Abstract

　降圧チョッパ回路（１）と、降圧チョッパ回路（１）の出力を矩形波交番電圧に変換して放電ランプ（Ｌａ）に印加する極性反転回路（２）とからなる電力変換回路と、前回の点灯時における電力変換回路の出力の履歴を記憶するメモリ部（４１ｆ）とを有し、制御回路（４）は、降圧チョッパ回路（１）、極性反転回路（２）のスイッチング素子（Ｑ１～Ｑ５）のオン・オフを制御することによって、メモリ部（４１ｆ）の履歴に基づいて、点灯開始から安定点灯に達するまでの所定期間に電力変換回路の出力を変化させることで、ランプ電圧Ｖｌａの上昇を抑制し、ランプの長寿命化や、アークジャンプの発生抑制を可能にする。
