- Table 3 shows the measurement results of the initial voltage holding ratio (initial VHR), the voltage holding ratio (VHR) after the aging test, and the residual DC voltage after the aging test of Example 5 and Comparative Examples 3 and 4. It was.
- Example 5 the initial voltage holding ratio (initial VHR) was as high as 98% or more, and the voltage holding ratio (VHR) after the aging test did not decrease much and was higher than those of Comparative Examples 3 and 4.
- the residual DC voltage after the aging test of Example 5 was significantly lower than those of Comparative Examples 3 and 4.

It is considered that the voltage holding ratio (VHR) after the aging test was lowered and a high residual DC voltage was generated. In Comparative Example 4, it is considered that the voltage holding ratio (VHR) after the aging test was lowered and a high residual DC voltage was generated because moisture, impurities and the like entered the liquid crystal layer.

- Example 6 a monomer having a structure that generates radicals by hydrogen abstraction reaction or self-cleavage reaction by light irradiation was added.
- the benzophenone-based compound represented by the chemical formula (11) was added to 0.05% by weight with respect to the entire liquid crystal composition, and in Example 7, the chemical formula (12) was used.
- the benzyl compound represented by the chemical formula (13) was added to 0.05 wt% so that the benzyl compound represented by 0.05 wt% was added in Example 8.
- the compounds represented by the chemical formulas (11) and (12) are monomers having a structure that generates radicals by a hydrogen abstraction reaction by light irradiation, and the compounds represented by the chemical formula (13) are self-induced by light irradiation. It is a monomer having a structure that generates radicals by a cleavage reaction.
- the initial voltage holding ratio (VHR), the voltage holding ratio (VHR) after the aging test, and the residual DC voltage after the aging test were measured.
- the voltage holding ratio (VHR) measurement method, residual DC voltage measurement method, and aging test method are the same as those in Evaluation Test 1.
- Table 4 shows the measurement results of the initial voltage holding ratio (initial VHR), the voltage holding ratio after the aging test (VHR), and the residual DC voltage after the aging test in Examples 6 to 8.
- the initial voltage holding ratio (initial VHR) was as high as 98% or more, and the voltage holding ratio (VHR) after the aging test was not significantly reduced. Further, in all of Examples 6 to 8, the residual DC voltage showed a low value.
- a polymer layer could be formed by irradiation. Since the formed polymer layer has an amide group, it forms hydrogen bonds with moisture, impurities, etc. that have entered the liquid crystal layer, and has a high voltage holding ratio (VHR) after the aging test and a low residual DC voltage. It is thought.
- VHR voltage holding ratio
- a monomer having an amide group as represented by the chemical formula (9) a monomer having a structure that generates a radical by a hydrogen abstraction reaction by light irradiation, or a radical by a self-cleavage reaction by light irradiation.
- a liquid crystal display device capable of maintaining high display quality even in an environment of high temperature and high humidity was obtained by using in combination with a monomer having a structure that generates the.
- a liquid crystal display device capable of maintaining high display quality was obtained regardless of whether the vertical alignment film or the horizontal alignment film was used, or even in an environment of high temperature and high humidity. Further, there is provided a liquid crystal display device that can maintain high display quality even when using either a liquid crystal material having a positive dielectric anisotropy or a negative liquid crystal material, or in an environment of high temperature and high humidity. Obtained.
