCo(1-x)]O2(0≦x<0.5)、Li[LixNiγMn(1-x-γ)]O2(0≦x<0.5、0<γ<1、0<1-x-γ)、Li[LixNiγMnβCo(1-x-γ-β)]O2(0≦x<0.5、0<γ、0<β、0.5<γ+β<1、0<1-x-γ-β)、Li[LixNiγCoβAl(1-x-γ-β)]O2(0≦x<0.5、0<γ、0<β、0.5<γ+β<1、0<1-x-γ-β)等が挙げられる。
