- the ONU can manage the EPON protocol frame, the OAM frame, and the user frame in different queues, and can transmit R by multiplexing the request amount for each queue.
- the OLT determines G based on the transmission request amount included in R from each ONU by various algorithms. In general, transmission request amounts are stacked in order from the queue with the highest priority as an allocation amount (transmission time allocation amount), and transmission of each ONU is performed so that the accumulated allocation amount does not exceed the grant cycle length. The start time and length are determined, and the determination result is notified to the ONU.

- FIG. 1 is a diagram illustrating a functional configuration example of a first embodiment of an OLT (optical terminal station apparatus) according to the present invention.
- the OLT of this embodiment includes a WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) coupler 1, an optical receiver 2, a burst reception CDR (Clock Data Recovery) 3, a PON processing processor 4, and an 802. It is composed of a 3az-compatible PHY (Physical Layer) 5 and an optical transmitter 6.
- the OLT of the present embodiment is connected to an ONU (Optical Subscriber Accommodating Device) and constitutes a PON system together with the ONU.
- ONU Optical Subscriber Accommodating Device
- the WDM coupler 1 performs demultiplexing on the optical signal of the light source wavelength transmitted from the OLT to the ONU via the PON interface and the optical signal of the light source wavelength received by the OLT from the ONU via the PON interface.
- the optical receiver 2 receives the burst optical signal transmitted from the ONU and converts the received optical signal into an electrical signal.
- the burst reception CDR 3 regenerates the clock and data based on the electrical signal converted by the optical receiver 2 and inputs the regenerated clock and data to the PON processor 4.
- the PON processor 4 extracts frames necessary for PON control based on input data as main signal processing in the upstream direction (from ONU to OLT), and extracts user data from the PON frame format to Ethernet (registered trademark). ) Convert to frame format and transfer to higher-level device interface side (802.3az compatible PHY5).
- the 802.3az compatible PHY 5 sends a frame output from the PON processor 4 to an upper device interface (an interface with a device that performs processing of an upper layer (MAC layer or higher)), and is standardized by IEEE 802.3az. It has a function to control LPI (Low Power Idle).
- the LPI state is shifted to the power saving state (LPI state) to reduce the power consumption of the processing unit of the PHY layer and the communication is started.
- LPI state the power saving state
- a signal transmitted from the host device interface side is input to the PON processing processor 4 via the 802.3az compatible PHY 5.
- the PON processing processor 4 multiplexes the PON control frame generated by itself and the signal input from the host device interface side as the main signal processing in the downstream (from OLT to ONU), and converts it into a PON frame.
- the optical transmitter 6 converts the electrical signal input from the PON processing processor 4 into an optical signal, and transmits the optical signal to the PON interface via the WDM coupler 1.
- the PON processing processor 4 includes a signal processing unit 41, a band allocation information management unit 42, an LPI transmission unit 43, a MUX (multiplexer) 44, a signal processing unit 45, and an upper layer processing unit 46.
- the signal processing unit 41 performs main signal processing on the upstream signal
- the signal processing unit 45 performs main signal processing on the downstream signal.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 has a dynamic bandwidth allocation function in the conventional PON system, manages empty slot information that is information on empty slots, and also has a frame transmission / reception function necessary for PON control.
- the upper layer processing means 46 performs various signal processing of layers higher than the MAC layer on the upstream signal processed by the signal processing unit 41.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 controls the LPI transmission function of the 802.3az compatible PHY 5 so as to shift the LPI transmission unit 43 to the LPI state based on the managed empty slot information. Instructs the transmission control signal to be issued and instructs the higher layer processing means 46 to enter the low power consumption mode.
- the MUX multiplexes the uplink signal and the LPI transmission control signal, and outputs the multiplexed signal to the 802.3az compatible PHY 5.
- the 802.3az compatible PHY 5 shifts to the LPI state based on the LPI transmission control signal.
- FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating an example of the power saving control method according to the present embodiment. The operation of this embodiment will be described with reference to FIG.
