Actually, since the diffraction grating layer 209 diffracts, the incident angle with respect to the refracting surface 205a becomes smaller than the critical angle like the light 210c and can be transmitted.
- the diffraction direction by the diffraction grating will be described with reference to FIG.
- a diffraction grating having a pitch ⁇ is formed along the paper surface.
- a circle 211 having a radius n A and a circle 212 having a radius n B are drawn on the paper surface with the point O as the center.
- An orthogonal vector (vector from the perpendicular foot A to the point O) onto the refracting surface 207a of the incident vector 210i (a vector starting from the circumference of the circle 211 toward the point O at an angle ⁇ ) is 210I
- the point O is A vector 210r having an end point on the circumference of the circle 212 as a start point is drawn so that the orthogonal projection vector 210R is the same as the vector 210I.
- q is a diffraction order (integer).
- the azimuth angle ⁇ angle formed with the refractive surface normal
- n B ⁇ sin ⁇ n A ⁇ sin ⁇ (Formula 4)
- a light ray 210b assumed not to be diffracted corresponds to a refracted light ray
- the diffracted light ray 210c is displaced from the light ray 210b by q ⁇ / ⁇ to avoid total reflection on the refractive surface 205a. become. Therefore, since light that should be totally reflected can be extracted, it can be considered that an improvement in light extraction efficiency can be expected as compared with an organic EL light emitting device that does not have a diffraction grating layer.
- a critical angle is formed on the refractive surface 205a of the transparent substrate 205 like the light 210B.
- the light is incident at the following angle and refracted through the refracting surface 205a, it is actually diffracted by the diffraction grating layer 209, so that the incident angle with respect to the refracting surface 205a becomes larger than the critical angle like the light 210C.
- the light enters the refracting surface 205a at an angle greater than the critical angle and is totally reflected.
- diffracted light whose azimuth is uniformly shifted by q ⁇ / ⁇ is generated for all light rays.
- the light including such diffracted light has a distribution in light intensity depending on the direction, and the shift width q ⁇ / ⁇ depends on the wavelength ⁇ of the emitted light, so there is a color imbalance depending on the direction in which the light is emitted. That is, light of different colors can be seen depending on the viewing direction, which is inconvenient as a light source for display applications.
- Patent Document 2 a light emitting device using an organic EL element in which a protrusion 315 is provided on the surface of a transparent substrate 305 shown in FIG. 6 was studied.
- an electrode 302, a light emitting layer 303, a transparent electrode 304, and a transparent substrate 305 are laminated in this order on a substrate 301, and a plurality of protrusions 315 are formed on a surface 305a of the transparent substrate 305.
- the protrusions 315 have a quadrangular prism shape with a width w and a height h, and are arranged at random positions on the transparent substrate surface 305a as shown in FIG. 6B.
- the size of w is in the range of 0.4 to 20 ⁇ m
- the size of h is in the range of 0.4 to 10 ⁇ m
- such protrusions 315 are formed with a density in the range of 5000 to 1000000 pieces / mm 2 .
- the actual protrusion 315 can be processed to become thinner as it goes to the tip by side etching, and even if there is no side etching, the effective refractive index takes a value near the middle between the transparent substrate 305 and air.
- the refractive index distribution can be changed gently. Therefore, since the distribution is close to the refractive index distribution shown in FIG. 3B, the projection 315 can partially prevent the reflection of light as indicated by 310e, and as a result, the light extraction efficiency can be improved. Can do. Even if the size of the protrusions 315 is set to be equal to or greater than the wavelength, the protrusions 315 are arranged at random, so that interference of the extracted light can be suppressed.
- the inventors of the present application further studied how to reduce the amount of light totally reflected on the refracting surface and increase the amount of light that can be extracted.
- FIG. 7 schematically shows boundary conditions of the light field on the refracting surface, and considers the case where light having a width w is incident on the refracting surface T.
- FIG. 7 From Maxwell's equation, the integration along path A that goes around the refractive surface T with respect to the electric field vector or magnetic field vector is zero. However, it is a precondition that there is no electric charge or light source in the peripheral circuit, and the intensity and phase of the electric field vector or magnetic field vector along the refracting surface T are continuous.
- the width t orthogonal to the refracting surface can be made negligibly smaller than the width s along the refracting surface. Only the ingredients remain. From this relationship, it is required that the electric field vector or magnetic field vector is continuous across the refractive surface.
- the Fresnel equation is derived using this continuity relationship, and the reflection, refraction law, total reflection phenomenon, etc. are completely solved by this equation.
