Abstract

 電気光学効果を有する基板と、前記基板上に形成された光導波路と、前記光導波路内を導波する光波を変調するための複数の変調用電極とを具え、前記光導波路は、前記光波の進行方向において2つに分岐して2本のメイン光導波を構成し、各メイン光導波路は前記光波の前記進行方向においてさらに2つに分岐して2本のサブ光導波路を構成し、前記2本のメイン光導波路は、メインマッハツエンダー型光導波路を構成するとともに、前記2本のサブ光導波路は、前記メインマッハツエンダー型光導波路内に組み込まれるようにしてサブマッハツエンダー型光導波路を構成し、前記基板の、相対向して位置する2つの前記サブマッハツエンダー型光導波路間において、熱伝導抑止領域を有するようにして光導波路素子を構成する。
