Definitions
- the present invention relates to an ultraviolet transmissive glass composition having excellent productivity, and in particular, an ultraviolet transmissive glass composition that can be suitably used as a material for a bioanalytical instrument such as a microplate, and the use thereof. And related glass articles.
- Japanese Laid-Open Patent Publication No. 2002-171988 discloses a method for analyzing DNA with high accuracy by measuring the absorbance of ultraviolet rays having a wavelength of 260 nm.
- an organic solvent such as isooctane may be used as a solvent. Therefore, it is required to use materials that are not affected by organic solvents for instruments used for such analysis.
- a synthetic resin such as polystyrene having excellent processability is generally used as the material for the above-described analytical instrument.
- these synthetic resins are not sufficient in durability against organic solvents as they are, and when the durability against organic solvents is improved, the transmittance of ultraviolet rays is lowered. For this reason, the movement to use an inorganic glass composition as a material for the above-described analytical instrument is increasing.
- Quartz glass is well known as a glass having high durability against organic solvents and high transmittance of ultraviolet rays, particularly ultraviolet rays having a wavelength range of about 250 to 260 nm. Further, as a glass having such characteristics, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 64-79035 discloses UV transmitting glass, and Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2-252636 discloses glass for germicidal lamps. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 61-270234 discloses a glass for a fluorescent lamp for a healthy wire as a glass having a high transmittance of ultraviolet rays having a wavelength of about 300 nm.
- Quartz glass has a very high glass transition point and soft saddle point, so it is molded by heating and softening. It is very difficult to process. Therefore, if the above-described analytical instrument is made of quartz glass, it becomes expensive. Furthermore, quartz glass has a very small coefficient of thermal expansion, and therefore cannot be fused in combination with commercially available soda lime silicate glass or the like, which can be obtained at a low cost, when producing the above-described analytical instrument.
- the UV transmissive glass described in JP-A-64-79035 contains 15 to 18% by weight of boron oxide as an essential component.
- boron oxide as an essential component.
- the silicate glass composition contains an alkali oxide, non-crosslinked oxygen is generated, resulting in a decrease in ultraviolet transmittance.
- oxygen-boron is further added to the glass composition, the generated non-crosslinked oxygen is combined with boron, and no non-crosslinked oxygen is generated in the glass composition. As a result, the glass composition is said to exhibit high ultraviolet transmittance.
- boron oxide has a problem that the glass melt is liable to volatilize.
- the glass composition in the vicinity of the surface differs from the composition of the other parts, causing striae in the product.
- the volatilized oxygen-boron or boron compound erodes the refractory of the melting furnace. When these refractories are eroded, not only the life of the melting furnace is shortened, but also eroded refractories and the like are mixed into the molten glass, which may reduce the ultraviolet transmittance of the glass composition.
- the glass for germicidal lamps described in JP-A-2-252636 contains 11 to 20% by weight of & 0 + 31: 0.
- Barium is designated as a Class I Designated Chemical Substance in the Law Enforcement Ordinance based on the “Act on Understanding, etc. Emissions of Specified Chemical Substances into the Environment and Promoting Improvements in Management”. Therefore, it is not preferable to contain barium oxide in the glass composition from the viewpoint of preventing problems in environmental preservation. Also, since SrO is an expensive component, the above-described analytical instrument using glass containing SrO is expensive.
- the glass for health fluorescent lamps described in JP-A-61-270234 has a transmittance of about 40% or more in a wavelength range of 280 to 320 nm.
- this glass does not transmit ultraviolet light having a wavelength shorter than 270 nm, it cannot be used as a material for an analytical instrument using ultraviolet light having a wavelength of 250 to 260 nm. Disclosure of the invention
- the present invention is capable of defoaming and clarification easily and inexpensively with a small load applied to an environment having a high ultraviolet transmittance, particularly in the wavelength range of 250 to 260 nm, and for general commercial use.
- An object of the present invention is to provide an ultraviolet light transmitting glass composition that can be bonded to soda lime silicate glass, and a glass article using the composition.
