したがって、本発明によれば、高い富化性能を有し、かつ駆動時に要するエネルギーを大幅に低減することができる二酸化炭素富化デバイスを提供することができる。

の酸素還元の電気化学反応が起こる。ガス拡散電極1側に存在する二酸化炭素濃度が高いほど上記反応量は多くなり、当該二酸化炭素富化デバイスの電流値は大きくなる。

の水の酸化反応が起こり、酸素が発生し、またこの反応によりガス拡散電極2近傍では水素イオンH+濃度が高くなり、炭酸水素イオンHCO3 -、炭酸イオンCO3 2-、炭酸H2CO3の間の平衡が大きく炭酸側に偏るため、水素イオンH+と電解液3中の炭酸水素イオンHCO3 -が、
H++HCO3 -→H2CO3
H2CO3→H2O+CO2
のように反応することで、二酸化炭素が生成される。結果としてガス拡散電極2側からは、酸素および二酸化炭素の混合ガスが排出される。大気濃度の二酸化炭素(0.04%)がガス拡散電極1に供給される場合には、酸素:二酸化炭素がおよそ1:1~2:1程度へと富化される。
H2O+CO2→H++HCO3 -
の反応が起こりやすくなるため、アノードであるガス拡散電極2側での反応が起こるための過電圧が大きくなる。このため、同一電圧で反応量を大きくするためには、ガス拡散電極2側は二酸化炭素濃度が希薄であれば希薄である方が良く、好ましくは5%以下である。より好ましくは、ガス拡散電極2側に気流を発生させ、常に二酸化炭素濃度を希釈する装置を備える。

により起こる。電解液3中に溶解した二酸化炭素の一部は水分子の付加により、炭酸となる。

1-1.概要
電極触媒は、特定の金属錯体を触媒成分とし、Pt系触媒等の従来の電極触媒と比較して同等又はより高い酸素還元反応(ORR)触媒活性、耐久性及び耐食性を有することを特徴とする。
電極触媒は、触媒成分として、1)特定の物性を有する金属錯体、又は2)特定の重合体金属錯体を焼成処理して成る金属錯体を含む。以下で本発明の電極触媒の構成について具体的に説明をする。

