- Ultraviolet rays are electromagnetic waves with a wavelength of 100 to 400 nm emitted by the sun. Based on the length of the wavelength, long wavelength ultraviolet rays (400 to 315 nm, called UVA), medium wavelength ultraviolet rays (315 to 280 nm, UVB) And short-wavelength ultraviolet (280-100 nm, referred to as UVC). It is known that ultraviolet rays are more damaging to a living body as the wavelength is shorter, for example, are more cytotoxic due to peroxidation or genetic damage, and the longer the wavelength, the deeper the skin is affected. On the other hand, some of the mid-wavelength UVB and short-wavelength UVC are absorbed by the ozone layer in the atmosphere, and the UV that reaches the earth's surface is a long-wavelength UVA and a small amount of UVB.
