Definitions
- the present invention relates to an electroluminescent element.
- Electroluminescent devices have features such as self-emission and high-speed response, and are expected to be applied to flat panel displays.
- a two-layered type in which a hole-transporting organic thin film (hole-transporting layer) and an electron-transporting organic thin film (electron-transporting layer) are reported has been reported, a low voltage of 10 V or less. It has attracted attention as a large-area light-emitting element that emits light with voltage.
- the laminated electroluminescent element is composed of a thin film having a basic structure of positive electrode / hole injection layer / hole transport layer / light emitting layer / electron transport layer / electron injection layer / negative electrode.
- the light emitting layer may have the function of the hole transport layer and the electron transport layer as in the case of the two-layer type. Further, since various colors can be emitted by selecting the type of the fluorescent organic compound, application to various light emitting elements, display elements and the like is expected.
- An electroluminescent element is a device that emits light by injecting holes from an anode and electrons from a cathode, transporting them to a light emitting layer, and then recombining both carriers.
- the energy barrier usually has to exceed 0.3 to 1 eV, and a voltage corresponding to the device configuration is required. For this reason, in a device with a large energy barrier such as a blue light-emitting device or a phosphorescent light-emitting device, the power consumption caused by the drive voltage has been a problem.
- Patent Document 1 discloses an anthracene derivative which is a hydrocarbon compound. An example of doping is shown. Succeeded in reducing the hole injection barrier from the anode to the light-emitting layer by doping an anthracene derivative with a large ionization potential into a hole-injection layer and using an anthracene derivative in the hole-transport layer. is doing.
- the ionization potential of the anthracene derivative is about 0.5 eV higher than that of the phthalocyanine derivative or triarylamine derivative generally used for the hole injection layer when the electron acceptor is not doped. Therefore, the radical cation of the anthracene derivative generated by doping the electron acceptor is more unstable.
- the radical cation of an unstable anthracene derivative reacts with oxygen and moisture that have penetrated into the electroluminescent element, or reacts with adjacent molecules to cause decomposition or alteration.
- the radical cation of the anthracene derivative is decomposed or altered, the number of carriers that can be injected is reduced, so that the carrier balance is changed and the luminous efficiency is lowered.
- the decomposed or altered anthracene derivative becomes a quenching site, the light emission efficiency is lowered.
- the electroluminescent device using an anthracene derivative doped with an electron acceptor for the hole injection layer has poor lifetime characteristics.
- an anthracene derivative doped with an electron acceptor when used as a hole injection layer and an anthracene derivative is also used for the hole transport layer, there is no barrier for electron injection from the hole transport layer to the hole injection layer. Electrons flow into the injection layer. As a result, the radical cation generated by the electron acceptor reacts with the electrons flowing into the hole injection layer and deactivates, so that the light emission efficiency decreases. Therefore, an electroluminescent device using an anthracene derivative doped with an electron acceptor as a hole injection layer and also using an anthracene derivative in the hole transport layer has poor lifetime characteristics.
- an object of the present invention is to provide an electroluminescent device having a longer lifetime.
- an electroluminescent device of the present invention has at least one light emitting layer sandwiched between a pair of electrodes consisting of an anode and a cathode, and a hole injection layer containing an electron acceptor.
- the hole injection layer preferably contains a pyrene derivative represented by the following general formula (1).

- pyrene derivatives have a lower ionization potential than anthracene derivatives.
- a pyrene derivative with a small ionization potential doped with an electron acceptor in the hole injection layer the stability of the generated radical cation is increased, and the light emission of the electroluminescent device due to the presence of an unstable and highly reactive cation radical Since a reduction in efficiency can be suppressed, a long-life electroluminescent element can be realized.

- a pyrene derivative doped with an electron acceptor is used for the hole injection layer and a pyrene derivative is used for the hole transport layer
- an anthracene derivative having an electron affinity higher than that of the pyrene derivative is used for the light emitting layer. Since the inflow of electrons to the hole transport layer and the hole injection layer can be suppressed, a long-life electroluminescent element can be realized.
- a longer-life electroluminescent element can be provided.
- the electroluminescent device 1 includes an anode 3, a hole injection layer 4, a hole transport layer 5, a light emitting layer 6, an electron transport layer 7, an electron injection layer 8, and a cathode 9 on a substrate 2. Have sequentially.
- the substrate 2 is preferably formed of a transparent or translucent material, such as a glass plate, a transparent plastic sheet, a translucent plastic sheet, quartz, transparent ceramics, or a composite sheet combining these.
- the substrate 2 may be formed from an opaque material. In this case, an element structure in which light is extracted from the opposite side of the substrate 2 may be used.
- the emission color may be controlled by combining the substrate 2 with, for example, a color filter film, a color conversion film, a dielectric reflection film, or the like.
