Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for producing lithium sulfide.
- Lithium sulfide is known as a solid electrolyte for lithium batteries.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a method of reacting lithium hydroxide with hydrogen sulfide in an aprotic organic solvent to obtain lithium hydroxide, and further advancing the reaction to produce lithium sulfide.
- Patent Document 2 discloses a method for producing lithium sulfide that does not use an organic solvent.
- metallic lithium is reacted with sulfur steam or hydrogen sulfide to generate lithium sulfide on metallic lithium. Then, the unreacted metallic lithium is melted at a high temperature, diffused and permeated into the already produced lithium sulfide, and then cooled. Then, metallic lithium is reacted with sulfur vapor or hydrogen sulfide again to generate lithium sulfide. Such a cycle is repeated to react 100% of metallic lithium.
- Patent Document 3 discloses a method for producing lithium sulfide by reacting lithium carbonate with hydrogen sulfide.
- Patent Document 4 discloses a method for producing lithium sulfide that does not use hydrogen sulfide.
- lithium sulfate and carbon powder are adjusted into fine particles and mixed to increase the reaction area and reduce the amount of unreacted raw materials.
- Patent Document 1 uses an organic solvent, which increases the cost.
- Patent Document 2 it is necessary to repeat the reaction cycle, which increases the cost.
- Patent Document 3 uses toxic hydrogen sulfide gas, it is difficult to manage and it may be difficult to ensure safety.
- Patent Document 4 since fine particles must be adjusted and mixed, the number of steps is increased.
- fine particles may scatter inside the equipment, reducing the amount of recovery. As described above, there is room for improvement in the method for producing lithium sulfide having high ionic conductivity used in lithium batteries.
- the present invention has been made in view of the above, and an object of the present invention is to provide a more appropriate method for producing lithium sulfide having high ionic conductivity.
- the method for producing lithium sulfide of the present invention uses a raw material containing lithium sulfate as a main component, which has a property of reducing the weight by 5% or more and 25% or less by 120 ° C.
- a preparatory step of putting the reducing agent into the furnace and a temperature raising step of heating the raw material and the reducing agent to raise the temperature in the furnace are included.
- the method for producing lithium sulfide according to the present invention has the effect of being able to more appropriately produce lithium sulfide having high ionic conductivity.
- FIG. 1 is a flowchart showing a process of a method for producing lithium sulfide.
- FIG. 2 is a schematic view showing an example of a manufacturing apparatus including a rotary kiln.
- FIG. 3 is an SEM photograph of the lithium sulfate raw material when the temperature is raised in the present embodiment.
- FIG. 4 is a graph showing the test results of the examples, and is a graph showing the measurement results of the X-ray diffraction measurement.
- FIG. 5 is a graph showing the test results of the examples, and is a graph showing the AC impedance measurement.
- FIG. 1 is a flowchart showing a process of a method for producing lithium sulfide.
- FIG. 2 is a schematic view showing an example of a manufacturing apparatus including a rotary kiln.
- lithium sulfate as a raw material and a reducing agent which are mainly composed of lithium sulfate having a property of reducing weight by 5% or more and 25% or less by 120 ° C., are used in one furnace. The temperature is raised to produce lithium sulfide.
- a mixture of hydrated lithium sulfate that causes weight loss With such lithium N sulphate hydrate, the surface area increases and the unreacted residue decreases due to the formation of fine cracks on the surface of lithium sulfate due to the volume change at the time of temperature rise. Weight loss of less than 5% is not enough to crack the entire raw material. Further, when the weight is reduced by 25% or more, the amount of water is large and the particles are bonded to each other, making it difficult to mix with the reducing agent. In addition, it is not efficient because more water than necessary for crack formation must be volatilized.
- the average particle size of lithium sulfate is preferably 10 ⁇ m or more and 100 ⁇ m or less, more preferably 15 ⁇ m or more and 80 ⁇ m or less, and further preferably 30 ⁇ m or more and 50 ⁇ m or less.
