[0003] そのような無線タグ通信装置の通信可能範囲を広げるための技術が提案されてい る。例えば、特許文献 1に記載されたミリ波情報読み取りシステムがそれである。この 技術によれば、複数のアンテナ素子により構成される送受信共用のアレイアンテナ( array antenna)を備え、各アンテナ素子カゝら送信される送信信号それぞれの位相を 制御すると共に、各アンテナ素子により受信される受信信号それぞれの位相を制御 すること、すなわち送信動作及び受信動作の何れもフェイズドアレイ(Phased Array) 処理を行うことにより、通信可能範囲を広げることができる。

[0005] しかし、前記従来の技術では、無線タグ通信装置の構成が複雑になり、製造コスト 力 Sかさむという弊害があった。このため、通信可能範囲が広く且つ簡単な構成の無線 タグ通信装置の開発が求められていた。また、前記従来の技術では、送受信の方向 を一致させて比較的強い指向性の制御を行うものであるため、前記無線タグ通信装 置と無線タグとが相対的に移動している場合には、通信の途中でその無線タグが無 線タグ通信装置の通信範囲から外れてしま 、、その通信が成立しなくなる可能性が あった。また、通信対象となる無線タグではない他の無線タグからの比較的強い返信 信号が同一方向に存在する場合には、その返信信号に通信対象となる無線タグから の返信信号が埋もれてしまう可能性があった。すなわち、通信対象である無線タグと の相対位置関係や通信環境によらず好適な通信を行い得る無線タグ通信装置は、 未だ開発されて 、な!、のが現状である。
発明の開示
発明が解決しょうとする課題
[0006] 本発明は、以上の事情を背景として為されたものであり、その目的とするところは、 通信可能範囲が広く且つ簡単な構成にて通信対象である無線タグとの間で好適な 通信を行い得る無線タグ通信装置を提供することにある。
課題を解決するための手段
[0007] 斯かる目的を達成するために、本第 1発明の要旨とするところは、無線タグに向け て所定の送信信号を送信する複数の送信アンテナ素子と、その送信信号に応じて無 線タグから返信される返信信号を受信するための複数の受信アンテナ素子とを、備 えてその無線タグとの間で情報の通信を行う無線タグ通信装置であって、前記複数 の送信アンテナ素子のうち前記送信信号を送信する単一の送信アンテナ素子を選 択する送信アンテナ選択制御部と、前記複数の受信アンテナ素子によりそれぞれ受 信される受信信号を合成する受信信号合成部とを、含むことを特徴とするものである

発明の効果
[0009] このように、前記第 1発明によれば、前記複数の送信アンテナ素子のうち前記送信 信号を送信する単一の送信アンテナ素子を選択する送信アンテナ選択制御部と、前 記複数の受信アンテナ素子によりそれぞれ受信される受信信号を合成する受信信 号合成部とを、含むことから、簡単な構成のダイバーシチアンテナにより前記送信信 号を送信することで、通信可能範囲を広げることができると共に、前記複数の受信ァ ンテナ素子によりそれぞれ受信される受信信号を合成することで、受信感度を高める ことができる。すなわち、通信可能範囲が広く且つ簡単な構成の無線タグ通信装置 を提供することができる。

実施例 1
[0031] 図 1は、本発明が好適に適用される通信システム 10の構成を説明する図である。こ の通信システム 10は、本発明の一実施例である無線タグ通信装置 12と、単数乃至 は複数(図 1では単数)の無線タグ 14とから構成される所謂 RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)システムであり、上記無線タグ通信装置 12はその RFIDシステムの質 問器として、上記無線タグ 14は応答器としてそれぞれ機能する。すなわち、上記無 線タグ通信装置 12から質問波 F (送信信号)が上記無線タグ 14に向けて送信される と、その質問波 Fを受信した上記無線タグ 14において所定の情報信号 (データ)によ りその質問波 Fが変調され、応答波 F (返信信号)として上記無線タグ通信装置 12 に向けて返信されることで、その無線タグ通信装置 12と無線タグ 14との間で情報の 通信が行われる。

上記制御部 32は、 CPU, ROM,及び RAM等を含んで構成され、 RAMの一時記 憶機能を利用しつつ ROMに予め記憶されたプログラムに従って信号処理を行う所 謂マイクロコンピュータであり、前記無線タグ通信装置 12による前記無線タグ 14との 間の RFID通信制御を実行する。この制御部 32は、送信データ生成部 108、送信ァ ンテナ選択制御部 40、受信信号合成部 42、受信信号復調部 44、受信指向性制御 部 46、及び位置検出部 48を機能的に含んで 、る。

