【발명의 배경이 되는 기술】
화석 연료를 사용하여 대량의 온실 가스 및 환경 오염 문제를 야기하 는 화력 발전이나 시설 자체의 안정성이나 폐기물 처리의 문제점을 갖는 원 자력 발전 등의 기존 발전 시스템들이 다양한 한계점을 들어내면서 보다 친 환경적이고 높은 효율을 갖는 에너지의 개발과 이를 이용한 전력 공급 시스 템의 개발에 대한 연구가 크게 증가하고 있다.
특히, 전력 저장 기술은 외부 조건에 큰 영향을 받는 재생 에너지를 보다 다양하고 넓게 이용할 수 있도록 하며 전력 이용의 효율을 보다 높일 수 있어서, 이러한 기술 분야에 대한 개발이 집중되고 있으며, 이들 중 2차 전지에 대한 관심 및 연구 개발이 크게 증가하고 있는 실정이다.
레독스 흐름 전지는 활성 물질의 화학적 에너지를 직접 전기 에너지 로 전환할 수 있는 산화 /환원 전지를 의미하며, 태양광, 풍력등 외부 환경 에 따라 출력변동성이 심한 신재생에너지를 저장하여 고품질 전력으로 변환
할 수 있는 에너지 저장시스템이다. 구체적으로, 레독스 흐름 전지에서는 산화 /환원 반웅을 일으키는 활물질을 포함한 전해액이 반대 전극과 저장 탱 크 사이를 순환하며 충방전이 진행된다.
이러한 레독스 흐름 전지는 기본적으로 산화상태가 각각 다른 활물질 이 저장된 탱크와 충 /방전시 활물질을 순환시키는 펌프, 그리고 분리막으로 분획되는 단위셀을 포함하며, 상기 단위셀은 전극, 전해질 및 분리막을 포 함한다.
레독스 흐름 전지의 ¾리막은 충전 방전시 양극과 음극전해질에 반웅 되어 생성되는 이온의 이동을 통해 전류의 흐름을 발생시키는 핵심소재이다. 현재 레독스 흐름 전지에는 리튬 전지 등의 다른 2차.전지용 분리막을 사용 하는 것이 일반적이나, 이러한 이전의 분리막은 양극과 음극 전해액 간의 이온의 크로스 오버를 발생시키고 전지의 에너지밀도를 저하시키며 브롬에 대한 내성이 충분하지 않아서 전지의 수명을 충분히 확보하기 어려운 한계 를 가지고 있다.
미국등록특허 제 4190707호나 한국등록특허 제 1042931호에는 알칼라인 전지 또는 이차전지용 미세다공성 분리막이 개시되어 있으나, 이러한 종래 의 다공성 분리막은 레독스 흐름 전지에서 요구되는 양극과 음극 전해액 간 의 이온의 크로스 오버를 방지할 수 있는 특성이나 브롬에 대한 내성을 확 보할 수 있는 방법에 대해서는 제시하고 있지 않다.