- grant cycle N which is the Nth grant cycle
- the frames transmitted in the uplink direction are only frames that terminate in the PON section such as MPCP frames and OAM frames. Yes, the majority of grant cycles are not assigned to ONUs.
- the OLT bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 grants a grant for the ONU for each grant cycle that is a predetermined period.
- the grant cycle is divided into two subcycles and managed, and a frame that terminates in the PON section such as an uplink transmission request (R) and an OAM frame (O) is assigned to the subcycle # 1, Assume that data for the ONU (user) is assigned to cycle # 2.
- R uplink transmission request
- O OAM frame
- 2 shows whether the LPI state or the LPI release state (LPI state release) is shown at the bottom, but as described above, in the LPI state, the upper layer processing means 46 is also in the low power consumption mode. In the LPI state cancellation, the upper layer processing means 46 also cancels the low power consumption mode.
- sub-cycle # 2 is an empty cycle (empty slot). In such a case, there is no frame to be transmitted to the host device interface side in the grant cycle N.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 of the OLT does not grant a grant to each ONU based on the contents of the transmission request received in the previous period (no bandwidth request for user frame) (does not allocate bandwidth for user data) In this way, it can be determined in the course of the bandwidth allocation process that there is no allocation to user data (there is an empty slot) in subcycle # 2 of grant cycle N.
- the band allocation information management unit 42 causes the upper layer processing unit 46 to use a clock gate for stopping the clock supply or a power gate for cutting off power.
- the low power consumption mode is set by such a method, and the LPI transmission unit 43 is instructed to transmit to the 802.3az compatible PHY 5 an LPI control signal that shifts to the LPI state. Then, the LPI transmission unit 43 transmits an LPI control signal to the 802.3az compatible PHY 5 based on the instruction, and the 802.3az compatible PHY 5 shifts to the LPI state based on the LPI control signal.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 of the OLT determines whether there is transmission data from each ONU in the grant cycle N + 1. If there is a frame to be transmitted to the upper device interface, the upper layer processing unit 46 is restored from the low power consumption mode and the LPI transmission unit 43 is instructed to release the LPI state.
- the LPI transmission unit 43 outputs an LPI control signal based on the instruction, and the 802.3az compatible PHY 5 releases the LPI state based on the LPI control signal.
- the OLT bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 does not restore the upper layer processing unit 46 from the low power consumption mode, and further sends it to the LPI transmission unit 43. Do not instruct to release the LPI state, or instruct the transition to the LPI state again, and maintain the Low Power state.
- the bandwidth allocation processing performed by the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 of the OLT is controlled by a local timer with a granularity of 16 ns included in the PON processing processor 4 of the OLT. Therefore, the arrival time of data transmitted from each ONU is approximately It can be controlled with the accuracy of the local timer.
- sub-cycle division method and allocation method are not limited to this, and any method may be used.
- the allocation section for the frame terminated in the PON section is divided from the allocation section for user data, and the frame terminated in the PON section is arranged at the beginning of the grant cycle, It is possible to promptly determine the low power consumption mode and the LPI state for the grant cycle.
- the LPI state is shifted.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 has consecutive empty slots. If there is a predetermined period or longer, it may be instructed to shift to the low power consumption mode or LPI state during the empty slot.
- LPI is used for power saving.
- the present invention is not limited to this, and any method for reducing the power on the higher-level device interface side (MAC layer and physical layer) can be used. It may be used.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 instructs to enter a power saving state when determining that there is no user data allocation, and determines that there is user data allocation.
- a return from the power saving state may be instructed.
- both the transition to the LPI state and the transition of the upper layer processing unit 46 to the low power consumption mode are performed. However, the transition of the upper layer processing unit 46 to the low power consumption mode is performed. You may make it implement only.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 determines whether or not to shift to the power saving state (LPI state and the low power consumption mode of the higher layer processing unit 46) during the bandwidth allocation process.
- the band allocation information management unit 42 has a function as a power saving transition determination unit that determines a shift to the power saving state.
- a power saving transition determination means may be provided.
