- OCV is also called open circuit voltage, in other words, it can be said to be the voltage of the battery when it is not energized.
- the OCV corresponds to the difference between the positive OCP (Open Circuit Potential) and the negative OCP.
- the OCP of the negative electrode changes depending on the potential of the zinc alloy particles that are the negative electrode active material.
- the negative electrode contains a surfactant, it is considered that the surface potential of zinc alloy particles with a large amount of attached surfactant increases.
- the negative electrode contains zinc alloy particles with a low surface-active agent adhesion amount and zinc alloy particles with a high surface-active agent adhesion amount
- the negative electrode contains zinc alloy particles with a high surface potential and zinc alloy particles with a low surface potential. There are particles.
- the OCP of the negative electrode is determined by zinc alloy particles with low surface potential.
- the path connecting the zinc alloy particles with a low surface potential is cut, and the zinc alloy particles with a high surface potential are considered to have a greater influence on the OCP. Therefore, there is a possibility that the OCP of the negative electrode changes due to the impact given to the alkaline dry battery during the OCV test, resulting in a temporary decrease in OCV.
- the temporarily lowered OCV recovers after a certain period of time. This recovery is believed to indicate that the temporary drop in OCV is not due to battery failure, but due to temporary conductive path alterations in the negative electrode. Therefore, it is necessary to suppress a temporary decrease in OCV in order to avoid a non-defective alkaline dry battery being judged as a defective product.
- a temporary decrease in OCV means a phenomenon in which the OCV (1) measured after the alkaline battery is assembled (for example, within 7 days) is temporarily decreased due to impact.
- a temporary decrease in OCV is an OCV that determines that OCV (1) is a defective battery, and then OCV measured after a certain period of time (hereinafter sometimes referred to as “OCV (2)”). It means that the OCV is determined to be a non-defective battery.
- the OCV determined as a defective battery is a voltage (mode V ⁇ 3 mV) or less than the mode V of the OCV of a large number (eg, 100 or more) of alkaline dry batteries manufactured under the same conditions. That is, when OCV(1) is (mode V-3 mV) or less, the battery is determined to be defective. Then, when the OCV (2) measured again after 3 minutes or more have passed since the measurement of the OCV (1) of the battery determined to be defective is higher than (mode V - 3 mV) , it is determined that there was a temporary drop in the OCV of that battery. In addition, the measurement of OCV is performed at room temperature (about 25 degreeC).
- the mode V of OCV means the value of OCV with the highest distribution frequency when the OCV is measured so that the significant digits are three digits after the decimal point when the OCV is expressed in units of volt (V).
- a temporary drop in OCV is particularly likely to occur during a short period of time after assembly when the battery's constituent materials are not familiar. After a certain period of time has passed after assembly, the constituent materials of the battery become familiar with each other, so that a temporary drop in OCV is less likely to occur. When the negative electrode does not contain a surfactant, the temporary decrease in OCV does not substantially occur.
- the negative electrode By including a surfactant in the negative electrode, it is possible to prevent the zinc alloy powder from corroding in the alkaline electrolyte and generating hydrogen gas.
- hydrogen gas When hydrogen gas is generated in the battery, it causes an increase in battery internal pressure and leakage. Therefore, in order to improve the reliability of alkaline dry batteries, it is important that the negative electrode contains a surfactant.

Specifically, the viscosity of the negative electrode can be increased by setting the ratio R(75) to 9% by mass or more and the content of the zinc alloy powder in the negative electrode to 60% by mass or more. By increasing the viscosity of the negative electrode, it is thought that cutting of the conductive paths between the zinc alloy particles can be suppressed.
- the temporary decrease in OCV can be particularly suppressed.
- the number of contact points between the zinc alloy particles constituting the zinc alloy particles 31 is within an appropriate range by satisfying the above condition (3). . If the number of contacts between the zinc alloy particles is too large or too small, when the conductive path between the zinc alloy particles is cut by impact, a conductive path passing through the high-potential zinc alloy particles is likely to be formed. It is considered that the OCP of the negative electrode is increased.