【과제의 해결 수단】
본 명세서에서는, 폴리올레핀계 수지를 포함한 다공성 고분자 기재층; 및 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 형성되고, 바인더 수지 및 친수성 실리카 입자를 포함한 코팅층;을 포함하고, 상기 코팅층에는 10 urn 내지 500 ηηι의 평균 직경을 갖는 미세 기공이 형성된 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐 름 전지의 다공성 분리막이 제공된다.
본 명세서에서는 또한, 폴리올레핀계 수지를 포함한 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 바인더 수지 친수성 실리카 입자 및 친수성 고분 자를 포함한 수지 조성물을 코팅하는 단계; 및 상기 친수성 고분자를 제거 하는 단계;를 포함하는 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막의 제 조 방법이 제공된다.
본 명세서에서는 또한, 상기 다공성 분리막을 포함하는 아연 -브롬 레 독스 흐름 전지가 제공된다.
이하 발명의 구체적인 구현예에 따른 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막. 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막의 제조 방법 및 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지에 대하여 보다 상세하게 설명하기로 한다. 발명의 일 구현예에 따르면, 폴리올레핀계 수지를 포함한 다공성 고 분자 기재층; 및 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 형성되고, 바 인더 수지 및 친수성 실리카 입자를 포함한 코팅층;을 포함하고, 상기 코팅 층에는 10 nm 내지 500 ηπι의 평균 직경을 갖는 미세 기공이 형성된 아연-브 름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막이 제공될 수 있다.
본 발명자들은 상술한 특정의 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막을 이용하면, 코팅층에 균일하게 형성된 미세 기공으로 인해, Zn 이 온과 Br 이온을 선택적으로 투과시킬 수 있으면서. 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 충전시 생성되는 Br2가 음극으로 쉽게 넘어가는 현상 및 반웅물질이 기공 내에 침척되는 현상 등을 방지하여 전지의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다는
점을 실험을 통하여 확인하고 발명을 완성하였다.
특히, 코팅충에 포함된 실리카 입자는 친수성을 갖는 작용기를 통해, 코팅층 내부에서 성분간의 분산이나 흔합 용융을 원활하게 하며, 제조되는 코팅층에 보다 균일하게 기공이 분산될 수 있게 하고, 기공의 크기를 용이 하게 조절할 수 있도록 한다.
또한, 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지 구동 시 형성된 아연 덴드라이트 (Zn dendr i te)가 분리막 표면에 직접 층돌하는 것을 보호하거나, 전지 구동 시 전해액의 유압으로부터 분리막을 보호함으로서, 분리막의 천공을 방지하 여 내구성을 향상시킬 수 있다.
그리고, 상기 코팅층은 기재층 상에 얇은 두께로 고르게 코팅되며, 기재층에 대해 강한 결합력을 통해 전지 구동 중 내구성을 확보할 수 있으 며. 코팅충에 포함된 성분들이 친수성을 가짐에 따라, 아연 -브롬 전해액에 대한 흡습성이 높아, 분리막에 의한 저항을 최소화하면서 우수한 전지 효율 을 구현할 수 있다.
이하에서는, 상기 일 구현예의 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막에 대해 보다 구체적으로 설명하기로 한다. 코팅층
상기 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막은 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 형성되고, 바인더 수지 및 친수성 실리카 입자를 포함한 코팅층을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 코팅층에는 10 nm 내지 500 nm , 또는 30 ηηι 내지 300 πηι , 또는 50 ηηι 내지 100 nm의 평균 직경을 갖는 미세 기공이 형성될 수 있다. 상기 미 세 기공의 평균 직경이란, 상기 코팅층에 포함된 기공 직경의 평균값으로, 구체적인 측정방법의 예로는 0.5 내지 60 , 000 psi압력 및 150°C 온도에서 두 시간 동안 전처리 후, PorosimeteKMicromer i t i cs , Autopore IV 9500)를 이용하여 측정하는 방법을 들 수 있다ᅳ
상기 코팅층에 포함된 기공의 평균 직경이 500 nm 초과로 지나치게 증가하면, 최종 제조되는 다공성 분리막의 기공 사이즈가 과도하게 커져서 전해액의 Br2 크로스오버가 발생할 수 있으며 , 이는 전지의 성능의 감소로
이어질 수 있다.
또한, 상기 코팅충에 포함된 기공의 평균 직경이 지나치게 감소하면, 분리막의 저항이 과도하게 높아짐에 따라, 상기 분리막을 적용한 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 에너지효율 (전압효율)이 감소할 수 있다.
상기 코팅층에 기공을 형성하는 방법의 예가 크게 한정되는 것은 아 니나. 후술하는 바와 같이, 코팅층에 포함된 친수성 고분자를 용매를 이용 하여 제거하는 방법을 사용할 수 있다. 상기 친수성 고분자의 예로는 폴리 알킬렌 옥사이드 화합물 등을 들 수 있다.
이에 따라, 상기 코팅층에 포함된 폴리알킬렌 옥사이드 화합물 등의 친수성 고분자 함량은 1중량 % 미만일 수 있다. 상기 1증량 %는, 실제 함량이 미미하거나 실질적으로 존재하지 않는 함량을 의미할 수 있다.
상기 코팅층의 두께는 0 . 1 m 내지 50 η , 또는 1 JMII 내지 10 일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 기재충 두께 100 에 대하여, 코팅층의 두께가 0 . 1 /mi 내지 5 ^ηι , 또는 0. 5 //m 내지 2 /m일 수 있다. 이에 따라, 상기 분리막 에 의한 저항을 최소화하면서 우수한 전지 효율을 구현할 수 있다.
상기 코팅충의 두께가 기재층에 비해 지나치게 얇아지면, 코팅층에 의한 외부 충격으로부터의 보호효과가 충분히 구현되지 못해, 최종 제조되 는 다공성 분리막에 천공이 발생할 수 있다. 또한 상기 코팅층의 두께가 기재층에 비해 지나치게 두꺼워질 경우, 상기 코팅충에 의해 분리막의 저항 이 증가하여 전지효율이 감소할 수 있다.
