Definitions
- the present invention relates to a radiation detector in which scintillator crystals are arranged two-dimensionally or three-dimensionally, and more particularly to a radiation detector provided with a reflector for distinguishing the position of fluorescence generation in the depth direction.
- Such a radiation detector 51 has a scintillator 52 in which scintillator crystals c are arranged three-dimensionally in the vertical, horizontal, and height directions, and a photodetector 53 that detects fluorescence emitted from the scintillator 52. .
- the fluorescence emitted from the scintillator 52 is obtained by converting radiation (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
- the radiation detector 51 has a function of distinguishing in which part of the scintillator 52 the fluorescence is emitted when measuring the fluorescence. Such a function is called a fluorescence position discrimination function.
- the radiation detector 51 discriminates the position of the fluorescence by specifying which of the scintillator crystals c constituting the scintillator 52 emits the fluorescence.
- the scintillator 52 is configured simply by arranging the scintillator crystals c, the position discrimination of the fluorescence cannot be performed accurately. In particular, in order to be able to distinguish which of the crystals emitting fluorescence is one of the crystals arranged in the height direction indicated by the shaded area in FIG. It is necessary to provide the reflecting plate 54.
- the configuration of the reflector 54 will be described.
- the reflection plate 54 has the same height as the crystal, and there are two types, one that extends in the horizontal direction and one that extends in the vertical direction.
- the reflecting plate 54 extending in the horizontal direction and the reflecting plate 54 extending in the vertical direction constitute a reflecting plate frame in which the reflecting plate 54 has a lattice shape by being fitted to each other.
- the crystals are arranged so as to be fitted into the reflector frame.
- the scintillator 52 having a new structure has been developed. That is, as shown in FIG. 21, the scintillator 52 is such that the scintillator crystal c in FIG. 20 is integrated in the height direction. By using such a scintillator 52, the sensitivity of the radiation detector 51 is improved. In other words, the scintillator 52 of FIG. 21 can reliably cause the fluorescence to reach the photodetector 53 unlike the configuration having four scintillator crystal layers as shown in FIG. 20 (see, for example, Patent Document 2).
- the scintillator 52 described with reference to FIG. 21 is also provided with four reflector plate bodies composed of the reflector plate 54. With this reflector plate frame, the radiation detector 51 can discriminate the generation position of the fluorescence in the height direction.
- the conventional radiation detector has the following problems. That is, according to the conventional radiation detector, it is not possible to accurately discriminate the generation position of the fluorescence in the height direction.
- the reflecting plate 54 does not cover all four side surfaces of the scintillator crystal.
- the reflectors 54 are provided on the side surface located on the upper side and the side surface located on the left side of the four side surfaces of the scintillator crystal.
- the fluorescence generated from the generation point in the first layer of the scintillator crystal tries to diffuse radially around the generation point, it is actually blocked by the reflection plate 54 and escapes from the reflection plate 54.
- the reflecting plate 54 is provided on the side surface located on the lower side and the side surface located on the left side of the four side surfaces of the scintillator crystal.
- the fluorescence generated in the first layer spreads in the lower right direction
- the fluorescence generated in the second layer spreads in the upper right direction. That is, the direction in which the fluorescence spreads differs depending on where the fluorescence is generated in the scintillator crystal.
- the conventional radiation detector distinguishes from which layer of the scintillator crystal the fluorescence is emitted.
- Such discrimination of the fluorescence generation position in the height direction is based on the premise that the fluorescence diffuses as ideal. In that respect, the diffused fluorescent light generated in the scintillator crystal is reliably reflected when it enters the reflector 54.
- FIG. 23 schematically shows the reflection of the fluorescence.
- Such reflection of diffused light is not assumed when discriminating in the height direction of fluorescence, and disturbs the spread of fluorescence as described in FIG. In other words, the reflection of fluorescence generated between crystals adversely affects the position discrimination of the fluorescence particularly in the height direction. That is, the fluorescence position discrimination becomes inaccurate.
- the present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a radiation detector having a configuration capable of discriminating the generation position of the fluorescence generated in the scintillator crystal in the height direction. An object of the present invention is to provide a radiation detector capable of accurately discriminating.
- the radiation detector according to the present invention includes a scintillator having scintillator crystals that convert radiation into fluorescence vertically and horizontally and having four layers of the first layer to the fourth layer in the height direction, and the scintillator optically.