- the anode 3 preferably uses a metal, an alloy or an electrically conductive compound having a relatively large work function as an electrode material.
- the electrode material used for the anode 3 include gold, platinum, silver, copper, cobalt, nickel, palladium, vanadium, tungsten, tin oxide, zinc oxide, ITO (indium tin oxide), polythiophene, and polypyrrole. is there. These electrode materials may be used alone or in combination.
- the anode 3 can form these electrode materials on the substrate 2 by, for example, a vapor phase growth method such as a vapor deposition method or a sputtering method.
- the anode 3 may have a single layer structure or a multilayer structure.
- the hole injection layer 4 is a layer having a function of facilitating injection of holes from the anode 3 and a function of transporting injected holes and injecting them into the hole transport layer 5.
- triarylamine derivatives such as copper phthalocyanine and starburst amine, and polymer compounds such as polythiophene and polyaniline are used.
- the hole injection layer 4 used in the present embodiment includes an electron acceptor and the following general formula ( 1) or a pyrene derivative represented by any one of the following general formula (2), the following general formula (3), and the following general formula (4). Since holes are generated on the pyrene derivative by the action of the electron acceptor, the hole injection barrier from the anode 3 can be greatly reduced.
- X 1 to X 64 are substituents, each independently a hydrogen atom, substituted or unsubstituted aryl Represents any one of a group, a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a silyl group, a halogen atom, a cyano group, a nitro group, a hydroxyl group, and a thiol group, and X 1 to X 10 And two or more of them are each independently a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group, and the linking group L is a substituted or unsubstituted arylene group, substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic ring Group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkylene group.
- the pyrene derivative used for the hole injection layer 4 has an ionization potential of about 0.1 to 0.2 eV smaller than the anthracene derivative. Therefore, the radical cation of the pyrene derivative generated by doping with the electron acceptor is more stable than the radical cation of the anthracene derivative. As a result, the decomposition and alteration of the material due to the instability of the radical cation are reduced, so that the generation of quenching sites and the deterioration of the carrier balance are suppressed. Therefore, by using a pyrene derivative, it is possible to prevent a decrease in light emission efficiency of the electroluminescent element due to driving, and thus it is possible to realize a long-life electroluminescent element.
- the pyrene derivative represented by the general formula (1) has two or more substituted or unsubstituted aryl groups or substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic groups. For this reason, since there are many rotatable bonds in the molecule and there are various possible conformations, the film made of the pyrene derivative represented by the general formula (1) is difficult to crystallize and can form a stable thin film. Therefore, a long-life electroluminescent element can be realized.
- the pyrene derivative represented by any one of the general formula (2), the general formula (3), and the general formula (4) is represented by the general formula (1) due to the presence of two pyrene rings.
- the molecular weight increases as compared with the pyrene derivative, and the conformation that can be taken by the pyrene ring as the main skeleton is diversified.
- the film made of a pyrene derivative represented by any one of the general formula (2), the general formula (3), and the general formula (4) is suppressed in terms of crystallization due to element driving and heat generation, and is stable. Since a thin film can be formed, a long-life electroluminescent element can be realized.
- the substituted or unsubstituted aryl group in the general formula (1), the general formula (2), the general formula (3), or the general formula (4) may be monocyclic or polycyclic, and may be a condensed ring or a ring. Sets are also included.
- Such aryl groups are preferably those having 6 to 22 carbon atoms, and specifically include phenyl, naphthyl, anthryl, phenanthryl, pyrenyl, perylenyl, benzoanthryl, and dibenzoanthryl.
- aryl groups may be further substituted, such as alkyl groups, alkoxy groups, aryl groups, aryloxy groups, silyl groups, halogen atoms, cyano groups, nitro groups, hydroxyl groups, Examples include thiol groups.
- the substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group in the general formula (1), the general formula (2), the general formula (3), and the general formula (4) 5-membered or 6 containing O, N, S as a hetero atom.
- Examples thereof include a membered aromatic heterocyclic group and a condensed polycyclic aromatic heterocyclic group having 8 to 20 carbon atoms.
- Examples of the aromatic heterocyclic group and the condensed polycyclic aromatic heterocyclic group include thienyl group, furyl group, pyrrolyl group, pyridyl group, quinolyl group, quinoxalyl group, carbazoyl group, dibenzothienyl group, dibenzofuranyl group and the like. Can be mentioned.
- the heterocyclic group imparts polarity to the molecule, adhesion to the anode, which is an inorganic substance, may be improved.
- a carbazoyl group, a dibenzothienyl group, and a dibenzofuranyl group are preferable materials because they do not greatly change physical property values related to energy levels such as HOMO and LUMO of the main skeleton.