상기 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막은 다공성 고분자 기재층 및 코팅층을 각각 1이상 포함할 수 있다. 상기 다공성 고분자 기재 층의 적어도 일 면에는 상기 코팅충이 형성될 수 있으며, 상기 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막은 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층을 1이상 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 다층 폴리에스테르 시트는 1개의 다공성 고분자 기재층 및 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층의 일면 또는 양면에 형성된 코팅층을 포함할 수 있고. 또한 2개 이상의 다공성 고분자 기재층 및 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층들 중 이웃하는 다공성 고분자 기재층 사이에 위치하 는 코팅층을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 코팅층은 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 형성될 수 있
다. 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면이란, 상기 다공성 고분자 기 재층의 일면 또는 양면을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 코팅층은 바인더 수지 및 친수성 실리카 입자를 포함할 수 있다ᅳ 상기 바인더 수지는 레독스 흐름 전지의 분리막에 포함된 코팅층에서 기재의 역할을 하여, 코팅층이 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층과 결합할 수 있 도록 할 뿐만 아니라, 바인더 수지 내에 복수의 미세 기공이 형성되어 충전 방전시 양극과 음극전해질에 반웅되어 생성되는 이온의 이동을 통해 전류의 흐름을 발생시킬 수 있다.
상기 바인더 수지는, 당해 업계에서 공지된 모든 바인더들일 수 있고. 구체적으로는, 폴리불화비닐리덴 (polyvinyl idene fluoride, PVDF) 또는 폴 리테트라플루오로에틸렌 (Polytetrafluoroethylene, PTFE)을 포함하는 불소 수지계 바인더 , 스티렌-부타디엔 고무, 아크릴로니트릴-부티디엔 고무, 스 티렌-이소프렌 고무를 포함하는 고무계 바인더 카르복시메틸셀를로우즈 (CMC) , 전분, 히드록시프로필셀를로우즈, 재생 셀롤로우즈를 포함하는 셀를 로오스계 바인더, 폴리 알코올계 바인더, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌를 포함 하는 폴리 올레핀계 바인더, 폴리 이미드계 바인더, 폴리 에스테르계 바인 더 홍합 접착제, 실란계 바인더로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 하나 또는 2 종 이상의 바인더들의 혼합물이거나 공중합체일 수 있다.
보다 구체적으로, 상기 바인더 수지는 폴리에테르술폰 (PES), 셀를로 오스계 고분자, 폴리아마이드계 고분자, 폴리술폰 (PSf), 폴리에테르케톤 (PEK) , 폴리에테르에테르케톤 (PEEK), 폴리비닐라이덴 플로라이드 (PVDF), 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 (PTFE), 폴리아크릴로니트릴 (PAN), 폴리비닐클로 라이드 (PVC) 및 폴리비닐라이덴 클로라이드 (PVDC)으로 이루어진 군에서 선 택된 1종 이상을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 친수성 실리카 입자는 최종 제조되는 다공성 분리막와 내부로 전해액의 분리보다 용이하게 침투할 수 있도록 할 수 있다. 상기 실리카 입 자는 규소 원자와 산소 원자의 결합인 실록산 구조를 포함할 수 있으며, 상 기 실록산 구조에서는 규소 원자와 결합한 유기기의 개수에 따라 1관능성 (mono functional , Μ) , 2관능성 (di funct ional , - D), 3관능성 (tr i funct ional, T), 4관능성 (quadri functional, Q)으로 표시되는 4가지 소단위를 포함할 수
있다.
상기 친수성 실리카 입자는 건식 실리카를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 건 식 실리카 ( fumed si l i ca)는 고은 ( llCXrc )에서 사염화 실란 (SiCl4)을 열분해 하여 얻어진 실리카 또는 실리카를 고온 및 진공하에서 가열하고 이를 차가 운 표면에 증착시키는 방식으로 제조되는 실리카 등을 포함할 수 있으며, 습식 실리카 (Precipi tated s i l i ca)와 구별된다.
상기 친수성 실리카 입자는 최대직경이 10 rim 내지 80卿, 또는 5 내지 50 인 웅집 입자를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 범위의 응집 입자의 최대 직경 하에서 상기 코팅층의 각 성분이 보다 용이하게 흔합되고 제조되는 코팅층에 보다 균일하게 기공이 분산될 수 있게 할 수 있고, 제조되는 코팅 층 저항을 낮출 수 있으며, 브름의 투과도를 낮추어 양극과 음극 전해액 간 의 이은의 크로스 오버 및 전지의 에너지 밀도의 저하 현상을 방지할 수 있 다.
상기 응집 입자의 최대 직경의 평균이 너무 작으면, 상기 친수성 실 리카 입자의 첨가에 따른 효과가 크지 않을 수 있으며, 상기 응집 입자의 최대 직경의 평균이 너무 크면 제조되는 코팅층 저항이 커지거나 브롬의 투 과도가 커져서 크로스 오버 현상이 크게 나타나거나 전지의 에너지 밀도가 저하될 수 있다.
상기 친수성 실리카 입자에 포함되는 웅집 입자는 1 nm 내지 500 iim , 또는 10 nm 내지 400 nm의 직경을 갖는 일차 입자 (pr imary part i c les)를 포 함할 수 있다. 이러한 일차 입자는 실록산 (SIL0XANE)의 삼차원 결합구조로 되어 있고 세공이 없는 구형 형상이고, 상기 일차 입자들이 서로 실록산 결 합에 의하여 뭉치거나 결합하면서 상기 응집 입자 ( Agglomerated part i c le) 을 형성한다.
상기 친수성 실리카 입자에 포함되는 웅집 입자에 포함되는 일차 입 자의 직경이 500 nm 초과이면, 최종 제조되는 다공성 분리막의 기공 사이즈 가 과도하게 커져서 전해액의 Br2 크로스오버가 발생할 수 있으며, 이는 전 지의 성능의 감소로 이어질 수 있다. 또한, 상기 친수성 실리카 입자에 포 함되는 응집 입자에 포함되는 일차 입자의 직경이 10 iim 이하이면, 제조되 는 다공성 분리막의 기공 크기가 작아지고 기공율이 낮아져서 상기 다공성
분리막을 사용하는 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 전압 효율이 낮아질 수 있다.

