Description

補強ゴムの評価方法
  本発明は、基材繊維の表面および内部に被覆膜が付着してなる心線が、ゴム材料中に埋設されてなる補強ゴムを評価する方法に係り、より詳しくは、心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分の特性を適切に評価することのできる、補強ゴムの評価方法に関する。
  ゴム材料中に、心線が埋設されてなる補強ゴムは、ベルトやゴムホース、ダイヤフラム、タイヤなどの多くの分野で使用されている。たとえば、ベルトの分野では、自動車用タイミングベルトなどの歯付きベルト、ポリリブドベルト、ラップドベルト、Vベルト等として用いられている。また、心線を構成する基材繊維としては、ガラス繊維や、炭素繊維、化学繊維などが用いられている。
  このような補強ゴムは、たとえば、基材繊維に、合成ゴムのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物を付着させることで被覆膜を形成し、バインダー組成物により被覆膜を形成した基材繊維を、水素化ニトリルゴムなどの各種ゴム材料からなるゴムマトリックスに埋設させることで製造される(たとえば、特許文献1参照)。

  上記特許文献1の製造方法などにより得られる補強ゴムは、心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に、合成ゴムのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物を付着させることで被覆膜を形成し、このような被覆膜により、基材繊維と、各種ゴム材料からなるゴムマトリックスとの接着を確保するものである。そのため、合成ゴムのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物から構成される被覆膜の特性は、補強ゴムの特性を決定する上で非常に重要となる。しかしその一方で、このような被覆膜の特性を測定するための有効な測定方法については、何ら見出されていないのが実状である。
  本発明は、このような実状に鑑みてなされたものであり、心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分の特性を適切に評価することのできる、補強ゴムの評価方法を提供することを目的とする。
  本発明者等は、上記目的を達成するために鋭意検討を行った結果、補強ゴムから、心線を構成する基材繊維の含有割合が60重量%以上となるように、心線を抜き出し、抜き出した心線に対して、パルス法NMRを用いて、心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜の測定を行うことにより、上記目的を達成できることを見出し、本発明を完成させるに至った。
  すなわち、本発明によれば、基材繊維の表面および内部に被覆膜が付着してなる心線が、ゴム材料中に埋設されてなる補強ゴムを評価する方法であって、前記補強ゴムから、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の含有割合が60重量%以上となるように、前記心線を抜き出す第1工程と、抜き出した前記心線に対して、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜の測定を行う第2工程と、を備えることを特徴とする補強ゴムの評価方法が提供される。
  本発明においては、前記第1工程において、前記心線を抜き出す際に、前記心線中における灰分量が60重量%以上となるように、前記心線を抜き出すことが好ましい。
  本発明においては、前記補強ゴムが、前記基材繊維に、合成ゴムのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物を付着させることで被覆膜を形成する工程と、前記被覆膜を形成した前記基材繊維を、前記ゴム材料中に埋設させた状態で、前記ゴム材料と接着させる工程とを経て得られたものであることが好ましい。
  本発明においては、前記基材繊維が、ガラス繊維であることが好ましい。
 本発明においては、前記第2工程において、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分の緩和時間の測定を行い、測定した緩和時間に基づいて、前記被覆膜成分の評価を行うことが好ましい。
 本発明においては、前記第2工程において、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間の測定を行うことで、測定したスピン-スピン緩和時間に基づいて、前記被覆膜成分の評価を行うことが好ましい。
 本発明においては、前記第2工程において、前記第2工程において、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間の測定を行い、測定したスピン-スピン緩和時間を、スピン-スピン緩和時間が異なる2以上の成分に分け、異なる2以上の各成分の比率、および異なる2以上の各成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間に基づいて、前記被覆膜成分の評価を行うことが好ましい。
  また、本発明においては、前記補強ゴムが油中ベルトまたは空中ベルトであることが好ましい。