- the present inventors examined the relationship between the ultraviolet transmittance of a glass composition and the impurities contained in the glass composition, particularly focusing on the transition metal content. As a result, it has been found that by reducing the content of iron oxide and titanium oxide in particular, a high ultraviolet transmittance equal to or higher than that of a glass composition containing boron oxide can be obtained. As a result of further detailed investigation, it was found that the number of fine bubbles contained in the glass article to be produced can be significantly reduced by containing a predetermined amount of iron oxide.
- the ultraviolet light transmitting glass composition of the present invention is represented by mass% and mass ppm,
- T—Fe 2 O is all iron compounds converted to Fe 2 O
- the total iron oxide content is shown. )

- a specimen was prepared.
- the transmittance of this specimen was measured using a visible ultraviolet spectrophotometer (UV-3100PC type C, manufactured by Shimadzu Corporation). The results are shown in Table 1. In this specification, the transmittance at a wavelength of 260 nm is simply expressed as ultraviolet transmittance.
- Example 2 For Example 2 and Comparative Example 1, transmittance in the wavelength range of 240 to 600 nm was also measured using the same apparatus. The spectral transmittance curve is shown in FIG.
- the devitrification temperature of each example and comparative example was measured as follows.
- the above sample glass was pulverized and passed through a 2380 m sieve to make about 40 g of glass particles that remained on the 1000 / z m sieve.
- the glass particles were ultrasonically washed in ethanol and then dried in a thermostatic bath to prepare a sample for devitrification test.
- 25 g of this sample was weighed and placed on a platinum boat having a width of 12 mm, a length of 200 mm, and a depth of 10 mm, and inserted into an electric furnace having a temperature gradient ranging from a lower limit of 930 ° C to an upper limit of 1180 ° C.
- the platinum boat was kept in the furnace for 2 hours, then removed from the furnace and allowed to cool to room temperature.
- the devitrification generated inside the glass in the platinum boat was observed with a 40 ⁇ optical microscope, and the maximum temperature at which devitrification was observed was defined as the devitrification temperature of the sample glass. The results are also shown in Table 1.
- the material had a transmittance of 60 nm or more at a wavelength of 260 nm at a thickness of 1 mm, particularly 80% or more in Examples 1, 2, 6 to 8. Therefore, it can be seen that the ultraviolet ray transmitting glass composition of the present invention exhibits a very high ultraviolet ray transmittance.
- Example 9 is an example in which the glass composition has the same composition as that of Example 3, but the melting conditions for producing the sample glass were changed.
- Example 9 The sample glass of Example 9 was produced under the same conditions as in Examples 1 to 8 above, except that the temperature at which the batch was melted and refined was 1550 ° C. Further, the ultraviolet transmittance, the thermal expansion coefficient, the glass transition point, the devitrification temperature, the melting temperature and the working temperature were measured by the same method as in Examples 1 to 8 described above. The results are shown in Table 1.
- Example 9 had the same thermal expansion coefficient, glass transition point, devitrification temperature, melting temperature and working temperature as those of Example 3, but the ultraviolet transmittance was the same as that of Example 3. Compared with 5% lower strength.
- Example 9 It is known that when a platinum crucible is used when melting glass, platinum is dissolved into the glass melt from the crucible. Also, platinum in glass is known to absorb ultraviolet rays and scatter light. Since the melting temperature of the batch of Example 9 was higher than that of Example 3, the amount of platinum contained in the sample glass was presumed to be greater in Example 9, and therefore The inventor believes that the UV transmission of Example 9 has decreased.
- Sample glasses having the glass compositions shown in Table 2 were produced in the same manner as in Examples 1 to 8 described above.
- the prepared batch was melted and clarified in the same manner as in Examples 1 to 8 described above. Thereafter, the glass melt was not poured out, but was cooled to room temperature with the platinum crucible. The solidified glass was taken out from the platinum crucible and used as a clarity evaluation sample.
- the glass composition of the present invention can be used for applications that require a thermal expansion coefficient comparable to that of ordinary soda lime silicate and high ultraviolet transmittance. For example, it may be used for applications such as ultraviolet transmissive windows.

carbon number = (バッチにおける、硫酸ナトリウムの二酸化シリコンに対する質量 比) X 1340—(バッチにおける、カーボンの二酸化シリコンに対する質量比) X 320 00
