Abstract

 複数の走査電極(SCi)には、第1の期間(t5~t6)で第1の電位(Vscn)から第2の電位(Vscn+Vset)に上昇する第1のランプ波形(RW1)が印加され、複数の維持電極(SUi)には、前記第1の期間(t5~t6)よりも前に第3の電位(Ve1)から第4の電位(0V)に下降する駆動波形が印加され、前記第1の期間(t5~t6)において前記第4の電位(0V)に保持される。このとき、複数のデータ電極(Dj)には、前記第1の期間(t5~t6)の開始時点(t5)と同時に開始し、かつ前記第1の期間(t5~t6)よりも短い第2の期間(t5~t5a) に、前記第1のランプ波形(RW1)の電位の変化に従って第5の電位(0V)から第6の電位(Vd)に上昇する第2のランプ波形(RW10)が印加され、前記複数の走査電極(SCi)との間で強放電が発生することが防止される。