- the width t cannot be ignored when the light width w is reduced to several tens of times the wavelength or less.
- the circular integral A is divided into B and C (see FIG. 7C)
- the circular integral B is included in the luminous flux and becomes zero. Since the remaining circular integration C has zero electric field vector or magnetic field vector outside the luminous flux, only the integral value of the path PQ in the luminous flux remains (see FIG. 7D). Accordingly, the circulation integral C is not zero, and is equivalent to light emission in the calculation circuit.
- the circular integrals C and C ′ are close to each other and the paths PQ and Q′P ′ are overlapped. The circular integration of 'is zero, and no light is emitted in the circuit.
- the circular integration C is twice the integration in the path PQ. This is equivalent to the fact that light is emitted within the circuit. Therefore, light is generated near the boundary of the width even when not only narrow light but also light with different phases is arranged through a narrow width (this is a phenomenon that effectively behaves as light emission, not actual light emission). Yes, it is called the boundary diffraction effect because it resembles the phenomenon called boundary diffraction proposed by Young before the establishment of diffraction theory).
- the inventors of the present application have studied the structure of the refracting surface for actually causing the phenomenon that light is transmitted even when the critical angle is exceeded, from the above consideration results.

- the transmitted light leaking from the side is collected by the condenser lens system 50, and the transmitted light amount is measured by the photodetector 51.
- the portion of the light-shielding film corresponding to 1 ⁇ 2 of the entire area is shielded, and the amount of transmitted light is 1 ⁇ 2 compared to that using a phase shifter. Is normalized by the amount of light incident on (a half of the total amount of light). - blue and red are assigned at random, and the red assigned region (small region ⁇ 2 ) is engraved by a method such as etching by a depth of d 2 (> 0).
- the region assigned with blue is the minute region ⁇ 1 .
- the overlap of black and blue is the height d 1 + d 2 and the overlap of white and blue is the reference surface.
- the height d 2 or the overlap of black and red can be the height d 1 . Accordingly, since the step can take four values between 0 and d 1 + d 2 a (0, d 1, d 2 , d 1 + d 2) at random, the same effect as the third embodiment is obtained .
- the ratio P 2 corresponds to the deeper side of the engraving width (actually, the ratio P 2 side is 2, the ratio The P 1 side is related to the average depth with a weight of 1), and has the same meaning as the ratio P 2 of the fourth embodiment that determines the area ratio of unevenness, that is, the average level of depth.
- the ratio P 1 is related to the appearance ratio of the fine structure (width w 1 ), it has a similar meaning to the ratio P 1 of the fourth embodiment.
- the surface of the transparent substrate 5 is divided into grids of squares of width w 3 (square minute areas ⁇ ), and the ratio that each eye is green is P 3 , and the ratio that yellow is 1-P 3.
- Green and yellow are assigned to the region, and the region (small region ⁇ 2 ) assigned with yellow is engraved by a method such as etching by a depth of d 3 (> 0).
- the region assigned with green is the minute region ⁇ 1 .
- the overlap of black, blue and green with respect to this reference surface is the height d 1 + d 2 + d 3
- the overlap of white, blue and green is at height d 2 + d 3
- the overlap of black, blue and yellow is at height d 1 + d 2
- the overlap of black, red and green is at height d 1 + d 3

- phase shifter can be formed of multilayer films having different refractive indexes, for example. That is, the phase of transmitted light can be adjusted by multiple reflection of the multilayer film, and a 180 degree region and a 0 degree region can be formed randomly by changing the structure (film thickness and number of layers) of the multilayer film. The same effect can be obtained even if the polarization of light transmitted through the two regions is changed using a polarizer.
- the polarized light of the transmitted light corresponding to the 180-degree region is P-polarized or clockwise circularly polarized light
- the polarized light of the transmitted light corresponding to the 0-degree region is S-polarized light or circularly polarized light counterclockwise.
- this can be realized by using a half-wave plate whose orientation is 90 degrees different.
- the uneven structure of the interface having a difference in refractive index as in the first embodiment can be said to be one form of the phase shifter because the phase of transmitted light changes between the unevenness.
- FIGS. 9 and 19B The incident angle dependency of the transmittance t and the light extraction efficiency of the surface structure 13 in this embodiment are already shown in FIGS. 9 and 19B (curves 5d and 5D), and only the first light extraction efficiency is obtained. However, it is possible to exceed the light extraction efficiency when w is a mirror surface within the range of 0.4 ⁇ m to 1 ⁇ m.
