Abstract
二枚のガラス基板の間に複数の表示領域を設けた貼合せガラス基板を、個々の表示領域に切断分離した基板セルを使用する表示装置である。基板セルの周縁端面は、物理的に形成された切断面がその後の化学研磨処理によって滑面化されており、滑面化された周縁端面は、基板セルの表面に直交するXY平面上で600μm2以上に設定された仮想的な平坦基準面積S0と、平坦基準面積S0の輪郭で確定される周縁端面の計測領域について算出される判定面積Sとの面積比R=S/S0が1.2未満に平坦化されている。判定面積は、X方向にh=90/1024μm、Y方向にv=67/768μmのピッチでn*m個に区分される計測領域の全体について、XY平面に直交する方向の高さT(i,j)を特定して、表面の凹凸形状を台形近似して算出される表面積である。本発明の表示装置は、製造効率や製造コストを特別に変化させることなく、機械的強度を極限的に高める。
