Abstract

【課題】赤色の蛍光を発する量子効率の高い蛍光体およびその製法ならびに波長変換器、発光装置、照明装置を提供する。 【解決手段】蛍光体は、M1(M1はBa、またはBaとSr、あるいはBaとCa)、Eu、Mg、MnおよびSiを必須成分として含有する。Si 1モルに対するEuのモル比が0.14以下であり、Si 1モルに対するMnのモル比が0.07以下である。主結晶がEu、Mnが固溶したM1 3MgSi2O8であり、M1 3MgSi2O8結晶、M1 2MgSi2O7結晶、M1 2SiO4結晶およびM1MgSiO4結晶のX線回折強度をそれぞれA、B、CおよびDとしたとき、B/(A+B+C+D)が0.1以下、C/(A+B+C+D)が0.1以下、D/(A+B+C+D)が0.26以下である。
