  • the purge pump is driven to desorb (purge) the evaporated fuel from the canister.
  • This type of fuel vapor processing apparatus is disclosed in, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 2002-256986 and 2007-162588.
  • a double-action diaphragm pump is used as a purge pump in order to prevent fuel vapor from being diffused into the atmosphere from the canister even when the purge pump is broken. Thereby, even if the purge pump is broken, the passage hermeticity when the pump is stopped is secured.
  • a special vane pump is used as a purge pump.
  • the vane pump has vane accommodating means such as a tension spring that draws the plurality of vanes toward the rotation center. Therefore, while the purge pump is driven, the tension spring is extended by the centrifugal force, and the vane is ejected radially outward to pump the gas. On the other hand, while the purge pump is stopped, the suction side and the discharge side communicate with each other because the vanes are attracted to the center of rotation by the urging force of the tension spring. As a result, the gas flow path is secured even when the purge pump is stopped, thereby improving the evaporative fuel desorption efficiency.

  • JP-A-2007-162588 uses a vane pump that allows gas to pass through even when the pump is stopped, the problem as in JP-A-2002-256986 does not occur.
  • JP 2007-162588 A requires the use of a special vane pump. Moreover, no consideration is given to the size (cross-sectional area) of the internal space serving as a gas flow path in the vane pump. Therefore, if the minimum cross-sectional area of the internal space of the vane pump from the suction port to the discharge port is smaller than the minimum cross-sectional area of the internal space in the purge passage, the vane pump becomes a passage resistance (pressure loss part) and the evaporative fuel desorption efficiency is hindered. Description