상기 친수성 건식 실리카는 표면에 친수성 작용기가 결합된 실리카 입자를 포함할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 상기 친수성 실리카 입자는 하이드록 실기, 카르복실기, 에테르기, 설파이드기, 에스테르기, 에록시기, 포스포닐 기, 포스피닐기, 설포닐기, 설피닐기, 설폰산기, 설핀산기, 인산기, 아인산 기, 아미노기, 아미드기 4차 암모늄기 , 및 4차 포스포늄기로 이루어진 군 에서 선택된 1종 이상의 친수성 작용기가 결합된 실리카 입자를 포함할 수 있다.

상기 폴리올레핀계 수지는 레독스 흐름 전지의 분리막에서 기재의 역 할을 하며, 이러한 폴리올레핀 수지의 기재 상에 복수의 미세 기공이 형성
되어 충전 방전시 양극과 음극전해질에 반응되어 생성되는 이온의 이동을 통해 전류의 흐름을 발생하는 장소가 된다.
상기 폴리올레핀계 수지로는 다양한 종류의 폴리올레핀 수지가 큰 제 한 없이 사용될 수 있으며, 예를 들어, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 에틸렌- 프로필렌 공중합체, 에틸렌 -알파올레핀 공증합체 또는 이들의 1종 이상의 흔합물이 사용될 수 있다.
다만, 레독스 흐름 전지에서 사용될 수 있는 브롬 등의 레독스 커플 에 대한 내성과 높은 기계적 물성을 확보하기 위하여, 상기 폴리올레핀계 수지는 1 , 00으 000 내지 7,000,000, 또는 2 , 000 , 000 내지 5,000,000의 중량 평균 분자량을 가질 수 있다. 상기 폴리을레핀계 수지의 중량 평균 분자량 을 측정하는 방법의 예가 크게 한정되는 것은 아니나, 예를 들어, GPC법에 의해 측정한 폴리스티렌 환산의 중량 평균 분자량을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 폴리올레핀계 수지의 중량평균분자량이 너무 낮으면 브롬 등의 레독스 커플에 대한 내성과 기계적 물성이 충분히 확보되지 않을 수 있다. 상기 폴리을레핀계 수지의 중량평균분자량이 너무 높으면, 상기 조성물 상 에서 상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 흔합물 및 미네랄 오일과의 상용성이 낮아질 수 있으며, 제조되는 분리막의 물성이 저하되거 나 기공의 형성이 용이하지 않을 수 있다.
한편 , 상기 다공성 고분자 기재충은 상기 폴리올레핀계 수지에 분산 된 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 혼합물을 더 포함할 수 있 다ᅳ 상기 친수성 건삭 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 흔합물은 상기 폴리 올레핀계 수지의 분산이나 흔합 용융을 원활하게 하며, 제조돠는 분리막에 보다 균일하게 기공이 분산될 수 있게 하며 , 기공의 크기를 용이하게 조절 할 수 있도록 한다.
상기 건식 실리카 ( fumed si l i ca)는 고온 ( 1100°C )에서 사염화 실란
(SiCl4)을 열분해 하여 얻어진 실리카 또는 실리카를 고온 및 진공하에서 가 열하고 이를 차가운 표면에 증착시키는 방식으로 제조되는 실리카 등을 포 함할 수 있으며, 습식 실리카 (Prec ipi tated s i l i ca)와 구별된다.
상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 각각은 최대직 경이 10 nm 내지 80 , 또는 5 卿 내지 50 인 웅집 입자를 포함할 수 있
다. 상기 범위의 웅집 입자의 최대 직경 하에서, 상기 다공성 고분자 기재 층의 각 성분이 보다 용이하게 흔합되고 제조되는 다공성 고분자 기재층에 보다 균일하게 기공이 분산될 수 있게 할 수 있고, 제조되는 다공성 고분자 기재층 저항을 낮출 수 있으며, 브롬의 투과도를 낮추어 양극과 음극 전해 액 간의 이온의 크로스 오버 및 전지의 에너지 밀도의 저하 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
상기 웅집 입자의 최대 직경의 평균이 너무 작으면, 친수성 건식 실 리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 흔합물의 첨가에 따른 효과가 크지 않을 수 있으며, 상기 응집 입자의 최대 직경의 평균이 너무 크면 제조되는 다공성 고분자 기재층 저항이 커지거나 브름의 투과도가 커져서 크로스 오버 현상 이 크게 나타나거나 전지의 에너지 밀도가 저하될 수 있다.
상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 각각에 포함되 는 웅집 입자는 250 nni 내지 500 ηηι , 또는 300 ran 내지 450 nm의 직경을 갖 는 일차 입자 (pr imary part i c les)를 포함할 수 있다. 이러한 일차 입자는 실록산 (SIL0XANE)의 삼차원 결합구조로 되어 있고 세공이 없는 구형 형상이 고, 상기 일차 입자들이 서로 실록산 결합에 의하여 뭉치거나 결합하면서 상기 웅집 입자 (Agglomerated part i cle)을 형성한다.
상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 각각에 포함되 는 웅집 입자에 포함되는 일차 입자의 직경이 500 nm 초과이면, 최종 제조 되는 다공성 분리막의 기공 사이즈가 과도하게 커져서 전해액의 Br2 크로스 오버가 발생할 수 있으며, 이는 전지의 성능의 감소로 이어질 수 있다. 또 한, 상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 각각에 포함되는 웅집 입자에 포함되는 일차 입자의 직경이 250 nm 아하이면, 제조되는 다공 성 고분자기재층의 기공 크기가 작아지고 기공율이 낮아져서 상기 다공성 분리막을 사용하는 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 전압 효율이 낮아질 수 있다.
상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 각각의 BET 비 표면적은 1 m7g 내지 500 m7g 일 수 있다.
구체적으로, 상기 친수성 건식 실리카는 최종 제조되는 다공성 고분 자 기재층의 내부로 전해액의 분리보다 용이하게 침투할 수 있도록 하며,
상기 소수성 건식 실리카는 양극 전해액에 용해된 브롬의 크로스오버 현상 을 최소화 할 수 있다.
상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카 각각을 단독으로 폴 리올레핀계 수지 및 가소제와 흔합하여 제조되는 다공성 고분자 기재층에서 는 10%이상, 또는 50%에 달하는 자가 방전율이 나타나는 문제점이 있다. 상기 다공성 고분자 기재충은 상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건 식 실리카의 흔합물 10 중량 % 내지 60중량 %를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 다공성 고분자 기재층 중 상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 흔합물의 함량이 너무 작으면, 제조되는 다공성 고분자 기재 층의 기공 크기가 작아지고 기공율이 낮아져서 상기 다공성 분리막을 사용 하는 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 전압 효율이 낮아질 수 있다. 또한, 상 기 다공성 고분자 기재층 중 상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리 카의 흔합물의 함량이 너무 높으면, 제조되는 다공성 고분자 기재층의 기공 크기 및 기공율이 과다하게 커져서 상기 다공성 분리막을 사용하는 아연ᅳ브 름 레독스 흐름 전지에서 자가 방전율이 크게 증가할 수 있다.
상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 혼합물은 상기 친 수성 건식 실리카 1 중량 % 내지 30 중량 ¾>와 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 1 중 량% 내지 30 중량 %를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 흔합물에서, 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 대비 상기 친수성 건식 실리카의 중량비가 4 내지 0.2, 또는 2 내지 0.5일 수 있다. 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 대비 상기 친수성 건 식 실리카의 중량비란, 상기 친수성 건식 실리카의 중량을 상기 소수성 건 식 실리카의 중량으로 나눈 값을 의미한다.
상기 소수성 건식 실리카 대비 상기 친수성 건식 실리카의 중량비가 너무 낮으면, 제조되는 다공성 고분자 기재층 내부로 전해액이 침투가 어려 워질 수 있다. 또한, 상기 소수성 건식 실리카 대비 상기 친수성 건식 실리 카의 중량비가 너무 높으면, 양극 전해액에 용해된 브롬의 크로스오버 현상 이 과다하게 발생할 수 있다.
상기 친수성 건식 실리카는 표면에 친수성 작용기가 결합된 건식 실 리카일 수 있다. 구체적으로, 상기 친수성 건식 실리카는 하이드록실기, 카

