长期以来,汽车发动机仓内起火,通常都会造成比较大的人员和财产的损失,起火原因大多为电火花引燃燃料油,或者是发动机舱内的线路老化、私自改装线路而引起的自燃,或者是因撞击引起火灾等。由于汽车发动机仓内为特定的封闭环境,所以当汽车机仓内发生火灾时,机盖打不开,无法对其进行有效灭火,如果强行打开后,一方面对操作人员的安全造成威胁易受伤,另一面机盖打开后,火苗会迅速窜大,增大火势;即使在外部利用灭火器进行灭火时,也需要灭火人员近距离才能进行,因此对灭火人员的人身安全也存在隐患。现有的灭火器的灭火效果只能达到百分之十至百分之二十;再者现有技术中的灭火器的操作程序大多是:要事先摇晃、拔掉安全销、压下压把、对准火源根部等一系列操作,这尤其不适合汽车机仓内发生火灾时的及时应对。