  本発明によれば、基材繊維の表面および内部に被覆膜が付着してなる心線が、ゴム材料中に埋設されてなる補強ゴムの、基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分の特性を適切に評価することができる。
図1は、本発明の評価方法に用いる、補強ゴムの一例としての歯付ベルトを示す図である。
  本発明の補強ゴムの評価方法は、
  基材繊維の表面および内部に被覆膜が付着してなる心線が、ゴム材料中に埋設されてなる補強ゴムを評価する方法であり、
  前記補強ゴムから、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の含有割合が60重量%以上となるように、前記心線を抜き出す第1工程と、
  抜き出した前記心線に対して、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜の測定を行う第2工程と、を備える。
  以下においては、本発明の補強ゴムの評価方法について説明を行う前に、本発明の評価方法に用いる、補強ゴムについて、図1に示す補強ゴムの一例としての歯付ベルト10を用いて説明を行う。
  図1に示すように、本発明の評価方法に用いる、補強ゴムの一例としての歯付ベルト10は、ベルト長手方向(図1中のx方向)に沿って、所定間隔で配置された複数の歯部20、ベルト長手方向に延在する複数の心線30、複数の心線30が埋設された背部40、および複数の歯部20の表面を被覆する基布50を有する。歯付ベルト10としては、油中で使用される油中ベルトや、油中では使用しない空中ベルトのいずれであってもよく、油中ベルトや空中ベルトは、エアコンベルト、パワーステアリングベルト、補機ベルト、タイミングベルト、オイルポンプベルトなど各種用途で用いられる。
  複数の歯部20および背部40は、ゴム組成物から成るゴム架橋物であるゴム材料で構成される。歯部20および背部40を構成するゴム組成物を構成するゴムとしては、特に限定されないが、クロロプレンゴム、ニトリルゴム、水素化ニトリルゴム(HNBR)、天然ゴム、エチレンプロピレンゴム(EPM、EPDM)、スチレン-ブタジエンゴム、ブチルゴム、クロロスルフォン化ポリエチレンゴム、ウレタンゴム、フッ素ゴム等が用いられる。これらのなかでも、機械的特性や耐薬品性等に優れることから、ニトリルゴムや水素化ニトリルゴム(HNBR)が好適に用いられる。歯部20および背部40は、同じゴム組成物で構成されたものであっても、あるいは、異なるゴム組成物で構成されたものであってもよい。
  また歯部20および背部40を構成するゴム組成物には硫黄、過酸化物、ポリアミン類などの加硫剤(架橋剤)が用いられる。
  また歯部20および背部40を構成するゴム組成物は、カーボンブラック、シリカ、などの補強材;炭酸カルシウム、タルクやクレイなどの充填材;各種脂肪族ポリアミドまたは各種芳香族ポリアミド(アラミド)などの短繊維(チョップドファイバー状でもフィブリル化されたパルプ状でもよい);酸化亜鉛や酸化マグネシウムなどの金属酸化物;メタクリル酸亜鉛やアクリル酸亜鉛などのα,β-エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸金属塩;共架橋剤;加硫助剤(架橋助剤);架橋遅延剤;老化防止剤;酸化防止剤;光安定剤;スコーチ防止剤;ジエチレングリコールなどの活性剤;シランカップリング剤;可塑剤;加工助剤;滑剤;粘着剤;潤滑剤;難燃剤;防黴剤;受酸剤;帯電防止剤;顔料;などが配合されていてもよい。
  また、歯付ベルト10は、図1に示すように、ベルト長手方向に延在する複数の心線30が、ベルト幅方向(図1中のy方向)に並んだ状態にて、背部40を構成するゴム材料に埋設されている。心線30は、コード状の基材繊維の表面および内部に被覆膜が付着してなるものである。基材繊維を構成する繊維の種類は、特に限定されず、その具体例としては、ビニロン繊維、ポリエステル繊維、ナイロン、アラミド(芳香族ポリアミド)等のポリアミド繊維、PBO繊維、フッ素系繊維、ガラス繊維、炭素繊維、綿、レーヨン等が挙げられる。これらのなかでも、ガラス繊維が好適に用いられる。ガラス繊維は一般的な無アルカリガラスでも、引張強度に優れる高強度ガラスであっても良い。なお、ガラス繊維の最小構成単位であるフィラメントについて、その平均径が5~13μmの一般的なものが好ましい。
  また、心線30を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に形成される被覆膜は、基材繊維と、背部40を構成するゴム材料とを接着させるために形成されるものであり、通常、基材繊維の表面および内部に、合成ゴムのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物を付着させることで形成される。すなわち、被覆膜は、図に示す心線30の外縁だけでなく、基材繊維内部にも存在する形にて形成される。