한편, 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층은 가소제를 더 포함할 수 있다. 상 기 가소제는 1 이하의 비증 및 200cp 이하의 점도를 갖는 미네랄 오일일 수 있다. 상기 미네랄 오일의 점도가 너무 높으면 흔합시 다른 성분과의 상용 성이 저하될 수 있다.
상기 미네랄 오일의 구체적인 예가 한정되는 것은 아니나, 예를 들 어 유동 파라핀이나 파라핀 왁스 등의 탄화수소류, 프탈산디옥틸이나 프탈 산디부틸 등의 에스테르류 등을 사용할 수 있다. 한편, 발명의 다른 구현예에 따르면, 폴리올레핀계 수지를 포함한 다 공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 바인더 수지, 친수성 실리카 입자 및 친수성 고분자를 포함한 수지 조성물을 코팅하는 단계; 및 상기 친수성 고 분자를 제거하는 단계;를 포함하는 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막의 제조 방법이 제공될 수 있다.
구체적으로, 상기 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막의 제 조 방법은 폴리올레핀계 수지를 포함한 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일 면에 바인더 수지, 친수성 실리카 입자 및 친수성 고분자를 포함한 수지 조 성물을 코팅하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다.

상기 친수성 고분자는 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 형성되 는 코팅층에 기공을 형성하는 역할을 할 수 있다ᅳ 상기 친수성 고분자의 예 가 크게 한정되는 것은 아니나, 예를 들어, 폴리알킬렌 옥사이드 화합물을 들 수 있다.
상기 폴리알킬렌 옥사이드 화합물은 하기 화학식 1로 표시되는 화합물 을 포함할 수 있다.

상기 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 수지 조성물을 코팅하는 단계에서, 상기 코팅방법의 예가 크게 한정되는 것은 아니며, 예를 들어, 전기방사 (electrospinning), 에어 전기방사 (AES : Ai r Electrospinning) , 전 기분사 (electrospray) , 전기분사방사 (e lectrobrown spinning) , 원심전기방 사 (centr i fugal electrospinning) , 들래쉬 전기방사 ( f l ash—el ectrospinning) 등의 방법을 사용할 수 있다.
특히, 상기 코팅단계는 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층의 적어도 일면에 수지 조성물을 전기방사하는 단계를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 전기방사단계를 통해, 상기 다공성 고분자 기재층 상에 얇고 균일한 두께의 코팅층이 강한 결합을 통해 형성될 수 있다.
하기 도 3을 참조하여 상기 전기방사법의 보다 구체적인 예를 들면, 방사 용액 탱크 ( 10) , 방사 용액 (20), 방사 노즐 (30), 외부 전원 (40), 및 컬 렉터 기판 (50)을 포함한 전기 방사 장치 ( 1)를 이용하여, 외부 전원 (40)에 의하여 방사 노즐 (30)이 양의 전압 또는 음의 전압으로 하전되고, 이에 따

예를 들어, 방사 용액 (20)이 고분자 물질을 포함하는 용액인 경우에 는, 방사 용액 (20)은 선형 형태로 방사될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 인가되는 전 압이 약 2500 V 이하에서는 선형 형태로 방사되고, 약 2500 V 초과에서는 스프레이 형태로 방사될 수 있다.