- FIG. 19B also shows the result of setting the phase difference to 90 degrees, and the first and second light extraction efficiencies are represented by curves 5d ′ and 5D ′, respectively. Since both are deteriorated from those having a phase difference of 180 degrees (curves 5d, 5D), it is understood that the optimum value of the phase difference is 180 degrees.
- the light extraction efficiency higher than that of the conventional example can be obtained by forming the surface structure 13 with the phase shifter. Further, as in the first embodiment, there is no light intensity distribution or color imbalance depending on the orientation, and the reflection of an image of the outside world can be suppressed.

- seat 32 is not arrange
- the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold 31 shown in FIG. 28 (a) and the sheet 32 shown in FIG. 28 (b) do not show a pattern on the entire surface, but only a part of the pattern.
- a pattern be formed on the entire outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold 31.

- the sheet 31c for example, a multilayer sheet in which a UV curable resin is coated on a plastic substrate is used.
- the sheet 31c is sandwiched between the cylindrical mold 31 and another roller 31d, and the cylindrical mold 31 is rotated in this state.

- the distance between the sheet material roll on the feeding side and the winding side roll, the rotation speed, and the like are adjusted so that the pressure on the sheet 31c is applied.
- the cylindrical mold 31 is rotated in a state where one surface of the multilayer sheet 31c in which the UV curable resin is coated on the plastic substrate is pressed against the cylindrical mold 31.
- the pattern of the cylindrical mold 31 may be transferred while moving the sheet 31c, or the pattern of the cylindrical mold 31 may be transferred while moving the cylindrical mold 31.
- the UV curable resin is cured by irradiating the UV light, and thereby the uneven pattern on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold 31 is transferred to the surface of the sheet 31c that is in contact with the cylindrical mold 31.
- the line-shaped transfer pattern of the minute region ⁇ uses a roll-to-roll method using a cylindrical mold arranged in a spiral shape, and thus such discontinuity between the patterns does not occur. .
- FIGS. 29A to 29C are diagrams showing other arrangement examples of the minute regions ⁇ on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold.
- square microregions ⁇ (width w ⁇ length w) are arranged in two rows in the width direction.

- the positions of the region 34X and the region 34Y in the direction y ′ are shifted from each other.
- a similar relationship is also established in the minute region ⁇ other than the regions 34W, 34X, 34Y, and 34Z.

- the minute region ⁇ is arranged in a spiral shape, the displacement of the minute region ⁇ is usually every certain row. Therefore, when the minute region ⁇ of the present embodiment is, for example, a region of m rows and n columns, the positions of the n ⁇ 1 column regions in the y ′ direction coincide, and the positions of only the remaining one column in the y ′ direction are the same. Thereafter, etching is performed using the resist as a mask to form an uneven pattern on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold 31.
- a resist is applied to the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold 31 by an ink jet method to form a resist pattern. Thereafter, etching is performed using the resist as a mask to form an uneven pattern on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold 31.
- die 31 does not need to be the same height with respect to the reference plane in an outer peripheral surface, The convex part of several height is mixed in the one cylindrical metal mold
- FIG. Also good.
- die 31 does not need to be the same hollow depth with respect to the reference plane in an outer peripheral surface, and the recessed part of several depth may be mixed in the one cylindrical metal mold
- the arrangement of the minute regions ⁇ 1 and ⁇ 2 in a preset specific angle direction (y ′ direction in which the minute regions ⁇ 1 and ⁇ 2 are randomly arranged one-dimensionally on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical mold 31).
- the rules for the arrangement of the minute regions ⁇ 1 and ⁇ 2 in the x ′ direction do not matter. Even if there is a shift in the position in the y ′ direction of the minute region ⁇ adjacent in the x ′ direction as in the patterns shown in FIGS. 27C and 27D, the pattern shown in FIG. Even if there is no deviation, it is the same.
- the minute regions ⁇ having a random arrangement are spirally arranged, so that the minute region ⁇ 1 in the x ′ direction is arranged.
- ⁇ 2 arrangement is also random.
- the above-described embodiments are examples of the present invention, and the present invention is not limited to these examples.
- the cross-sectional shape perpendicular to the surface of the convex portion of the surface structure is not limited to the rectangular shape, but may be a trapezoid or a cone shape, and the slope of the convex portion may be a curve.