  合成ゴムのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物としては、特に限定されないが、合成ゴムのラテックスとして、合成ポリブタジエン、合成ポリイソプレン、合成ポリクロロプレン等の共役ジエン単量体の単独重合体もしくは共重合体のラテックス;スチレン-ブタジエン共重合体、ビニルピリジン-スチレン-ブタジエン共重合体、スチレン-イソプレン共重合体、スチレン-イソプレン-スチレンブロック共重合体、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体、アクリロニトリル-イソプレン共重合体、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン-イソプレン共重合体、ブチルアクリレート-ブタジエン共重合体等の共役ジエン単量体とこれと共重合可能な他の単量体との共重合体のラテックス;アクリレート系(共)重合体のラテックス;クロロスルホン化ポリエチレンのラテックス;等を含有するものが挙げられる。これらのラテックスは単独で用いられていてもよいし、併用して用いられていてもよい。これらのなかでも、背部40を構成するゴム材料として、ニトリルゴムや、水素化ニトリルゴムを用いた場合に、心線30と、背部40との接着力をより高いものとすることができるという観点より、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物が好適である。
  アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスを構成する、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体は、アクリロニトリル単位と、1,3-ブタジエン単位とを有するものであればよいが、心線30と、背部40との接着力をより高めることができるという観点より、酸基含有α,β-エチレン性不飽和単量体単位をも含有するものが好ましい。
  酸基含有α,β-エチレン性不飽和単量体は、分子内にα,β-エチレン性不飽和結合と酸基とを含有する単量体であり、酸基としては、特に限定されず、カルボキシル基、スルホン酸基、リン酸基等のいずれでもよいが、カルボキシル基が好ましい。酸基含有α,β-エチレン性不飽和単量体としては、炭素数3~18のものが好ましく、炭素数3~9のものが特に好ましい。
  カルボキシル基を有するα,β-エチレン性不飽和単量体としては、α,β-エチレン性不飽和モノカルボン酸、α,β-エチレン性不飽和ジカルボン酸、α,β-エチレン性不飽和ジカルボン酸モノエステルのほか、カルボキシル基を有する化合物に変化し得るα,β-エチレン性不飽和ジカルボン酸無水物が挙げられる。
  α,β-エチレン性不飽和モノカルボン酸としては、アクリル酸、メタクリル酸、エタクリル酸、クロトン酸、ケイ皮酸等が例示される。
  α,β-エチレン性不飽和ジカルボン酸としては、マレイン酸、フマル酸、イタコン酸、シトラコン酸、クロロマレイン酸等が例示される。
  α,β-エチレン性不飽和ジカルボン酸モノエステルとしては、マレイン酸モノメチル、マレイン酸モノエチル、マレイン酸モノブチル、マレイン酸モノシクロヘキシル、フマル酸モノメチル、フマル酸モノエチル、フマル酸モノブチル、フマル酸モノ-2-ヒドロキシエチル、フマル酸モノシクロヘキシル、イタコン酸モノメチル、イタコン酸モノエチル、イタコン酸モノブチル等が例示される。
  α,β-エチレン性不飽和ジカルボン酸無水物としては、無水マレイン酸、無水イタコン酸、無水シトラコン酸等が挙げられる。
  これらのなかでも、α,β-エチレン性不飽和モノカルボン酸が好ましく、炭素数3~9のα,β-エチレン性不飽和モノカルボン酸がより好ましく、アクリル酸およびメタクリル酸がさらに好ましく、メタクリル酸が特に好ましい。
  また、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスを構成する、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体は、アクリロニトリル単位、ブタジエン単位、および酸基含有α,β-エチレン性不飽和単量体単位に加えて、これらと共重合可能なその他の単量体の単位を含有するものであってもよい。
  このような共重合可能な他の単量体としては、アクリロニトリル以外のα,β-エチレン性不飽和ニトリル単量体、1,3-ブタジエン以外の共役ジエン、非共役ジエン、α-オレフィン、芳香族ビニル、α,β-エチレン性不飽和モノカルボン酸エステル、フルオロオレフィン、共重合性老化防止剤等が挙げられる。
  アクリロニトリル以外のα,β-エチレン性不飽和ニトリル単量体としては、メタクリロニトリル、α-クロロアクリロニトリル等が挙げられる。
  1,3-ブタジエン以外の共役ジエンとしては、イソプレン、2,3-ジメチル-1,3-ブタジエン、1,3-ペンタジエン等が挙げられる。
  非共役ジエンとしては、1,4-ペンタジエン、1,4-ヘキサジエン等が挙げられる。
  α-オレフィンとしては、エチレン、プロピレン、1-ブテン、4-メチル-1-ペンテン、1-ヘキセン、1-オクテン等が挙げられる。
  芳香族ビニルとしては、スチレンおよび炭素数8~18のスチレン誘導体が挙げられ、スチレン誘導体の具体例としてはα-メチルスチレン、ビニルピリジン等が挙げられる。
  α,β-エチレン性不飽和モノカルボン酸エステルとしては、α,β-エチレン性不飽和モノカルボン酸と炭素数1~12の脂肪族アルコールとのエステル体が挙げられ、その具体例としては、(メタ)アクリル酸メチル〔アクリル酸メチルおよび/またはメタクリル酸メチルを意味する。以下、同様。〕、(メタ)アクリル酸ブチル、(メタ)アクリル酸メトキシエチル、(メタ)アクリル酸トリフルオロエチル、(メタ)アクリル酸テトラフルオロプロピル等が挙げられる。
  フルオロオレフィンとしては、炭素数2~12の不飽和フッ素化合物が挙げられ、その具体例としては、ジフルオロエチレン、テトラフルオロエチレン、フルオロエチルビニルエーテル、フルオロプロピルビニルエーテル、o-トリフルオロメチルスチレン、ペンタフルオロ安息香酸ビニル等が挙げられる。
