 コバルト(Co)を含有し柱状に成長した結晶粒子の間に非磁性物質からなる粒界部を形成したグラニュラー構造の磁気記録層22と、面方向に磁気的に連続した薄膜からなる連続層24とを備える垂直磁気記録媒体において、連続層24はコバルト、クロム(Cr)、プラチナ(Pt)を含有する複数の層24a、24bを含み、複数の層のうち、磁気記録層に近い層24aほどクロム含量が大きいことを特徴とする。