수 있다.
또한, 상기 아연—브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막의 제조 방 법은 상기 코팅 단계 이전에, 1 , 000 , 000 내지 7 , 000.,000의 증량평균분자량 을 갖는 폴리을레핀계 수지; 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 흔합물; 및 가소제;를 포함한 조성물을 용융 흔합하여 펠렛화 하는 단계 ; 상기 펠렛을 압출하여 시트 ( sheet )상의 고분자 기재층을 제조하는 단계 ; 및 상기 고분자 기재층에서 가소제를 제거하여 다공성 고분자 기재충을 제조하 는 단계를 더 포함할 수 있다.
상기 조성물은 상기 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 흔 합물 10 중량 내지 60중량 % ; 상기 가소제 5 내지 90중량 및 잔량의 1 , 000 , 000 내지 7 , 00으 000의 중량평균분자량을 갖는 폴리을레핀계 수지;를 포함할 수 있다.
구체적으로, 폴리올레핀계 수지; 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 실리카의 흔합물; 및 가소제를 소정의 무게비로 준비하고, 상기 성분들을 150 내지 250°C 범위의 은도에서 1 내지 60분 동안 흔합하고, 이러한 흔합 물을 고형화하여 펠렛화 시키고, 상기 펠렛을 T-다이 등을 통해 시트 형상 으로 성형함으로서 시트 상의 고분자 기재층올 제조할 수 있다.
상기 시트 형상으로 성형된 용융 압출물은 열전도체에 접촉시켜 수지 의 결정화 온도보다 충분히 낮은 은도까지 냉각하는 것이 바람직하다. 특히 상기 용융 압출물을 이송하여 시트형상으로 성형하기까지의 온도는 용융 흔 련 공정의 설정 온도보다 고온으로 설정할 필요가 있다. 이는 용융 혼련 공 정에서 미세하게 분산한 무기 입자가 시트 성형 과정에서 웅집되는 것을 막 아준다.
이와 같이 제조된 시트 상의 고분자 기재층은 염화메틸렌, 를루엔, 에탄을, 아세톤 등의 유기 용매로 세척하여 미네랄 오일 등의 유기 성분을 제거하고 건조하여 다공성 고분자 기재층을 제조할 수 있다. 한편, 발명의 또다른 구현예에 따르면, 상기 다공성 분리막을 포함하 는 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지가 제공될 수 있다.

본 발명에 따르면, 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지에 적용시 내구성이 향상되며, 전해액에 대한 흡습성이 높고, 양극과 음극 전해액 간의 이온의 크로스 오버 현상을 방지하여 전지 효율을 향상시킬 수 있는 아연 -브름 레 독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막, 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분 리막의 제조 방법 및 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지가 제공될 수 있다.

발명을 하기의 실시예에서 보다 상세하게 설명한다. 단, 하기의 실시 예는 본 발명을 예시하는 것일 뿐, 본 발명의 내용이 하기의 실시예에 의하 여 한정되는 것은 아니다.
<제조예: 레독스흐름전지 다공성 분리막의 기재층 제조 >
중량평균분자량 (Mw)이 4 , 000 , 000인 고밀도 폴리에틸렌 (롯데케미칼)을
20 중량 %, 일차 입자 (pr imary part ic les)의 입경이 약 380 nm인 친수성 건 식 실리카를 15 중량 % , 일차 입자 (pr imary part i c l es)의 입경이 약 380nm인 소수성 건식 실리카를 5 중량 %, 가소제로서 유동 파라핀 (미창석유공업 제조) 을 60 중량 산화 방지제로서 펜타에리트리틸 -테트라키스 -[3ᅳ(3,5-디 -t-부 틸 -4-히드록시페닐)프로피오네이트]를 0.3 중량 % 첨가한 것을 수퍼믹서로
흔합하였다.
이때, 상기 친수성 건식 실리카는 표면에는 하이드록실기가 결합된 건식 실리카 (BET 비표면적 약 25 n /g, 웅집 입자의 직경 약 30 )를 사용 하였고, 상기 소수성 건식 실리카는 표면에는 지방족 작용기가 결합된 건식 실리카 (BET 비표면적 약 25 nf/g, 웅집 입자의 직경 .약 30 )를 사용하였 다.
상기 얻어진 혼합물을 2축 동방향 스크류식 압출기 피드로에 공급하 였다. 압출기에 있어서의 용융 흔련 조건은 설정 은도 :210°C, 스크류 회전 수 160 rpm에서 행하였다.
상기 용융 흔합물을 각각 230 °C의 온도로 설정된 T—다이를 거친 후, 표면 온도 80°C로 제어된 를 사이에 압출하여, 두께 600 / 의 시트 형상의 분리막를 얻었다.
그리고, 고정를에 분리막을 고정한 후, 실온에서 10분간 염화메틸렌 에 함침하여 가소제를 추출하여 아연ᅳ브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리 막을 제조하였다.
<비교제조예 1내지 2: 레독스흐름전지 다공성 분리막의 기재층 제조 > 비교제조예 1
일차 입자 (primary particles)의 입경이 약 380 nm인 친수성 건식 실 리카를 20 중량 ¾>, 일차 입자 (primary particles)의 입경이 약 380nm인 소수 성 건식 실리카를 0 중량 % 사용한 점을 제외하고, 제조예 1과 동일한 방법으 로 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막을 제조하였다. 비교제조여 12

폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드 (Polyvinyl idene fluoride, PVDF), 폴리에 틸렌 옥사이드 (Polyethylene oxide, PE0) 및 다공성 실리카 (BET 비표면적 약 80 m7g, 웅집 입자의 최대직경 약 20 //m)를 하기 표 1의 함량으로 흔합 하여 수지 조성물을 제조하였다.
상기 수지 조성물을 상기 제조예의 기재층 단면에 전기방사하여, 기 재층 상에 두께 5.67μπι의 코팅층이 형성된 분리막을 제조하였다. 실시여 12
상기 다공성 실리카 대신 표면에 하이드록실기가 결합된 실리카 (BET 비표면적 약 80 n /g, 웅집 입자의 최대직경 약 20 )를 사용한 점을 제외 하고, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 분리막을 제조하였다.
<비교예 1내지 2: 레독스 흐름 전지의 분리막 제조 >
비교 ^11
상기 제조예의 기재층을 분리막으로 사용하였다. 비교예 2
상기 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드 (Polyvinylidene fluoride, PVDF)로 만 이루어진 수지 조성물을 사용한 점을 제외하고, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하 게 분리막을 제조하였다.

실시예 및 비교예의 코팅층 형성용 수지 조성물 조성 (단위 : 중량 %)
상기 실시예 및 비교예에서 얻어진 레독스 흐름 전지의 분리막의 물 성을 하기 방법으로 측정하였으며 , 그 결과를 표 1 및 표 2에 각각 나타내었 다. 실험예 1 : 표면 및 단면 분석
상기 실시예 1 내지 2, 비교예 1 내지 2에서 제조된 레독스 흐름 전 지의 분리막에 대하여, 표면 및 단면을 FE-SEM (Fi eld Emi ssion Scanning Electron Mi croscope)으로 분석하고, 그 결과를 하기 도 1에 기재하였다. 표면 분석을 위한 샘플 준비 방법으로는, 5 mm X 5 mm의 적당량의 분 리막 샘플을 Pt coat ing을 1회 진행 한 후 고배율로 분석하는 방법을 사용 하였다.
단면 분석을 위한 샘플 준비 방법으로는, Lei ca EM TIC 3X 장비를 이 용하여 저온 영하 120°C에서 분리막을 절단하고, Pt coat ing 1회 진행 후 고배을로 분석하는 방법을 사용하였다.
그 결과, 하기 도 1에 나타난 바와 같이, 실시예 1 및 2에서 제조된 분리막은 표면에 미세한 기공이 형성된 반면, 비교예 2에서 제조된 분리막 은 기공이 형성되지 않은 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
또한, 실시예 1에서 제조된 분리막의 단면을 분석한 결과, 5.67 두께 의 균일한 코팅층이 형성된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 실험예 2 : 접촉각 측정
상기 실시예 1 내지 2 , 비교예 1 내지 2에서 제조된 레독스 흐름 전 지의 분리막에 대하여 , SE0사의 phoenix-300을 이용하여 , Zn-Br 전해액 2 li L을 표면에 떨어뜨린 순간부터 0.5 sec 마다 접촉각을 측정하고, 그 결과 를 하기 도 2에 나타내었다.
하기 도 2에 나타난 바와 같이, 일정 시간이 지난 후 비교예 2 에 비해 실리카를 사용한 실시예 1, 2에서 접촉각이 감소하여 친수성이 향상되었으
며, 비교예 1과는 동등한 수준의 접촉각을 보였다.
이에, 상기 실시예에서 제조한 분리막 표면의 친수성이 확보되어, 전 해액과의 접촉시 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다ᅳ 실험예 3 : 충방전시 전하량 효율 및 에너지 효율 측정
상기 실시예 1 내지 2, 비교예 1 에서 제조된 레독스 흐름 전지의 분 리막을 적용한 아연 -브롬 화학흐름전지에 대하여, 충방전 1회 진행 후 1회 스트립핑을 1 Cycle로 설정하여, 하기 수학식 2에 의해 전하량 효율을 측정 하고, 그 결과를 하기 표 2 에 기재하였다.
이 때, 충방전기는 Wonatec 제품을 사용하였고, 상은 조건하에서 시 스템 총 충전량 2.98Ah, 전해액 이용률 40%(S0C 40), 충전 20mA/cuf, 방전 20mA/ cuf, 0.01V미만의 전압 조건으로 측정하였다.

전하량 효율 (Coulombic Efficiency, CE) = 방전용량 (Ah)/충전용량 (Ah)x 100 실험예 4 : 기공 평균 직경 측정
상기 실시예 1 내지 2, 비교예 1 에서 제조된 레독스 흐름 전지 분리 막에 대해 Porosimeter(Micromeritics, Autopore IV 9500)를 이용하여 평균 기공 직경을 측정하고, 그 결과를 하기 표 2 에 기재하였다.
측정 시, 압력 범위는 0.5 내지 60,000 psi이며, 150°C에서 두 시간 동안 전처리 후 측정을 실시하였다.