  共重合性老化防止剤の具体例としては、N-(4-アニリノフェニル)アクリルアミド、N-(4-アニリノフェニル)メタクリルアミド、N-(4-アニリノフェニル)シンナムアミド、N-(4-アニリノフェニル)クロトンアミド、N-フェニル-4-(3-ビニルベンジルオキシ)アニリン、N-フェニル-4-(4-ビニルベンジルオキシ)アニリン等が挙げられる。
  また、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスを構成する、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体としては、1,3-ブタジエン単位に由来する炭素-炭素二重結合が水素化された水素化アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体であってもよい。水素化アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のヨウ素価は、120以下であり、好ましくは100以下、より好ましくは80以下、特に好ましくは60以下である。
  アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスは、上述の単量体を共重合し、必要に応じて、得られる共重合体中の炭素-炭素二重結合を水素添加することによって得られる。重合方法は、特に限定されず公知の乳化重合法や溶液重合法によればよいが、工業的生産性の観点から乳化重合法が好ましい。乳化重合に際しては、乳化剤、重合開始剤、分子量調整剤等の通常用いられる重合副資材を使用することができる。
  アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスは、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体または水素化アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体を有機溶剤に溶解し、乳化剤等を含む水相と混合して乳化を行い、その後有機溶剤を除去する方法で製造することもできる。
  また、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物は、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体に加えて、接着剤樹脂をさらに含有した組成物および、または加硫助剤(架橋助剤)をさらに含有した組成物であることが好ましい。
  接着剤樹脂としては、各種フェノール類-ホルムアルデヒド類の縮合物(例えばレゾルシン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合物、モノヒドロキシベンゼン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合物、クロロフェノール-ホルムアルデヒド縮合物、レゾルシン-モノヒドロキシベンゼン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合物、レゾルシン-クロロフェノール-ホルムアルデヒド縮合物、一塩化イオウとレゾルシンの縮合物およびレゾルシン-ホルマリン縮合物との混合物などの変性レゾルシン-ホルマリン樹脂)、メラミン樹脂、エポキシ樹脂およびイソシアネート樹脂を好適に使用することができるが、中でもレゾルシン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合物が好ましい。レゾルシン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合物は、公知のもの(たとえば、特開昭55-142635号公報に開示のもの)が使用できる。レゾルシンとホルムアルデヒドとの反応比率は、「レゾルシン:ホルムアルデヒド」のモル比で、通常、1:1~1:5、好ましくは1:1~1:3である。
  接着剤樹脂は、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体100重量部に対して、乾燥重量基準で、好ましくは5~30重量部、より好ましくは8~20重量部の割合にて配合することが好ましい。
  加硫助剤(架橋助剤)としては、p-キノンジオキシム等のキノンジオキシム;ラウリルメタクリレートやメチルメタクリレート等のメタクリル酸エステル;TAC(トリアリルシアヌレート)、TAIC(トリアリルイソシアヌレート)等のアリル化合物;ビスマレイミド、フェニルマレイミド、N,N-m-フェニレンジマレイミド、4,4'-ジフェニルメタンビスマレイミド、ビスフェノールAジフェニルエーテルビスマレイミド、3,3'-ジメチル-5,5'-ジエチル-4,4'-ジフェニルメタンビスマレイミド、N,N'-(4-メチル-1,3-フェニレン)ビス(マレインイミド)等のマレイミド化合物;DAF(ジアリルフマレート)、DAP(ジアリルフタレート)、ジアリルマレエート、ジアリルセバケート、トリアリルホスフェートなどの多価酸のアリルエステル;ジエチレングリコールビスアリルカーボネート;エチレングリコールジアリルエーテル、トリメチロールプロパンのトリアリルエーテル、ペンタエリトリットの部分的アリルエーテルなどのアリルエーテル類;アリル化ノボラック、アリル化レゾール樹脂等のアリル変性樹脂;トリメチロールプロパントリメタクリレートやトリメチロールプロパントリアクリレートなどの、3~5官能のメタクリレート化合物やアクリレート化合物;芳香族または脂肪族の有機ジイソシアネート;ポリイソシアネート;芳香族ニトロソ化合物;硫黄;等を挙げることができる。