- Lithium sulfate which is a raw material for the method for producing lithium sulfide of the present embodiment, does not need to be in the form of fine particles. Therefore, for example, even in the case of manufacturing using equipment such as the rotary kiln 11, powdered lithium sulfate may be scattered inside the kiln body (furnace) 12 of the rotary kiln 11 and recovery may be difficult. Is reduced.
- the reducing agent is not limited as long as it is a material containing carbon as a main component, such as activated carbon.
- the reducing agent is activated carbon
- the activated carbon preferably has an average particle size of 1 ⁇ m or more and 10 ⁇ m or less.
- the method for producing lithium sulfide includes a preparatory step of charging lithium sulfate and a reducing agent into the furnace (step S12), a temperature raising step of raising the temperature of the furnace (step S14), and cooling the furnace.
- the cooling step (step S16) is included.
- lithium sulfate and the reducing agent are charged into the furnace at a predetermined molar ratio.
- lithium sulfate and a reducing agent are mixed in a predetermined molar ratio.
- the molar ratio of lithium sulfate to activated carbon, which is a reducing agent is preferably 2 or more and 4 or less in terms of C / Li 2 SO 4 ratio, for example.
- the temperature raising step lithium sulfate and a reducing agent are heated in a furnace to raise the temperature.
- lithium sulfate is dehydrated and reduced by a reducing agent.
- the temperature is raised to a temperature range of 700 ° C. or higher and 950 ° C. or lower, preferably 800 ° C. or higher and 850 ° C. or lower, for example, under an inert atmosphere at a dew point of ⁇ 60 ° C.
- the type of the inert gas is argon or nitrogen.
- the reaction rate between lithium sulfate and the reducing agent is slow, and the productivity is low.
- lithium sulfide dissolves.
- 850 ° C. or higher since it is above the melting point of lithium sulfate as a raw material, lithium sulfate remaining unreacted is dissolved.
- 800 ° C. or higher and 850 ° C. or lower lithium sulfate does not melt, and lithium sulfide having a particle shape can be obtained.
- the reaction rate is high and the productivity is high.
- the temperature raising step it is preferable that the temperature is raised at a temperature rising rate of 10 ° C./min or more after the start of heating to reach a desired temperature range.
- the heating time in a desired temperature range is preferably 5 minutes or more and 90 minutes or less. The reason why the heating time is preferably in the above range is that if the heating time is kept at a high temperature for a long time, grain growth gradually occurs and the reactivity is lowered.
- FIG. 3 is an SEM photograph of the lithium sulfate raw material when the temperature is raised in this embodiment.
- the lithium sulfate particles undergo a large volume change, and as shown in FIG. 3, fine cracks are formed and the reaction area becomes wide. This reduces the amount of lithium sulfate that remains unreacted. Since the particles of lithium sulfate are cracked finely, it is not necessary to prepare lithium sulfate into a fine powder.
- the furnace is cooled to 200 ° C. or lower after the heating step.
- the heated furnace is naturally cooled.
- the preparation step, the temperature raising step, and the cooling step may be performed, for example, by using the manufacturing apparatus 10 having the rotary kiln 11.
- the manufacturing apparatus 10 is an apparatus for producing lithium sulfide by putting lithium sulfate as a raw material and activated carbon as a reducing agent into one furnace and raising the temperature.
- the manufacturing apparatus 10 includes a rotary kiln 11, a material charging apparatus 18, and a discharge pipe 24.
- the rotary kiln 11 includes a kiln main body 12, a heater 14, and a drive unit 16.
- the kiln body 12 is a tubular member.
- the kiln main body 12 is arranged so that the central axis of the tubular shape is inclined with respect to the horizontal direction so that the end portion on the material charging device 18 side is vertically upward with respect to the other end portion. Is preferable.
- the heater 14 heats the kiln body 12.
- the drive unit 16 rotates the kiln body 12 with the cylindrical central axis as the rotation axis.
- the drive unit 16 includes a drive source 30 and a transmission mechanism 32.
- the drive source 30 generates a rotational force of a motor or the like.
- the transmission mechanism 32 transmits the rotational force of the drive source 30 to the kiln main body 12.
- the material charging device 18 charges lithium sulfate and activated carbon into the rotary kiln 11.
- the material charging device 18 includes a material storage unit 21 and a supply pipe 22.
