Abstract
Die vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auf die Synthese von 1,3-Butandiol ausgehend von Methanol als C1-Baustein. Das Methanol wird zu Acetaldehyd umgesetzt, welcher dimerisiert und anschließend reduziert wird.
Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung von 1,3-Butandiol
Die vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von 1,3-Butandiol.
1,3-Butandiol stellt ein wichtiges industrielles Produkt dar. Es dient als hochsiedendes Lösemittel, als Frostschutzmittel oder als Diol für die Herstellung von Esterverbindungen, welche wiederum als Weichmacher oder Filmbindehilfsmittel sowie als Polyester Anwendung finden. Neben dem Einsatz im Industriebereich wird 1,3-Butandiol auch als Tiermittelfutterzusatz oder für die Herstellung kosmetischer Formulierungen verarbeitet.
Verfahren zur Synthese von 1,3-Butandiol gehen üblicherweise von C2-Edukten wie Ethylen aus, welches über Dimerisierungsreaktionen dann zu 1,3-Butandiol umgewandelt wird. Angesichts der Wichtigkeit von 1,3-Butandiol existiert jedoch ein ständiger Bedarf an alternativen Synthesestrategien und -routen.
Es ist somit die Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung, eine neue Syntheseroute für 1,3- Butandiol bereitzustellen. Diese Aufgabe wird durch das vorliegende Syntheseverfahren gelöst. Demgemäß wird ein Syntheseverfahren vorgeschlagen, umfassend die Schritte: a) Synthese von Acetaldehyd ausgehend von Methanol
b) Dimerisierung des Acetaldehyds zu Acetaldol; und
c) Reduktion des Acetaldols zu 1,3-Butandiol
Durch das Syntheseverfahren ist somit eine Synthese von 1 ,3-Butandiol ausgehend von gut verfügbaren Ci -Bausteinen wie Methanol möglich. Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren bietet bei vielen Anwendungen insbesondere einen oder mehrere der folgenden Vorteile: - Dadurch, dass der Acetaldehyd durch Umsetzung zweier Ci -Bausteine synthetisiert wird, wobei einer der Bausteine Methanol darstellt, kann auf den Einsatz von Ethylen verzichtet werden. Der Rohstoff Methanol steht in großen Mengen kostengünstig auf Basis unterschiedlicher Rohstoffquellen wie Erdgas, Kohle oder Bio-Masse zur Verfügung und ist als bei Normaldruck und Raumtemperatur flüssige Verbindung leicht zu transportieren.
Die Herstellung von Acetaldehyd aus Ethylen durch Oxidation nach den üblichen Verfahren ist hochkomplex, erfordert besondere Werkstoffe und ist im Hinblick auf die Abfallentsorgung ökologisch durchaus problematisch. Die einzelnen Schritte des Verfahrens werden im Folgenden erläutert.
Schritt a) Acetaldehydsynthese
Die Acetaldehydsynthese kann auf mehrerlei Wegen erfolgen, die allesamt somit bevorzugte Ausgestaltungen der vorliegenden Erfindung darstellen.
1) Synthese mittels Umsetzung von Methanol zu Essigsäure
In einer ersten bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird zunächst Methanol mit Synthesegas zu Essigsäure umgesetzt. Eine mögliche Umsetzung ist u.a. in „Ullmanns Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry", Wiley-VCH, 6. Aufl. 2003, Vol l , Seiten 151-165 beschrieben. Hierbei wird Methanol in Gegenwart eines Rhodium oder Iridium-Katalysators mit Kohlenmonoxid carbonyliert.
Die so erhaltene Essigsäure kann entweder direkt zu Acetaldehyd reduziert werden. Eine entsprechende und bevorzugte Vorgehensweise wird u.a. in der WO2010014146 A2 behandelt.
Alternativ kann die Essigsäure über die Zwischenstufe Ethanol zu Acetaldehyd umgesetzt werden.
Die Ethanolsynthese kann dabei so erfolgen, dass, beispielsweise gemäß Arpe„Industrielle Organische Chemie", Wiley-VCH, 6. Aufl. S. 198, Essigsäure zunächst mit weiterem Methanol zu Methylacetat umgesetzt wird, welches mittels Gasphasenhydrogenolyse zu Ethanol und Methanol gespalten wird; das erhaltene Methanol kann natürlich entweder zur erneuten Veresterung oder zur Essigsäuresynthese rückgeführt werden. Alternativ kann, bespielsweise gemäß der WO 2011/056595 oder WO 2011/056597, die Essigsäure bei erhöhter Temperatur (125-350°C) und Druck (10 bis 3000kPa) mit Wasserstoff und einem geeignetem Katalysator zu Ethanol hydriert werden.
