Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a technology of a projection-type image display device, and particularly to a technology effective when applied to a projection-type image display device that projects an image using a plurality of light sources.
  • a white light source is used as a light source for projecting an image on a screen.
  • projectors provided with light sources of three colors (red, green, and blue) have been provided.
  • Patent Document 1 Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2010-197497 includes light emitting devices corresponding to the respective colors (red, green, and blue). In each light emitting device, the phosphor layer is irradiated with excitation light. Thus, a projector is disclosed that emits light of each color (red, green, and blue) and uses white light synthesized from the light of each color as a light source for projection.
  • a cooling unit for cooling the light source is provided inside the projector.
  • the cooling performance of the cooling unit generally changes depending on the installation orientation of the projector. In the case of a white light source, a change in cooling performance of the cooling unit leads to a decrease in image brightness. Furthermore, if a plurality of light sources are provided, a plurality of cooling units are required. At this time, if the cooling performance of the cooling unit varies due to changes in the installation posture of the projector, the balance of the light emission amounts of the light sources deteriorates and the color balance of the projected image is disturbed. In this situation, in order to adjust to the correct color balance according to the light emission amount of the light source whose cooling state is most deteriorated, it is necessary to reduce the output of the other light source, leading to a reduction in the brightness of the projected image of the projector.
  • an object of the present invention is to provide a projector that can more appropriately cool a plurality of light sources and project a more suitable image.