상기 표 2에 나타난 바와 같이, 기공의 평균 직경이 50 내지 100 nm인 범위에 있는 실시예는 낮은 브롬 투과도를 나타내어 아연 이온 (Zn2+)이나 브 롬 이온 (ΒΓ) 등 일정 크기 이하의 작은 화학종은 선택적으로 투과할 수 있 으며 , 브름 (Br2) 등 일정 크기를 초과하는 화학종의 이동을 효과적으로 차단 하는 선택적 투과성을 나타냄으로써, 자기 방전에 의한 효율 저하를 방지할 수 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
상기 비교예 1의 경우 기공의 평균 직경이 23.4iim로 지나치게 작아짐 에 따라, 분리막의 저항이 높아져 에너지효율 (전압효율)이 감소될 수 있다. 추가로, 상기 제조예 및 비교제조예에서 얻어진 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 기재층의 물성을 하기 방법으로 측정하였으며, 그 결과를 표 3 및 표 4에 각각 나탕내었다. 실험예 5 : 제조예 및 비교제조예의 다공성 기재층의 자가방전율 상기 제조예 및 비교제조예 각각에서 제조된 다공성 기재층을 이용하 여 동일한 전해질 및 전극 사용하여 전지를 제조한 이후에 단전지 장치를 이용하여 충전후 24시간 방치 후 방전을 하여 에너지 효율 감소 정도를 측 정하는 방법으로측정하였다.

실험예 6 : 제조예 및 비교제조예의 다공성 기재층의 전기저항 측정 전기저항 측정셀을 제작한 후, 충전 상태 (state of charge) 0¾일 때 의 Zn/Br 전해액에 저항을 측정하고 다공성 기재층을 삽입한 상태에서 충전 상태 (state of charge) 0%일 때의 Zn/Br 전해액에 저항을 측정하여, 상기 2
개 측정 값이 차이를 구하여 다공성 기재층을 전기 저항을 구하였다. 실험예 7 : 제조예 및 비교제조예의 다공성 기재층의 브름 투과도 측 정
양극에는 충전 상태 (S0C) 100%의 전해액 (브름 함유)을 충진하고, 음 극에는 충전 상태 (S0C) 100%의 전해액 (브름 미함유)를 층진한 후, 시간에 따라 양극에서 음극으로 넘어오는 브름양을 적정을 통하여 농도로 확인하였 다- 양극에는 층전 상태 (S0C) 100%의 전해액 (브롬 함유)을 충진하고. 음극에는 충전 상태 (S0C) 100%의 전해액 (브롬 미함유)를 충진한 후, 시간에 따라 양극에서 음극으로 넘어오는 브름양을 적정을 통하여 농도로 확인하였다.
- Br2 몰농도 계산
[Br2 몰농도] = [Na2S203 부피] x [Na2S203 몰농도] / [Sampl e 용액 부피] X 2 = [Na2S203 부피] X 0. 1M / [Samp l e 용액 부피] x 2 적정액은 Na2S203를 사용하였으며 색깔이 노란색에서 무색으로 변할 때에 적정액 양을 측정하여 위에 공식을 통해여 브롬 몰농도를 확인하였다.

제조예 및 비교제조예의 실험예 6 및 7 결과
상기 표 4에 나타난 바와 같이, 특정 중량평균분자량 범위의 폴리올레핀 수지와 친수성 건식 실리카 및 소수성 건식 .실리카의 흔합물을 미네랄 오일에 흔합하여 제조된 제조예의 다공성 기재층을 사용하면, 비교제조예들에 비하여 낮은 저항 및 브롬 투과율을 나타낸다는 점을
확인할 수 있었다.
즉, 제조예의 다공성 기재층을 이용하면 보다 낮은 저항을 갖는 분리 막을 제공할 수 있으며, 이러한 제조예의 다공성 기재층은 브롬의 투과도를 낮추어 양극과 음극 전해액 간의 이은의 크로스 오버 및 전지의 에너지 밀 도의 저하 현상을 최소화 할 수 있고, 이에 따라 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전 지의 수명을 증대할 수 있다.

폴리올레핀계 수지를 포함한 다공성 고분자 기재층; 및
상기 다공성 고분자 기재충의 적어도 일면에 형성되고, 바인더 수지 및 친수성 실리카 입자를 포함한 코팅층;을 포함하고,
상기 코팅층에는 10 ηπι 내지 500 nm의 평균 직경을 갖는 미세 기공이 형성된, 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막.

제 1항에 있어서,
상기 코팅층의 두께는 0. 1 η 내지 50 인, 아연 -브름 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막.

상기 친수성 실리카 입자는 하이드록실기, 카르복실기, 에테르기, 설 파이드기, 에스테르기, 에록시기, 포스포닐기, 포스피닐기, 설포닐기, 설피 닐기, 설폰산기, 설핀산기, 인산기ᅳ 아인산기, 아미노기, 아미드기, 4차 암 모늄기, 및 4차 포스포늄기로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 1종 이상의 친수성 작용기가 결합된 실리카 입자를 포함하는, 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의
다공성 분리막.

상기 바인더 수지는 폴리에테르술폰 (PES) , 셀를로오스계 고분자, 폴 리아마이드계 고분자, 폴리술폰 (PSf ) , 폴리에테르케톤 (PEK) , 폴리에테르에 테르케톤 (PEEK) , 폴리비닐라이덴 플로라이드 (PVDF) , 폴리테트라플루오로에 틸렌 (PTFE) , 폴리아크릴로니트릴 (PAN) , 폴리비닐클로라이드 (PVC) 및 폴리비 닐라이덴 클로라이드 (PVDC)으로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 1종 이상을 포함하 는, 아연 -브롬 레독스 흐름 전지의 다공성 분리막.