- a radiation detector including a connected photodetector, and having a plurality of reflectors extending in a lateral direction or a longitudinal direction that reflect fluorescence in a gap between adjacent scintillator crystals, the first layer and the first layer Among the reflectors provided in the two layers, those extending in the horizontal direction are arranged in the vertical direction in a cycle of one scintillator crystal so as to appear alternately between the two layers, and the second layer and Of the reflectors provided in the third layer, those extending in the horizontal direction are arranged in the vertical direction with a period of one scintillator crystal so as to appear alternately between the two layers.
- the ones extending in the horizontal direction are arranged in the vertical direction with a period of one scintillator crystal so as to appear alternately between the two layers, and the reflectors provided in the first layer and the second layer Among them, the ones extending in the vertical direction are arranged in the horizontal direction with a period of two scintillator crystals so that the appearing positions are the same between the two layers, and are provided in the second layer and the third layer.
- the reflecting plates extending in the vertical direction are arranged in the horizontal direction with a period of one scintillator crystal so as to appear alternately between the two layers, and are provided in the third layer and the fourth layer.
- the reflecting plates that extend in the vertical direction are arranged in the horizontal direction with a period of two scintillator crystals so that the appearing positions are the same between the two layers, and the surface of the scintillator crystals
- the surface facing the adjacent scintillator crystal is polished. And it is characterized in that has a treated glass-like rough surface frosted rougher than the smooth surface.
- the scintillator crystals adjacent to each other constituting the scintillator are optically coupled by a transmission material having a refractive index smaller than that of the material constituting the scintillator crystal.
- the above-described configuration specifically represents the radiation detector of the present invention. If the surface connected to the photodetector of the scintillator is a rough surface, a part of the fluorescence generated by the scintillator is reliably incident on the photodetector without being reflected by the surface of the scintillator. The detector will optically couple as ideal. The above configuration contributes to accurate measurement of the fluorescence of the radiation detector.
- the roughness of the rough surface of the scintillator crystal is such that the surface of the scintillator crystal is ground with 100 to 600 polishing paper.
- the roughness of the rough surface of the scintillator crystal is rougher than the surface of the optically polished scintillator crystal.
- the roughness of the rough surface of the scintillator crystal is rougher than the surface of the scintillator crystal that has been subjected to the chemical etching process.
- the above radiation detector further includes a scintillator reflector provided so as to cover the side surface and the upper surface of the scintillator when the bottom surface is the surface of the scintillator where the photodetector is optically coupled.
- the scintillator crystal constituting the side surface of the scintillator is more desirable if all surfaces are smooth surfaces.
- the above radiation detector further includes a scintillator reflector provided so as to cover the side surface and the upper surface of the scintillator when the bottom surface is the surface of the scintillator where the photodetector is optically coupled. It is more desirable that only the surface forming the side surface of the scintillator among the surfaces of the scintillator crystal is a smooth surface.
- the above-described configuration specifically represents the radiation detector of the present invention.
- the surface of the scintillator configured by the collection of scintillator crystals is a smooth surface, when the fluorescence generated in the scintillator goes to the side surface of the scintillator, a part of the fluorescence is It is reflected from the side of and returned to the scintillator. At this time, the fluorescence emitted from the scintillator is totally reflected by the scintillator reflector and is also returned to the scintillator.
- the side surface of the scintillator according to the above-described configuration is configured to assist the function of the scintillator reflector.
- the above configuration contributes to accurate measurement of the fluorescence of the radiation detector.
- the six faces of the scintillator crystal are smooth, it is not necessary to worry about the orientation of the scintillator crystal when assembling the scintillator, and the manufacture of the scintillator becomes easy.
- the optical coupling with the adjacent crystal becomes ideal, and a radiation detector capable of accurate fluorescence measurement can be provided.
- the scintillator crystal is unprocessed with the surface cut out from the crystal ingot.
- the above-described configuration specifically represents the radiation detector of the present invention.
- a scintillator crystal constituting the scintillator is manufactured by cutting a cylindrical crystal ingot with a wire saw or a dicing saw.
- the scintillator crystal immediately after being cut is rough on all six sides. Therefore, when a scintillator crystal having a rough surface is assembled to produce a scintillator, reflection is suppressed at the optical coupling surface between adjacent scintillator crystals. That is, according to the above configuration, a scintillator having the effects of the present invention can be obtained. Furthermore, according to the above-described configuration, since a process for polishing the surface of the scintillator crystal is not necessary, a manufacturing process is shortened and a low-cost radiation detector can be provided.

Abstract
Description
シンチレータ結晶cの各々は、Ceが拡散したLu2(1-X)Gd2XSiO5(以下、LGSOとよぶ)によって構成されている。