  加硫助剤(架橋助剤)は、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体100重量部に対して、乾燥重量基準で、好ましくは1~100重量部、より好ましくは10~80重量部の割合にて配合することが好ましい。
  また、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物は過酸化物を含有していてもよい。
  また、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物は、ブロックドイソシアネート、カルボジイミド基を含む化合物、オキサゾリン基を含む化合物、ポリアミン類、エチレンイミン重合体、ビスアリルナジイミド、などの各種硬化剤を含有していてもよい。
  また、アクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体のラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物はカーボンブラックを含有していてもよい。また可塑剤、老化防止剤等のゴム、ラテックス分野で用いられる各種配合剤を含有していてもよい。
  図1に示す歯付ベルト10は、たとえば、以下の方法により製造される。
  すなわち、まず、上述したアクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体などのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物などの、合成ゴムのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物に、基材繊維を浸漬させ、基材繊維の表面および内部にバインダー組成物を付着させ、必要に応じて乾燥させる。例えばガラス繊維の場合、フィラメントを200本程度収束させたガラス繊維を3本程度引きそろえて、上述したアクリロニトリル-ブタジエン共重合体などのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物などに浸漬させ、乾燥する。さらにこのガラス繊維を下撚りし、さらに11本程度引き揃えて上撚りをかける。この結果、コード状の基材繊維の表面および内部に被覆膜が形成されてなる心線30を得る。なお、心線30は、最表面にゴムラテックス組成物および、またはゴム組成物を有機溶剤に溶解させた組成物に浸漬し、必要に応じ、水および、または有機溶剤を除去してあるものであってもよい。次いで、得られた心線30を、歯部20および背部40を形成するためのゴム材料に埋設させ、また同時に歯部20の表面に基布50を重ねることで複合成形体を得る。そして、得られた複合成形体を加熱・加圧することにより歯部20および背部40を形成するためのゴム材料を架橋させることで、さらには、これと同時に、心線30および基布50と、歯部20および背部40を形成するためのゴム材料とを架橋接着させることで、複合体架橋物とすることができる。また、この際において、バインダー組成物の組成次第では心線30中の被覆膜中に含まれる成分の架橋も進行する。なお、基布50としては、たとえば、基布状の基材繊維を用いることができる。また基布50は、通常、レゾルシン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合物を含むゴムラテックスからなる水系組成物および、または架橋性ゴム組成物(必要に応じフェノール樹脂などの接着剤を含む)を有機溶剤に溶解させたゴム糊が塗布され、水およびまたは有機溶剤が乾燥により除去された物が用いられる。
  次いで、図1に示す補強ゴムの一例としての歯付ベルト10を参照し、本発明の補強ゴムの評価方法について説明を行う。
  本発明の補強ゴムの評価方法は、心線30を構成する基材繊維の含有割合が60重量%以上となるように、心線30を抜き出す工程と、抜き出した心線30に対して、パルス法NMRを用いて、心線30を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜の測定を行う工程と、を備えるものである。
  本発明の補強ゴムの評価方法によれば、上記構成を採用することにより、心線30を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜の特性を適切に評価できるものである。特に、歯付ベルト10のような補強ゴムにおいては、被覆膜により、基材繊維と、ゴム材料からなるゴムマトリックスとの接着を確保するものであること、そのため、歯付ベルト10のような補強ゴムにおいては、被覆膜の特性を評価することは、補強ゴムの特性を評価する上で非常に重要であることに着目し、本発明者等は本発明を完成させるに至ったものである。
  以下、具体的に、本発明の評価方法について説明を行う。