- the power saving transition determination means obtains the amount of empty slots based on the transmission request, determines whether or not to shift to the power saving state, similarly to the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42, and sends it to the LPI transmission unit 43. To be instructed.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 determines whether there is an allocation for user data in the next grant cycle in the process of bandwidth allocation, and there is no allocation for user data. In such a case, it is instructed to shift to the power saving state, the upper layer processing unit 46 is set to the low power consumption mode, and the LPI transmission unit 43 outputs a signal for shifting to the LPI state based on the instruction. I made it. Therefore, power saving can be achieved based on the empty slot information. Specifically, in an empty slot that does not transmit data to the host device interface side, the host device interface side can be shifted to a power saving state. For example, when there is no user data transmission from the ONU over a plurality of grant cycles, the power saving state can be maintained for a long time, and low power consumption can be expected.
- FIG. FIG. 3 is a diagram illustrating a functional configuration example of the second embodiment of the OLT according to the present invention.
- the OLT of the present embodiment is the same as the OLT of the first embodiment except that the PON processing processor 4 of the OLT of the first embodiment is replaced with a PON processing processor 4a.
- the PON processor 4a is the same as the PON processor 4 of the first embodiment except that a buffer 47 and a selector (SEL) 48 are added to the PON processor 4 of the first embodiment.

- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 performs the power saving control based on the information on the empty slots obtained in the process of the bandwidth allocation processing has been described.
- the power saving state I is provided with a buffer 47 for accumulating upstream user data transmitted from each ONU.
- FIG. 4 is a diagram for explaining the operation when data is stored in the buffer 47. As shown in FIG. 4, in the present embodiment, several cycles of data are accumulated in the buffer 47 until a predetermined buffer residence time elapses or until the buffer accumulation amount exceeds a predetermined threshold, and the accumulated data is collected. Read and send to host device interface.
- the buffer 47 performs any operation of whether or not to accumulate the user frame output from the signal processing unit 41 based on an instruction from the band allocation information management unit 42.
- the selector 48 selects one of the data stored in the buffer 47 and the data output from the signal processing unit 41 based on the band allocation information management unit 42 and outputs the selected data to the MUX 44.
- the arrangement of the buffers is not limited to this, and may be mounted at an optimal position as necessary.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 determines whether or not data is intermittently transmitted based on a transmission request from the ONU, and the data is allowed to be delayed when intermittently transmitted.
- the buffer 47 is instructed to store data.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 instructs the buffer 47 to stop data accumulation when the buffer buffer retention time or the buffer accumulation amount exceeds a preset threshold, and instructs the selector 48 to stop data accumulation.
- the selector 48 selects and outputs the data output from the signal processing unit 41.
- Whether data is transmitted intermittently is determined to be transmitted intermittently, for example, when the amount of data transmitted within one grant cycle is less than a predetermined threshold.
- this threshold value is set to a value that is half or less of the data that can be transmitted within one grant cycle.
- bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 instructs the accumulation of data in the buffer 47 and the selection of the output of the selector 48 as described above, buffering is performed when data is intermittently received. If the upstream transmission request from the ONU becomes large, the LPI state on the host device interface side is canceled before the upstream user data in the next period arrives, and the buffered frame is transmitted after all the buffered frames are transmitted. It is also possible to perform control such as stopping the ring and switching to continuous transmission (transmission without buffering).
- the data is stored in the buffer 47, and the predetermined value is stored.
- the data accumulated in the buffer 47 is read out and transmitted to the upper layer apparatus interface after the buffer residence time elapses or when the buffer accumulation amount exceeds a predetermined threshold. Therefore, in addition to the effects of the first embodiment, it is possible to secure a long section for the power saving state when uplink user data is transmitted intermittently, and efficient power saving can be expected.
- FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating a functional configuration example of the third embodiment of the OLT according to the present invention.

- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 manages reception times of MPCP control frames, OAM control frames, and user frames.
- FIG. 6 is a diagram for explaining a control method of the power supply unit 9 according to the present embodiment.
- grant cycle N it is necessary to receive data by receiving only the section of subcycle # 1 that receives control frames (MPCP control frame, OAM control frame, etc.), and grant is granted for subcycle # 2.