- the transparent substrate 5 on which the surface structure 13 is formed is formed to be as thin as several ⁇ m, and a protective substrate of about 0.2 mm to 0.5 mm with an air layer interposed therebetween.
- the structure covered with 14 can be considered. Total reflection does not occur on the front surface 14a and the back surface 14b of the protective substrate, but AR coating is necessary.
- a transparent material having a low refractive index such as airgel may be used on the surface structure 13 instead of the air layer.
- the surface structure 13 is formed on only one surface, but a similar structure can be formed on both surfaces of the transparent substrate 5. Further, a general diffraction grating 13 ′ may be disposed between the surface structure 13 and the light emitting point S. At this time, as shown in FIG. 30 (b), the transparent substrate 5 is formed into a film shape, the surface structure 13 is formed on the front surface, the diffraction grating 13 ′ and the surface structure 13 ′′ of another specification are formed on the back surface, and the adhesive layer 21 is formed on the light emitter side.
- the material of the adhesive layer 21 is determined from the refractive index of the light emitting layer 3. If it is selected so that it is smaller by 0.1 or more, total reflection on the respect surface of the adhesive layer 21 and the light emitting layer 3 hardly occurs, and the refractive surface between the adhesive layer 21 and the transparent substrate 5 and transparent Total reflection occurring on the refractive surface between the substrate 5 and the air 6 can be avoided by the surface structure 13 ′′ (or the diffraction grating 13 ′) and the surface structure 13, respectively.
- the depth of the concave portion or the height of the convex portion of the diffraction grating 13 ′ or the surface structure 13 ′′ is preferably a condition that a phase difference is generated by ⁇ between the transmitted light in the concave portion and the transmitted light in the convex portion.
- the conditions may be such that the depth of the concave and the height of the convex are small.
- FIG. 31 shows a pattern diagram in which the surface structure forms a checkered pattern (checker shape).
- the surface structure divides the surface of the transparent substrate 5 into squares having a length w of one side, the gray squares 13a and the white squares 13b form a checker pattern, gray is convex, and white is relatively Concave shape.
- the first and second light extraction efficiencies of the surface structure having the checker shape and the surface structure having the staggered lattice (the side surrounded by the quadrangle is concave) shown in FIG. It is added to FIG. 19B (d 0.70 ⁇ m, curves 5e, 5f, 5E, 5F, respectively).
- both the checker pattern and the zigzag pattern show undulating characteristics as w changes. This is also a problem specific to the periodic pattern, and is related to the distribution of light intensity depending on the orientation.
- FIG. 34 (a) and 34 (b) show the results of analyzing the viewing angle dependence of the first extracted light emitted from the surface structure of the checker pattern.
- Step d 0.7 ⁇ m
- boundary width w 0.5 ⁇ m
- the boundary diffraction effect occurs when the discontinuous part of the light phase is separated by a certain distance or more, in order to maximize this effect, the appearance ratio of the discontinuous part of the phase within the limited area is set. It is necessary to maximize it. If the refractive surface is divided into innumerable minute regions and the phase becomes discontinuous at the boundaries between the minute regions, the aforementioned appearance ratio is maximized under two conditions. The first condition is that the area of each minute region is as uniform as possible, and the second condition is that a phase difference exists between adjacent minute regions. That is, if there is a small area having a larger area than others, dividing the large area increases the boundary of phase discontinuity.
- the boundary increases.
- the area of each micro area is aligned as much as possible, and at least the area of each micro area is 0.5 to 1.5 times the reference area (the maximum of the circles inscribed in the micro area) If the diameter of the material falls within the range of 0.7 to 1.3 times the standard diameter, the appearance ratio of the boundary line between the microregions is maximized.
- the first to seventh embodiments comply with this condition. Even if the division into the minute regions can be maximized, the effect is reduced if the phases are aligned between the adjacent minute regions.
- the fourth and fifth embodiments comply with this condition. That is, in the light emitting device of the above embodiment, the extraction efficiency is improved by the effect of maximizing the boundary diffraction effect rather than the effect of antireflection as in the light emitting device described in Patent Document 2.
- the surface shape in the first to eighth embodiments is different from the surface state such as frosted glass or roughened surface and the surface state shown in the light emitting device described in Patent Document 2.
- the surface is divided into grid eyes (or polygonal eyes) having a width w, and convex and concave portions are assigned to each eye in a ratio of 1: 1.
- the surface state such as frosted glass or roughened surface does not have an inherent width w, and the shape of the micro area is indefinite, and the ratio of the total area of the convex part to the total area of the concave part is also 1: 1. It's not a relationship.