  本発明の補強ゴムの評価方法においては、まず、歯付ベルト10から、心線30を抜き出す。本発明においては、心線30を抜き出す際には、抜き出した心線30(以下、「抜き出し心線30’」とする。)中に含まれる基材繊維の割合が60重量%以上、好ましくは65~90重量%、より好ましくは70~85重量%となるように抜き出しを行う。抜き出し心線30’中の基材繊維の割合が少なすぎると、抜き出し心線30’中には、被覆膜成分に加えて、背部40を構成するゴム材料が比較的多く含まれてしまうこととなるため、被覆膜成分の特性を適切に評価できなくなってしまう。
  抜き出し心線30’中に含まれる基材繊維の割合は、たとえば、基材繊維がガラス繊維などの無機材料からなる繊維である場合には、抜き出し心線30’について、灰分測定を行い、灰分量を測定することにより求めることができる。すなわち、この場合には、抜き出し心線30’の灰分量が、好ましくは60重量%以上、より好ましくは60重量%超、さらに好ましくは63重量%以上、さらにより好ましくは65重量%超、90重量%以下、特に好ましくは70重量%超、85重量%以下となるように抜き出しを行えばよい。灰分量は、たとえば、抜き出し心線30’を空気中700℃で10分間以上保持する条件で加熱した際の残留重量から算出することができる。
  また、基材繊維が炭素繊維である場合や、ナイロン、アラミドなどの有機材料からなる繊維である場合には、抜き出し心線30’中に含まれる基材繊維の割合は、抜き出し心線30’の長さ方向と垂直な面の切断面について画像解析を行うことにより、測定することができる。一例を挙げると、原子間力顕微鏡による測定を行い、弾性率の相違により、基材繊維成分と、それ以外の成分(主として、被覆膜成分)とを分離し、これらの割合を画像解析により求めることで、抜き出し心線30’中に含まれる基材繊維の割合を測定することができる。
  なお、歯付ベルト10から、抜き出し心線30’を得る方法としては、特に限定されないが、背部40中から、もしくは心線30’の長さ方向と垂直な面の切断面から、心線30を削り出す方法や、機械的に引き抜くなどの方法などが挙げられる。たとえば、心線30を削り出す方法においては、基材繊維の割合が60重量%以上となるような条件で削り出しを行えばよい。
  次いで、得られた抜き出し心線30’について、パルス法NMR測定を行うことで、抜き出し心線30’中に含まれる被覆膜成分の評価を行う。本発明においては、抜き出し心線30’を得る際に、基材繊維の割合が60重量%以上となるように抜き出しを行うため、得られる抜き出し心線30’は、背部40および歯部20を構成するゴム材料がほとんど含まない状態であり、そのため、このような抜き出し心線30’を用いることで、補強ゴムの特性に影響を与える心線界面付近の被覆膜成分を適切に評価できるものである。
  パルス法NMRによれば、基材繊維に付着した被覆膜成分の緩和時間、具体的には、縦緩和時間(T、スピン-格子緩和時間)および回転系の縦緩和時間(T1ρ、回転系のスピン-格子緩和時間)および横緩和時間(T、スピン-スピン緩和時間)を測定することができる。これに対し、本発明においては、これらのうち、分子運動と直接関係したスピン-スピン緩和時間Tについて、基材繊維に付着した被覆膜成分を評価するものである。具体的には、分子運動性が異なる2以上の成分、すなわちスピン-スピン緩和時間Tが異なる3成分を、分子運動性が低い方から順に、TS成分、TM成分、TL成分に分け、これらTS成分、TM成分、TL成分の比率、および各成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間TS、TM、TLから、基材繊維に付着した被覆膜成分を評価するものである。具体的には、TS成分、TM成分、TL成分の成分分率、および各成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間TS、TM、TLから、基材繊維に付着した被覆膜成分の架橋度などを評価するものである。スピン-スピン緩和時間Tが異なる成分として3成分の場合を例として挙げたが、これに限定されるものではない。
  パルス法NMRは公知の方法を用いることができ、ソリッドエコー法、ハーンエコー法、CPMG法などを用いることができる。これらは単独で用いてもよいし、組み合わせても用いてもよい。観察された自由誘導減衰曲線(FID)からスピン-スピン緩和時間Tを異なる各成分に分離することができ、また各成分の成分比率およびスピン-スピン緩和時間Tを求めることができる。
  たとえば、TM成分の成分分率が高いほど、および、またはTM成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間TMが短いほど、被覆膜成分中のゴムラテックスから乾燥して得られたゴムの架橋度は高いものと評価することができる。そのため、たとえば、使用前の状態の歯付ベルト10と、使用開始後所定時間経過後の歯付ベルト10とについて、本発明の評価方法による評価を行い、TMの値を比較することで、架橋度の変化などを求めることができ、これにより劣化度を評価することができる。また、TM成分の成分分率は、被覆膜成分を構成する架橋物の分子鎖の動き易さをも示すものであるため、たとえば、歯付ベルト10が油中ベルトである場合には、使用後の歯付ベルト10について、本発明の評価方法による評価を行うことで、被覆膜の膨潤挙動を評価することができる。具体的には、TM成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間Tが長いほど、被覆膜成分を構成する架橋物の分子鎖は動き易い状態にあり、膨潤度は高いものと評価することができる。