- the material storage unit 21 stores lithium sulfate and activated carbon.
- the supply pipe 22 connects the material storage unit 21 and the kiln main body 12.
- the supply pipe 22 is connected to the upstream side of the transport path between lithium sulfate and activated carbon in the kiln body 12.
- the supply pipe 22 supplies lithium sulfate and activated carbon from the material storage unit 21 to the kiln main body 12.
- the discharge pipe 24 is connected to the end opposite to the end to which the supply pipe 22 of the kiln main body 12 is connected.
- the discharge pipe 24 is connected to the downstream side of the transport path between lithium sulfate and activated carbon in the kiln body 12. Lithium sulfide produced through the kiln body 12 is discharged from the discharge pipe 24.
- lithium sulfate and activated carbon having a predetermined molar ratio are charged into the kiln main body 12 of the rotary kiln 11 from the material charging device 18.
- Lithium sulfate and a reducing agent charged into the kiln body 12 are mixed.
- the kiln main body 12 is rotated around the rotation axis by the drive unit 16 while being heated by the heater 14.
- the lithium sulfate and activated carbon supplied to the kiln main body 12 move from the supply pipe 22 toward the discharge pipe 24 along the transport path by the rotation of the kiln main body 12.
- Lithium sulfate and activated carbon moving in the transport path are heated to a desired temperature by the heater 14. Since lithium sulfate and activated carbon are not in the form of fine particles, scattering in the transport path is suppressed. Then, in the cooling step, the heater 14 is stopped to cool the kiln body 12 and lithium sulfide. Then, the produced lithium sulfide is discharged from the discharge pipe 24 and recovered.
- lithium sulfate and a reducing agent can be placed in one furnace and heated to produce lithium sulfide.
- the present embodiment can provide a method suitable for producing lithium sulfide using the manufacturing apparatus 10 having the rotary kiln 11.
- toxic hydrogen sulfide gas is not used in the manufacturing process.
- the manufacturing process can be easily controlled and safety can be ensured.
- lithium sulfate and a reducing agent are used in the manufacturing process, and no organic solvent is used, so that the cost can be suppressed.
- lithium sulfide can be produced more appropriately.
- the crucible containing the mixture of lithium sulfate monohydrate and activated carbon was placed in a small muffle furnace and heated to 850 ° C. in 10 minutes. The state of 850 ° C. was maintained for 30 minutes.
- the produced sample was pulverized in an agate mortar, and then powder X-ray diffraction measurement was carried out using a D8ADVANCE device manufactured by Burker to evaluate unreacted residues. Further, after 0.3 g of the crushed sample was filled in the conductivity measurement cell, AC impedance measurement was performed in a measurement range of 1 Hz or more and 7 MHz or less in a state where a pressure of 360 MPa was applied at room temperature of 25 ° C.
- lithium sulfate monohydrate was used as a raw material.
- activated carbon was used as the reducing agent.
- the molar ratio of carbon to oxygen (C / O 2 ) of the activated carbon was 1.2.
- the temperature of the temperature raising step was 850 ° C.
- the average particle size of the raw materials was changed.
- the average particle size of lithium sulfate monohydrate as a raw material was defined as "large” in the range of 80 ⁇ m or more and 100 ⁇ m or less, “medium” in the range of 30 ⁇ m or more and 50 ⁇ m or less, and “small” in the range of 15 ⁇ m or less.
- lithium sulfate anhydride was used as a raw material instead of lithium sulfate monohydrate.
- the same reducing agent as in the example was used.
- Comparative Examples 1 to 5 the average particle size of the raw materials and the temperature were changed.
- Example 1 In Example 1, the average particle size of lithium sulfate monohydrate was set to “large”. The measurement result of the AC impedance measurement of the sample produced in Example 1 is shown in FIG.
- Example 2 In Example 2, the average particle size of lithium sulfate monohydrate was set to “medium”.
- the measurement result of the powder X-ray diffraction measurement of the sample produced in Example 2 is shown in FIG.
- the measurement result of the AC impedance measurement of the sample produced in Example 2 is shown in FIG.