- the ratio between the convex and concave portions is shifted from 50%, and the ratio of the total area of the concave portions to the total area of the convex portions is out of 1: 1, but the inherent width w still exists,
- the ratio of the total area to the total area of the protrusions is also a predetermined value, which is completely different from a completely random pattern.
- the step is different for each grid (or polygonal) defined by the width w.
- the surface shape in the above embodiment is not a completely random pattern but a random pattern according to a certain rule.
- FIG. 33A eight cards 17 having a width w are randomly arranged on a table 16 having a width 4w. That is, the total area of the eight cards 17 is 1 ⁇ 2 of the area of the table 16. However, it is assumed that the card 17 does not protrude from the table 16.
- FIG. 33 (b) the cards 17 are arranged to allow overlapping.
- FIG. 33C the cards 17 are arranged without allowing overlapping.
- FIG. 33B the total area of the cards becomes smaller than 1 ⁇ 2 of the table area by the amount of overlapping of the cards 17. It has already been shown by the curves 27a and 27A in FIG.
- the generation principle of the random pattern used in the above embodiment is different from that in FIG.
- the area ratio is maintained at a certain ratio, and a scale smaller than the width w such as the minute interval j does not occur.
- the surface shape in the above embodiment is not a completely random pattern, but a random pattern according to a rule for maximizing light extraction efficiency.
- the phenomenon caused by the surface shape in the first to eighth embodiments is one of diffraction phenomena.
- a light beam that is virtually refracted with respect to a flat reference surface that averages the surface shape is defined as 0th-order diffracted light (not appearing in the case of total reflection), and this light is used as a reference for orientation.
- 0th-order diffracted light not appearing in the case of total reflection
- higher-order diffracted light is generated in the shifted direction.
- the propagation direction of the diffracted light other than the 0th order is random.
- frosted glass and surface roughening are not diffraction phenomenon but one of refraction phenomena.
- the direction of the surface normal is random on the refracted surface, and the refraction direction is also random. is there. That is, the surface shape in the first to seventh embodiments is formed on a parallel plate, and when viewed through, the outline of the opposite image can be clearly seen. This means that 0th-order diffracted light always exists in the light that is diffracted and separated by the surface shape, and this light maintains the contour of the image on the opposite side. On the other hand, in the case of frosted glass or surface roughening, there is no light corresponding to the 0th-order diffracted light, and the outline of the image on the opposite side becomes blurred when viewed through.
- Patent Document 2 interprets the word “obedient” as Snell's law (the law of refraction) without the expression of “diffraction” because there is only the expression “obediently radiated into the air” by the protrusions on the surface. In that sense, it can be understood that it falls into the same category as frosted glass and surface roughening, and can be said to be different from the present invention.
- the feature of the technique disclosed in Patent Document 2 is that a plurality of transparent protrusions are arranged completely randomly on the transparent insulating substrate, and the protrusion and the recess have the same shape as in the present application.
- the existence ratio of the convex part and the concave part is a specific ratio as one or more aggregates of minute regions.
- the structure in which the concave portion and the convex portion are interchanged or the structure in which the height and depth of the minute region are interchanged is substantially the same as the original structure, but the light emitting device described in Patent Document 2 Not so.
- Patent Document 2 describes the remarkable effect as in the above embodiment. Absent.
- protrusions having a number of 5000 to 10 6 pieces / mm 2 per unit area and a width of 0.4 to 20 ⁇ m are given in a completely random arrangement.
- the phase of light is shifted in a concavo-convex shape.
- the phase shift can be realized in a shape other than the uneven shape.
- the thickness of the multilayer film and the refractive index condition can be changed in the region corresponding to the concave portion and the region corresponding to the convex portion. Even in this case, it is needless to say that the same effect as the above embodiment can be obtained.
- the first to eighth embodiments are not independently established, but a part of each may be combined to form a new example.
- the organic electroluminescence element has been described as an example. However, the present invention can be applied to any element that emits light in a medium having a refractive index larger than 1.
- the medium from which the light emitting device emits light is not limited to air.
- the surface structure of the above embodiment can be applied when the refractive index of the transparent substrate is larger than the refractive index of the medium with which the transparent substrate is in contact, particularly 0.1 or more.
- the light-emitting device according to the present invention is useful as a display, a light source, and the like because it greatly improves the light extraction efficiency and also has good viewing angle characteristics of the emitted light.
