Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for assisting a driver of a motor vehicle while navigating the same to a desired navigation destination.
  • a device may be provided as a mobile navigation device temporarily installed by the user in the motor vehicle or as a vehicle component permanently installed in the motor vehicle.

  • the navigation device uses the information from the associated data record to provide the user with corresponding driving instructions in the form of voice output or a display of the most favorable route on a display device.
  • the navigation device In order to make it easier for the user to find the data set for the desired navigation destination, the navigation device generally has a search facility. With this, the user can first narrow down the desired destination by entering a search criterion. Such a search criterion can be, for example, a component of the name of the location (eg the first three letters) that the user wishes to approach. The search device then searches out all those records for possible navigation destinations that meet the search criterion. From the found possible navigation destinations, the user can then select the desired destination. From DE 10 2008 027 960 A1 a two-stage search method is described for a navigation device. First of all, data sets for navigation destinations are searched for in a database of the navigation device, and then further information about an Internet connection is loaded for the data records found on the basis of Internet addresses contained therein.