Die Oxidation des Ethanols erfolgt bevorzugt mittels Überleiten einer Ethanol-Luft-Mischung bei 500-650 °C über einen Silberkatalysator oder mittels Dehydrierung in der Gasphase bei 260-290°C an promotierten Kupferkatalysatoren. Hierzu wird beispielhaft auf „Ullmanns Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry", Wiley-VCH, 6. Aufl. 2003, Vol l, Seiten 135-136 verwiesen. 2) Synthese mittels Homologisierung von Methanol
Alternativ kann das Methanol auch mittels CO / H2 zu Ethanol homologisiert werden. Hierzu haben sich Eisen-Cobalt Carbonyle unter Zusatz von lodid-Promotoren bei Temperaturen von
100 bis 250°C und Drücken von 5 bis lOOMPa bewährt, wie u.a. in„Ullmanns Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry", Wiley-VCH, 6. Aufl. 2003, Vol.12, Seiten 404-405 und/oder US 4,320,320 beschrieben. Das so erhaltene Ethanol kann dann wie oben beschrieben zu Acetaldehyd umgesetzt werden. 3) Synthese mittels direkter Umsetzung von Methanol zu Acetaldehyd
Die oben beschriebene Methanol-Homologisierung kann - bei veränderten Reaktionsbedingungen, insbesondere einem veränderten CO / H2 -Verhältnis, Temperatur und/oder Druck - auch zur direkten Synthese von Acetaldehyd genutzt werden. b) Dimerisierung zu Acetaldol Der in Schritt a) erhaltene Acetaldehyd wird nun zu Acetaldol mittels einer Aldolreaktion dimerisiert. Die Aldolreaktion wird dabei bevorzugt in wäßriger Alkalilösung durchgeführt. Es hat sich bei vielen Anwendungen als günstig herausgestellt, die Reaktion nicht bis zum vollständigen Umsatz durchzuführen, sondern bei ca. 50-60% Umsetzung abzubrechen, da so die Bildung von Nebenprodukten vermieden oder zumindest vermindert werden kann. Hierzu wird u.a. auf Arpe „Industrielle Organische Chemie", Wiley-VCH, 6. Aufl. S. 202-203 verwiesen.
Der Abbruch erfolgt am einfachsten durch Säurezugabe; der nicht umgesetzte Acetaldehyd kann einfach z.B. durch Ausdampfen entfernt und dann rückgeführt werden. c) Reduktion des Acetaldols
Der in Schritt b) erhaltene Acetaldol kann nun durch Reduktion in 1,3-Butandiol überführt werden. Dabei bieten sich mehrere Methoden an, bevorzugt sind z.B. Hydrierungen mit Raney-Nickel, wie sie u.a. in Kirk-Othmer, Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, 3rd Ed. Wiley-Intersciences, New York, 1980 und/oder der WO 2005/06408 beschrieben sind.
Die vorgenannten sowie die beanspruchten und in den Ausführungsbeispielen beschriebenen erfindungsgemäß zu verwendenden Bauteile unterliegen in ihrer Größe, Formgestaltung, Materialauswahl und technischen Konzeption keinen besonderen Ausnahmebedingungen, so dass die in dem Anwendungsgebiet bekannten Auswahlkriterien uneingeschränkt Anwendung finden können.
Die einzelnen Kombinationen der Bestandteile und der Merkmale von den bereits erwähnten Ausführungen sind exemplarisch; der Austausch und die Substitution dieser Lehren mit anderen Lehren, die in dieser Druckschrift enthalten sind mit den zitierten Druckschriften werden ebenfalls ausdrücklich erwogen. Der Fachmann erkennt, dass Variationen, Modifikationen und andere Ausführungen, die hier beschrieben werden, ebenfalls auftreten können ohne von dem Erfindungsgedanken und dem Umfang der Erfindung abzuweichen. Entsprechend ist die obengenannte Beschreibung beispielhaft und nicht als beschränkend anzusehen. Das in den Ansprüchen verwendete Wort „umfassen" schließt nicht andere Bestandteile oder Schritte aus. Der unbestimmte Artikel„ein" schließt nicht die Bedeutung eines Plurals aus. Die bloße Tatsache, dass bestimmte Maße in gegenseitig verschiedenen Ansprüchen rezitiert werden, verdeutlicht nicht, dass eine Kombination von diesen Maßen nicht zum Vorteil benutzt werde kann. Der Umfang der Erfindung ist in den folgenden Ansprüchen definiert und den dazugehörigen Äquivalenten.
Claims
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von 1 ,3-Butandiol, umfassend die Schritte a) Synthese von Acetaldehyd ausgehend von Methanol
b) Dimerisierung des Acetaldehyds zu Acetaldol; und
c) Reduktion des Acetaldols zu 1,3-Butandiol
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei in Schritt a) Methanol zunächst in einem Schritt al) zu Essigsäure umgesetzt wird.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, wobei die in Schritt al) erhaltene Essigsäure zu Ethanol reduziert (Schritt a2) und dann zu Acetaldehyd oxidiert wird (Schritt a3).
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, wobei die in Schritt al) erhaltene Essigsäure zu Acetaldehyd reduziert wird.
5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei in Schritt a) Methanol zunächst zu Ethanol
homologisiert wird und das erhaltene Ethanol dann zu Actaldehyd oxidiert wird.
6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei Methanol mit CO / H2 direkt zu Acetaldehyd
umgesetzt wird.
7. Verfahen nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, wobei Schritt b) mittels einer Aldolreaktion durchgeführt wird.
8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 7, wobei die Aldolreaktion unter Einsatz von wäßriger
Alkalilösung verläuft.
9. Verfahren nach Anspruch 7 oder 8, wobei die Aldolreaktion bei 50-60% Umsatz abgebrochen wird.
10. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 9, wobei Schritt c) unter Hydrogenierung erfolgt
11. Verfahren nach Anspruch 10, wobei bei der Hydrogenierung Raney-Nickel als Katalysator verwendet wird.