  また、TS成分の成分分率が高いほど、分子運動性が低い成分、すなわちレゾルシン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合体など接着剤樹脂成成分や、ゴムラテックスから乾燥して得られたゴムの架橋度が極めて高い部分が多いと評価することができ、TL成分の成分分率が高いほど、分子運動性が高い成分、すなわち可塑剤や各種潤滑油などの成分、またはゴムラテックスから乾燥して得られたゴムの分子末端成分が多いと評価することができる。
  以上、本発明の評価方法について、図1に示す歯付ベルト10を例示して説明したが、図1に示す歯付ベルト10に特に限定されるものではなく、本発明の評価方法は、基材繊維の表面および内部に被覆膜が付着してなる心線が、ゴム材料中に埋設されてなる補強ゴムであれば何でも評価の対象とすることができるものである。
  以下に、実施例および比較例を挙げて、本発明についてより具体的に説明するが、本発明はこの実施例に限られるものではない。以下において、特記しない限り、「部」は重量基準である。物性および特性の試験または評価方法は以下のとおりである。
  抜き出した心線中の灰分量
  歯付きベルトから抜き出した心線に含まれる基材繊維に付着しているゴム成分(被覆膜成分および架橋ゴム成分)の付着量を評価するため、抜き出した心線の灰分量、および歯付きベルトの歯部を構成する架橋ゴムの灰分量を以下のようにして測定した。
  具体的には、抜き出した心線および歯部を構成する架橋ゴムを、熱重量測定装置を用いて、炉内を窒素雰囲気下で、昇温速度20℃/分で、30℃から550℃まで温度上昇させ、550℃で15分間保持した。その後、降温速度20℃/分で、350℃まで温度を低下させた。続いて、炉内を窒素雰囲気下から空気雰囲気下に切り替え、昇温速度10℃/分で700℃まで温度上昇させ、700℃で10分間保持した。そして、この時点における残存重量を測定し、残存重量より、下記式にしたがって灰分量(単位は、重量%)を求めた。
    灰分量(重量%)=(残存重量(g)/測定前の重量(g))×100
  また、灰分を構成する成分のうち、心線に含まれる基材繊維に由来するものの量は、90.0~99.9重量%程度と評価することができる。
  パルスNMR測定
  歯付きベルトから抜き出した心線に含まれる基材繊維に付着しているゴム成分(被覆膜成分および架橋ゴム成分)について、パルスNMR測定装置を用いて、以下の条件にてパルスNMR測定を行った。
    測定核:
    パルスモード:ソリッドエコー法(90°x-τ-90°y)
    パルス幅:2.0μm
    パルス間隔:8.0μm
    積算回数:8回
    測定温度:150℃
  そして、測定により得られた自由誘導減衰(FID)を、以下の式に基づき、非線形最小二乗法にてカーブフィッティングを行い、各成分(i)の成分分率および各成分のスピン―スピン緩和時間(T2)を、下記式から求めた。

  上記式中、Wはワイブル係数であり、1から2の値を取る。
  また、各T2成分(TS、TM、TL)の成分分率Fは次式で求められる。

  実施例1
  歯付きベルト(自動車用油中タイミングベルト、FORD  ECOBoostエンジン用、型番:E3BG  6K288AA)について、削り出しを行うことで、ガラス繊維から構成される心線(バインダー組成物はレゾルシン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合体を含まず、加硫助剤等を含む組成物)抜き出した。この際、抜き出した心線の外側には極力、架橋ゴム部分が付着しないように抜き出した。そして、抜き出した心線について、上記方法にしたがって、灰分量の測定、およびパルスNMR測定を行った。また、比較として、同じ歯付きベルトの歯部から、明らかに架橋ゴムからのみから構成されている部分を切り出し、上記方法にしたがって、灰分量の測定、およびパルスNMR測定を行った。
  パルスNMR測定の結果、抜き出した心線、および、歯部を構成する架橋ゴムのいずれも、分子運動性が異なる3成分、すなわちスピン-スピン緩和時間Tが異なる3成分に分離することができ、これら3成分を、分子運動性が低い方から順に、TS成分、TM成分、TL成分とし、それぞれのスピン-スピン緩和時間Tおよび成分比率を求めた。表1に、灰分量の測定結果、ならびに、TS成分、TM成分、TL成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間Tおよび成分比率を表1に示す。
  実施例2
  歯付きベルト(自動車用タイミングベルト、三菱自動車用、型番:MFMB2019、心線はガラス繊維から構成される心線、心線のバインダー組成物はレゾルシン-ホルムアルデヒド縮合体を含む組成物)を用いたこと以外は実施例1と同様にして評価を行った。
  パルスNMR測定の結果、抜き出した心線(バインダー組成物はレゾルシン-ホルムアルデヒド樹脂を含む組成物)については、分子運動性が異なる2成分、すなわちスピン-スピン緩和時間Tが異なる2成分に分離することができ、これら2成分を、分子運動性が低い方から順に、TS成分、TM成分とし、それぞれのスピン-スピン緩和時間Tおよび成分比率を求めた。
  また、パルスNMR測定の結果、歯部を構成する架橋ゴムについては、分子運動性が異なる2成分、すなわちスピン-スピン緩和時間Tが異なる2成分に分離することができ、これら2成分を、分子運動性が低い方から順に、TM成分、TL成分とし、それぞれのスピン-スピン緩和時間Tおよび成分比率を求めた。