(i)X線光電子分光分析により分析した、窒素原子に配位した金属の含有率が0.4モル%以上である。
(ii)X線光電子分光分析により、窒素原子に配位した金属の存在が認められ、かつ、窒素原子の含有率が6.0モル%以上である。
上記電極触媒によれば、従来のポリマーと触媒金属を含む金属錯体由来の電極触媒よりも、より多くの触媒金属を配位することができる。それによってPt系触媒やCoTMPP触媒のような公知の電極触媒と比較して、同等又はより高いORR触媒活性と耐久性を有し、かつPtを使用しない若しくはその使用量を低減できる。
2-1.概要
本製造方法は、電極触媒を低廉で製造することができる。
上記電極触媒の製造方法は、(a)重合工程、(b)重合体金属錯体形成工程及び(c)焼成工程を含む。以下、それぞれの工程について、具体的に説明をする。
「重合工程」とは、ジアミノピリジン、トリアミノピリジン及び/又はテトラアミノピリジンをアニオン重合させて、2-4アミノピリジンポリマーを合成する工程である。重合させるモノマーは、1種のみを用いてもよいし、又は2又は3種を組み合わせてもよい。2種以上のモノマーを組み合わせて重合させる場合、それぞれのモノマーの混合モル比に特に制限はない。当業者が触媒活性を勘案しつつ適宜定めればよい。重合工程に使用する好ましいモノマーの一例として、ジアミノピリジン単独の場合が挙げられる。
「重合体金属錯体形成工程」とは、2-4アミノピリジンポリマーと触媒金属塩の混合により該ポリマーに触媒金属を配位させて重合体金属錯体を形成させる工程である。2-4アミノピリジンポリマーが包含する窒素原子が配位子(配位原子)となって触媒金属と配位結合し、重合体金属錯体が形成される。
「焼成工程」とは、前記重合体金属錯体形成工程で得られた重合体金属錯体を還元性ガス雰囲気下で高温にて焼成し、焼成金属錯体を得る工程である。本工程により重合体金属錯体において触媒金属が移動することによって、触媒金属を安定的に配位した耐久性の高い電極活性成分が調製される。
上記電極触媒によれば、Pt系触媒やCoTMPP触媒のような公知の電極触媒と比較して同等又はより高い酸化還元反応(ORR)触媒活性、耐久性及び耐食性を有する電極触媒を、低コストで、かつ比較的簡便な製造方法を提供することができる。
3-1.導電性担体
「導電性担体」とは、導電性を有し、かつ電極触媒を担持し得る物質をいう。前記特性を有する物質であれば材質は特に限定はしない。例えば、炭素系物質、導電性ポリマー、半導体、金属等が挙げられる。
「支持体」は、それ自身が剛性を有し、本発明の燃料電池用電極に一定の形状を付与することのできる物質をいう。導電性担体が粉末形状等の場合、電極触媒を担持した導電性担体のみでは燃料電池用電極として一定の形状を保持することができない。また、導電性担体が薄層状態の場合には、担体自体が剛性を有していない。このような場合、電極触媒を担持した導電性担体を支持体表面に配置することで、電極として一定の形状及び剛性が付与される。
(1)電極触媒担持方法
電極触媒を導電性担体に担持させる方法には、当該分野で公知の方法を用いることができる。例えば、適当な固着剤を用いて導電性担体表面に焼成金属錯体を固定させる方法が挙げられる。固着剤は導電性があれば好ましいが、限定はしない。例えば、前記導電性ポリマーを適当な溶剤に溶解した導電性ポリマー溶液やポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)の分散液等を固着剤として用いることができる。そのような固着剤を、導電性担体表面及び/又は電極触媒表面に塗布して又は吹き付けて両者を混合するか、又は固着剤の溶液中に含侵した後、乾燥させることで電極触媒の導電性担体への担持を達成し得る。また、導電性担体と焼成金属錯体を水等の溶媒中で混合し、水酸化ナトリウム等の塩基を添加することで、焼成金属錯体を導電性担体表面に析出させて担持させる方法も使用することができる。
燃料電池用電極を形成させる方法は、当該分野で公知の方法を用いることができる。例えば、電極触媒を担持した導電性担体をPTFEの分散液(例えば、Nafion(商標登録;Du Pont社)溶液)等と混合して、適当な形状に成型した後、熱処理を行って燃料電池用電極を形成することができる。PEFCやPAFCのように、固体高分子電解質膜や電解質マトリクス層の表面に電極形成をする場合には、前記混合液をシート状に成型し、形成された電極シートの膜接合面にプロトン伝導性を有するフッ素樹脂系イオン交換膜の溶液等を塗布又は含侵した後、膜両面に重ねてホットプレスして膜に接合すればよい。プロトン伝導性を有するフッ素樹脂系イオン交換膜には、例えば、Nafion、Filemion(登録商標;旭硝子社)等を使用することができる。
本発明によれば、Pt系触媒と比較して触媒活性能、耐久性及び耐食性が同等又はより高く、かつ従来のPt系触媒よりも低廉で、安定的に供給が可能である。
[実施例1]
(ガス拡散電極の作製)
導電性多孔質材料には市販のカーボンペーパー(気孔率70%、厚さ0.4mm)を用いた。ガス拡散性を向上させるためにカーボンペーパーの一方の面にポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)30wt%が分散した溶液をバーコーター法により塗布し、窒素雰囲気電気炉中で340℃の温度において20分間焼成して樹脂をカーボンペーパーに固着させ、撥水加工を施した。
炭酸水素ナトリウムNaHCO3と水酸化ナトリウムNaOHをイオン交換水に溶解させ、NaHCO3が飽和した条件において、pH値を種々変化させた。
ガス拡散電極1と、ガス拡散電極2とを互いに対向するように配置し、その間に陰イオン交換膜5(ネオセプタ(登録商標) AMX)を挟み込み、電解液3で満たした。電解液3は、ガス拡散電極1及びガス拡散電極2を介する他は外気に触れないように密閉し、ガス拡散電極1がカソード、ガス拡散電極2がアノードとなるように直流電源4に当該電極を接続した。これにより、当該二酸化炭素富化デバイスを得た。ガス拡散電極2から排出された二酸化炭素の量が観測できるように、ガス拡散電極2側には8 mL/cm2となるような容積の管付きガラス容器を取り付け、Oリングで排出されたガスが漏れないように密閉した。ガラス容器の管部分には、二酸化炭素検知器(固体電解質センサタイプ、分解能0.01%)を、排出されたガスが漏れないように取り付けた。室温、および系の温度は25℃とした。