- Example 3 In Example 3, the average particle size of lithium sulfate monohydrate was set to “medium”. The measurement result of the AC impedance measurement of the sample produced in Example 3 is shown in FIG.
- Comparative Example 1 In Comparative Example 1, the average particle size of lithium sulfate anhydride was set to “large”. In Comparative Example 1, the temperature in the temperature raising step was set to 850 ° C. The weight loss of the lithium sulfate anhydride used in the comparative example when the temperature is raised to 120 ° C. is less than about 5%.
- Comparative Example 2 In Comparative Example 2, the average particle size of lithium sulfate anhydride was set to “medium”. In Comparative Example 2, the temperature in the temperature raising step was set to 850 ° C.
- FIG. 4 shows the measurement results of the powder X-ray diffraction measurement of the sample produced in Comparative Example 2.
- FIG. 5 shows the measurement results of the AC impedance measurement of the sample produced in Comparative Example 2.
- Comparative Example 3 In Comparative Example 3, the average particle size of lithium sulfate anhydride was set to “small”. In Comparative Example 3, the temperature in the temperature raising step was set to 850 ° C. FIG. 5 shows the measurement results of the AC impedance measurement of the sample produced in Comparative Example 3.
- Comparative Example 4 In Comparative Example 4, the average particle size of lithium sulfate anhydride was set to “small”. In Comparative Example 4, the temperature in the temperature raising step was 750 ° C.
- Comparative Example 5 In Comparative Example 5, the average particle size of lithium sulfate anhydride was set to “small”. In Comparative Example 5, the temperature in the temperature raising step was set to 900 ° C.
- Example 1 The measurement results of Example 1, Example 2, Example 3, Comparative Example 1, Comparative Example 2, Comparative Example 3, Comparative Example 4, and Comparative Example 5 are shown in Table 1 below.
- FIG. 4 is a graph showing the test results of the examples, and is a graph showing the measurement results of the X-ray diffraction measurement. From Table 1, no unreacted residue was found in Examples 1 to 3. In Example 1, the unreacted residue is in the form of a gray powder. In Examples 2 and 3, the unreacted residue is in the form of a white powder. From FIG. 4, it can be seen that in Example 2, only the peak of lithium sulfide appears, and the peak of the raw material lithium sulfate does not appear. In Examples 1 and 3, the same measurement results of X-ray diffraction measurement can be obtained. In Comparative Example 1, there is carbon as an unreacted residue, and it is a black powder.
- Comparative Example 2 the unreacted residue has a little carbon and is a gray powder. In Comparative Example 3, no unreacted residue was observed, and the powder was white. In Comparative Example 4, there is carbon in the unreacted residue, and the powder is black. In Comparative Example 5, no unreacted residue was observed, but the sample was melted and agglomerated. From these, the unreacted residue can be reduced in the examples as compared with the comparative examples. In the examples, the smaller the average particle size of lithium sulfate monohydrate, the more the unreacted residue can be reduced. Comparative Example 3 has the same result as that of Example, but requires a process of miniaturizing the raw material. From this test, it was confirmed that when lithium sulfate monohydrate was used as a raw material, unreacted residues could be reduced and lithium sulfide could be produced more appropriately.
- FIG. 5 is a graph showing the test results of the examples, and is a graph showing the AC impedance measurement. From FIG. 5 and Table 1, the AC impedance is small in Examples 1 to 3. In Comparative Example 2 and Comparative Example 3, since carbon is slightly present or not left, the AC impedance can be measured, but it is inferior to that of Examples 1 to 3. In Comparative Example 1 and Comparative Example 4, since carbon remains, a short circuit occurs and the AC impedance cannot be measured. In Comparative Example 5, the molten sample is attached to the crucible and cannot be recovered by treatment with a small amount. From these, the example can have a higher ionic conductivity than the comparative example.
- lithium sulfide by using lithium sulfate monohydrate having an average particle size of lithium sulfate monohydrate in the range of "medium” or "small", the amount of unreacted residue is small. , Lithium sulfate with high ionic conductivity can be obtained. From the above, it can be seen that lithium sulfate having a desired ionic conductivity can be appropriately produced by performing the production under the above-mentioned conditions.