  表1に、灰分量の測定結果、ならびに、TS成分、TM成分、TL成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間Tおよび成分比率を表1に示す。
  比較例1
  歯付きベルト(自動車用油中タイミングベルト、FORD  ECOBoostエンジン用、型番:E3BG  6K288AA)から、ガラス繊維から構成される心線を抜き出す際に、架橋ゴム部分が相当量付着した状態で抜き出した以外は、実施例1と同様にして評価を行った。なお、歯部を構成する架橋ゴムについては、実施例1と同様と同様の結果が得られることは明らかであるため、歯部を構成する架橋ゴムについては、測定を行わなかった。
  パルスNMR測定の結果、抜き出した心線については、分子運動性が異なる3成分、すなわちスピン-スピン緩和時間Tが異なる3成分に分離することができ、これら3成分を、分子運動性が低い方から順に、TS成分、TM成分、TL成分とし、それぞれのスピン-スピン緩和時間Tおよび成分比率を求めた。表1に、灰分量の測定結果、ならびに、TS成分、TM成分、TL成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間Tおよび成分比率を表1に示す。

  表1より、実施例1、実施例2においては、抜き出した心線の灰分量が、それぞれ、77.8重量%(実施例1)、79.5重量%(実施例2)であり、いずれも、基材繊維であるガラス繊維の含有量が60重量%以上である状態で抜き出されたものであった。そして、実施例1、実施例2においては、抜き出した心線と、歯部を構成する架橋ゴムとで、パルスNMR測定の結果得られたTS成分、TM成分、TL成分の成分分率が明らかに異なるものであり、そのため、実施例1、実施例2においては、抜き出した心線のパルスNMR測定により、基材繊維であるガラス繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜を適切に測定できているものと評価することができる。
  一方、比較例1においては、抜き出した心線の灰分量が27.2重量%と低く、基材繊維であるガラス繊維の含有量が60重量%未満である状態で抜き出されたものであった。そして、比較例1においては、抜き出した心線と、歯部を構成する架橋ゴムとで、パルスNMR測定の結果得られたTS成分、TM成分、TL成分の成分分率が同様となっており、そのため、基材繊維であるガラス繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜を適切に測定できていないものと評価できる。

Claims (8)

  1.   基材繊維の表面および内部に被覆膜が付着してなる心線が、ゴム材料中に埋設されてなる補強ゴムを評価する方法であって、
      前記補強ゴムから、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の含有割合が60重量%以上となるように、前記心線を抜き出す第1工程と、
      抜き出した前記心線に対して、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜の測定を行う第2工程と、を備えることを特徴とする補強ゴムの評価方法。
  2.   前記第1工程において、前記心線を抜き出す際に、前記心線中における灰分量が60重量%以上となるように、前記心線を抜き出すことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の補強ゴムの評価方法。
  3.   前記補強ゴムが、前記基材繊維に、合成ゴムのラテックスを含有するバインダー組成物を付着させることで被覆膜を形成する工程と、前記被覆膜を形成した前記基材繊維を、前記ゴム材料中に埋設させた状態で、前記ゴム材料と接着させる工程とを経て得られたものであることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の補強ゴムの評価方法。
  4.   前記基材繊維が、ガラス繊維であることを特徴とする請求項1~3のいずれかに記載の補強ゴムの評価方法。
  5.  前記第2工程において、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分の緩和時間の測定を行い、測定した緩和時間に基づいて、前記被覆膜成分の評価を行う請求項1~4のいずれかに記載の補強ゴムの評価方法。
  6.  前記第2工程において、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間の測定を行うことで、測定したスピン-スピン緩和時間に基づいて、前記被覆膜成分の評価を行う請求項5に記載の補強ゴムの評価方法。
  7.  前記第2工程において、パルス法NMRを用いて、前記心線を構成する基材繊維の表面および内部に付着した被覆膜成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間の測定を行い、測定したスピン-スピン緩和時間を、スピン-スピン緩和時間が異なる2以上の成分に分け、異なる2以上の各成分の比率、および異なる2以上の各成分のスピン-スピン緩和時間に基づいて、前記被覆膜成分の評価を行う請求項6に記載の補強ゴムの評価方法。
  8.   前記補強ゴムが油中ベルトまたは空中ベルトであることを特徴とする請求項1~7のいずれかに記載の補強ゴムの評価方法。