- grant cycle # 2 There is no need to receive data because it is not given.
- power is supplied to the optical receiver 2 and the burst reception CDR 3 in the subcycle # 1 section in which it is necessary to receive data, and in the other section (subcycle # 2), the optical receiver 2 and the burst are supplied.
- the period during which the power is turned on may be made longer by a predetermined period before and after the period in which data is received in consideration of the start-up time and processing time.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 notifies the power supply control unit 49 of empty slot information, and the power supply control unit 49 instructs the switches 7 and 8 to stop the supply of the section slot power supply. To do. Then, the power supply control unit 49 instructs the switches 7 and 8 to start supplying power when the empty slot section ends. Based on the instruction, the switches 7 and 8 stop supplying power to the optical receiving unit 2 and the burst receiving CDR 3 or start supplying power.
- the operations of the present embodiment other than those described above are the same as those of the second embodiment.
- the power supply to the optical receiver 2 and the burst reception CDR 3 is controlled.
- the power supply is similarly controlled to the user data processing function unit of the signal processing unit 41. Also good.

- the power save function unit 21 of the OLT 20 returns a SLEEP permission that permits the ONU 10-1 to shift to the power saving mode (step S13).
- the ONU 10-1 that has received the SLEEP permission shifts to the SLEEP state (step S14).
- the power saving function unit 21 of the OLT 20 transmits the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 to the ONU 10-1. It is notified that the logical link is in the power saving state (step S15). If there is a grant assigned to the ONU 10-1, the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 deletes the grant (step S16). When a plurality of ONUs connected to the OLT 20 shift to this state, the number of idle cycles increases.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 determines whether or not to shift to the LP (Low Power: power saving state) state based on the empty slot information during the bandwidth allocation process. (Step S17).
- the ONU 10-1 recovers from the SLEEP state when transmission data is generated (step S18). For example, the OLT 20 inquires of the ONU 10-1 periodically whether the SLEEP has been canceled after the power save function unit 11 returns the SLEEP permission to the ONU 10-1. The OLT 20 recognizes that the SLEEP of the ONU 10-1 has been canceled by the inquiry. Then, the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 of the OLT 20 resumes grant allocation to the ONU 10-1 (step S19), and the power saving function unit 21 of the OLT 20 instructs the ONU 10-1 to cancel the SLEEP state. A release is transmitted (step S20). When receiving the SLEEP cancellation, the power save function unit 11 of the ONU 10-1 returns a SLEEP cancellation response (step S21). Then, the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 of the OLT 20 performs LP determination based on the new bandwidth allocation information (step S22).
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 determines whether or not the free bandwidth is greater than or equal to a predetermined set value (step S31).
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 instructs the power saving function unit 21 to shift to the low power state, and the power saving function unit 21 saves the power.
- Low power control is performed according to the protocol (step S32), and the mode shifts to the power saving mode.
- the bandwidth allocation information management unit 42 instructs the power save function unit 21 to cancel the low power state, and the power save function unit 21 saves the power.
- the low power state is canceled according to the protocol (step S33).
- the setting value used for the determination in step S31 does not have to be single, and may be plural.
- the operations of the first and third embodiments can be implemented, and either the operation of the first or third embodiment is selected and executed according to the amount of free bandwidth.
- the OLT 20 may include the buffer 47 and the selector 48 so that the operation of the second embodiment can be performed, and the operation of the second embodiment may be performed in addition to the present operation.
- the OLT 20 when the ONUs 10-1 to 10-M and the OLT 20 support the power protocol, the OLT 20 is based on the SLEEP notification notified from the ONUs 10-1 to 10-M.
- the grant for the ONU that transmitted the SLEEP notification is deleted and the grant is reassigned, the OLT 20 notifies the ONEEP in the SLEEP state of the cancellation of the SLEEP. Therefore, the same effects as those of the first embodiment can be obtained, and the OLT 20 can perform power saving control in cooperation with the power saving states of the ONUs 10-1 to 10-M.
- the optical terminal device according to the present invention is useful for a PON system, and is particularly suitable for a PON system that requires power saving.