実施例1と同様にして、電解液3のpHをNaOHの添加により種々変化させ、ガス拡散電極1とガス拡散電極2との間に1.2Vの直流電圧を印加して、ガス拡散電極2に取り付けたガラス容器内の二酸化炭素濃度を二酸化炭素検出器で測定することにより確認し、二酸化炭素の排出量を測定した。結果を表1に示す。
実施例5では、実施例1における電極触媒を以下の白金を用いない電極触媒に変え、そのほかは、実施例1と同様に検討を行った。
(実験例1)Co-2, 6-ジアミノピリジンポリマー(CoDAPP)触媒の調製
CoDAPP触媒は、本発明の第2実施形態の方法に従った。2, 6-ジアミノピリジンモノマー(Aldrich社)と酸化剤ペルオキシ二硫酸アンモニウム(APS)(Wako社)を1:1.5のモル比で混合し、撹拌した。具体的には、5.45gの2, 6-ジアミノピリジンと1gの水酸化ナトリウムを400mLの蒸留水に溶かし、その後27.6gのAPSと100mLの水を加えた。得られた混合物を5分間撹拌し、室温で12時間、2, 6-ジアミノピリジンを重合させた。重合反応後、得られた黒色の沈殿物を3000rpmで遠心して回収し、蒸留水で3回洗浄した。真空下で60℃にて数時間乾燥させて2, 6-ジアミノピリジンポリマーを得た。
実施例1で述べた図2に示した当該二酸化炭素富化デバイスの性能と、非特許文献1に示した多孔質高分子膜の透過速度の違いを利用した二酸化炭素促進輸送膜の二酸化炭素富化性能、および特許文献1に示した固体溶融塩を用いたデバイスの二酸化炭素富化性能を比較した結果を表1に示す。

Claims (10)
- 第1のガス拡散電極と、
前記第1のガス拡散電極から離間して配置された第2のガス拡散電極と、
前記第1のガス拡散電極と前記第2のガス拡散電極との間に位置する陰イオン交換膜と、
前記第1のガス拡散電極と前記第2のガス拡散電極との間に前記第1のガス拡散電極と前記第2のガス拡散電極とに接触して存在し、前記陰イオン交換膜により区分けされた電解液と、を有してなる二酸化炭素富化デバイスであって、
前記電解液は、溶媒と、該溶媒に溶解された溶質と、を含み、前記溶質が前記溶媒に溶解されて、炭酸、炭酸水素イオン、炭酸イオンの少なくとも一種を含む溶存無機炭素が生成されており、
前記第1のガス拡散電極での酸素還元反応により酸素が消費されることで、二酸化炭素の溶媒への溶解、電離反応により、溶存無機炭素が生成され、
前記溶質由来の溶存無機炭素、又は前記第1のガス拡散電極で生成された溶存無機炭素が前記陰イオン交換膜を介して前記第2のガス拡散電極へ輸送され、
第2のガス拡散電極での溶媒の酸化反応により当該第2のガス拡散電極近傍で溶媒から酸素が生成されるとともに、溶存無機炭素から二酸化炭素が生成される二酸化炭素富化デバイス。 - 前記第2のガス拡散電極から排出される二酸化炭素と酸素とのモル比率は、1:0.1~1:10であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。
- 前記陰イオン交換膜は、一価イオンの選択透過膜であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。
- 前記陰イオン交換膜により仕切られた第1の拡散電極側の電解液は、pHが7~12であり、
かつ、前記陰イオン交換膜により仕切られた第2の拡散電極側の電解液は、pHが、6~12であり、
かつ、前記電解液の前記第1の拡散電極側と前記第2の拡散電極側とのpH差が、-4~-0.01であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至3の何れかに記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。 - 前記電解液の電解質は、カチオンとしてLi+、Na+、K+の何れかを含み、アニオンとしてHCO3 -又はCO3 2-を含んでいることを特徴とする請求項1乃至4の何れかに記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。
- 前記第1のガス拡散電極と前記第2のガス拡散電極とは、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)層と、多孔質導電体と、電極触媒とを有して構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1乃至5の何れかに記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。
- 前記電極触媒は、
ジアミノピリジン、トリアミノピリジン、テトラアミノピリジン、ジアミノピリジン誘導体、トリアミノピリジン誘導体、テトラアミノピリジン誘導体からなる群から選択される一以上のモノマーの重合体、
又は前記重合体の変性物、
又は触媒金属、
の何れかを含む、金属錯体又は前記金属錯体の触媒成分を含み、
下記の(i)又は(ii)の少なくとも一つを満たすことを特徴とする請求項6に記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。
(i)X線光電子分光分析により分析した、窒素原子に配位した金属の含有率が0.4モル%以上である
(ii)X線光電子分光分析により、窒素原子に配位した金属の存在が認められ、かつ、窒素原子の含有率が6.0モル%以上である。 - 前記電極触媒は、
ジアミノピリジン、トリアミノピリジン、テトラアミノピリジンからなる群から選択される一以上のモノマーの重合体、
又は触媒金属からなる重合体金属錯体を焼成して成る焼成金属錯体、
又は前記焼成金属錯体の触媒成分
の何れかを含むことを特徴とする請求項6に記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。 - 前記第1の拡散電極側と前記第2の拡散電極側の電解液の少なくとも一方が、高分子ゲル電解質であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至8の何れかに記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。
- 前記第1の拡散電極側の電解液は、下記[化1]の反応を促進する炭酸脱水触媒を含むことを特徴とする請求項1乃至9の何れかに記載の二酸化炭素富化デバイス。
