Abstract

 本発明は、繰り返し駆動時の白の色調変動が低減された表示素子の駆動方法を提供する。この表示素子の駆動方法は、対向電極間に、銀または銀を化学構造中に含む化合物を含有する電解質を含有し、銀の溶解析出を生じさせるように該対向電極の駆動操作を行う表示素子の駆動方法であって、黒表示に必要な印加を、該対向電極に対し下記式(1)を満たす条件でパルス印加を行うことを特徴とする。    式(1) 1/100≦TBP/TW≦1/5 〔式中、TBPは、黒化に必要な印加方向への印加における1つの印加パルスの時間幅(ms)を表し、TWは該印加パルスを用いて黒化した後に、白化に必要な印加方向への印加時間の総和(ms)を表す。〕