[0075] このように、本実施例によれば、前記複数の送受信用アンテナ素子 20から送信さ れる送信信号それぞれの位相を制御することで送信指向性を制御する送信制御部 1 10 (S101、 S103、 S104、 S108、及び S109)と、前記複数の送受信用アンテナ素 子 20により受信された受信信号それぞれの位相を制御することで受信指向性を制御 する受信制御部 112 (S101、 S102、 S104、及び Si l l)と、その受信制御部 112に より制御された受信信号の品質を検出する受信品質検出部である受信エラー率検 出部 114及び受信信号強度検出部 116とを、含み、前記送信制御部 110及び Z又 は受信制御部 112は、それら受信エラー率検出部 114及び受信信号強度検出部 11 6により検出された受信信号の品質に基づいてそれぞれ独立に前記制御を行うもの であることから、相対的に移動する無線タグ 14との間で情報の通信を行う場合や、通 信対象となる無線タグ 14ではな 、他の無線タグ 14からの比較的強 、返信信号が存 在する場合等であっても、送信指向性及び受信指向性をそれぞれ独立に制御する ことで好適な通信を実現できる。すなわち、通信対象である無線タグ 14との相対位置 関係や通信環境によらず好適な通信を行い得る無線タグ通信装置 100を提供するこ とがでさる。
[0076] また、前記送信制御部 110は、前記複数の送受信用アンテナ素子 20から送信され る送信信号それぞれの振幅を制御し得るものであり、前記受信制御部 112は、前記 複数の送受信用アンテナ素子 20により受信された受信信号それぞれの振幅を制御 し得るものであるため、前記送信指向性及び受信指向性を更に好適に定めることが できる。
[0077] また、前記複数の送受信用アンテナ素子 20は、それら全部が送受信に共用される ものであるため、前記無線タグ通信装置 100を可及的に小型化できる。
[0078] また、前記受信品質検出部は、前記受信信号の品質としてその受信信号のエラー 率を検出する受信エラー率検出部 114 (S104)であるため、通信環境における妨害 波や壁面反射波の存在等を反映する受信信号のエラー率に基づいて送信指向性 及び Z又は受信指向性を制御することができる。 [0079] また、前記受信品質検出部は、前記受信信号の品質としてその受信信号の信号強 度を検出する受信信号強度検出部 116 (S104)であるため、通信対象である無線タ グ 14との相対位置関係等を反映する受信信号の信号強度に基づいて送信指向性 及び Z又は受信指向性を制御することができる。
[0080] また、前記送信制御部 110は、前記受信エラー率検出部 114により検出された受 信信号のエラー率が所定値以上であり且つ受信信号強度検出部 116により検出さ れた受信信号強度が所定値未満である場合には、前記送信指向性がより広角にな るように前記制御を行うものであるため、通信対象である無線タグ 14が相対的に移動 した場合等に送信指向性をより広角として送信範囲を広くすることで、好適な通信を 成立させることができる。
[0081] また、前記送信制御部 110は、前記受信エラー率検出部 114により検出された受 信信号のエラー率が所定値以上であり且つ受信信号強度検出部 116により検出さ れた受信信号強度が所定値以上である場合には、前記送信指向性がより狭角にな るように前記制御を行うものであるため、前記送信信号に起因する壁面反射波が存 在する場合等に送信指向性をより狭角として送信範囲を狭くすることで、好適な通信 を成立させることができる。
[0082] また、前記受信制御部 112は、前記受信エラー率検出部 114により検出された受 信信号のエラー率が所定値以下である場合には、前記送信制御部 110により制御さ れた送信指向性と等しくなるように前記受信指向性を制御するものであるため、前記 送信制御部 110により好適化された指向性を受信側においても利用することができ、 更に好適な通信を成立させることができる。

[0085] また、前述の実施例において、前記無線タグ通信装置 12等は、前記無線タグ 14に 向けて前記送信信号を送信すると共に、その送信信号に応じて無線タグ 14から返信 される返信信号を受信するための複数の送受信用アンテナ素子 20を備えたもので あつたが、前記無線タグ 14に向けて前記送信信号を送信するための複数の送信用 アンテナ素子と、その送信信号に応じて無線タグ 14から返信される返信信号を受信 するための複数の受信用アンテナ素子とを、それぞれ個別に備えたものであってもよ い。また、送信用アンテナ素子及び受信用アンテナ素子のうち一部が送受信に共用 されるものであっても構わない。このように、前記複数の送信用アンテナ素子及び複 数の受信用アンテナ素子のうち少なくとも 1本が送受信に共用されることにより、前記 無線タグ通信装置 12を小型化できる。
[0086] また、前述の実施例にお!、て、前記送信制御部 110は、前記複数の送受信用アン テナ素子 20から送信される各送信信号の位相及び振幅を制御することで前記送信 指向性を制御するものであった力 各送信信号の位相のみを制御するものであって もよい。同様に、前記受信制御部 112は、各受信信号の位相のみを制御することに より前記受信指向性を制御するものであっても構わない。

Claims

請求の範囲
[1] 無線タグに向けて所定の送信信号を送信する複数の送信アンテナ素子と、該送信 信号に応じて無線タグから返信される返信信号を受信するための複数の受信アンテ ナ素子とを、備えて該無線タグとの間で情報の通信を行う無線タグ通信装置であって 前記複数の送信アンテナ素子のうち前記送信信号を送信する単一の送信アンテナ 素子を選択する送信アンテナ選択制御部と、
前記複数の受信アンテナ素子によりそれぞれ受信される受信信号を合成する受信 信号合成部と
を、含むことを特徴とする無線タグ通信装置。
[2] 前記複数の受信アンテナ素子により受信される受信信号それぞれの位相を制御す ることで受信指向性を定めるフェイズドアレイ制御部を含むものである請求項 1の無 線タグ通信装置。
[3] 前記送信アンテナ選択制御部は、前記フェイズドアレイ制御部により定められた受 信指向性に応じて前記単一の送信アンテナ素子を選択するものである請求項 2の無 線タグ通信装置。
[4] 前記複数の受信アンテナ素子により受信された受信信号それぞれに与えるウェイト を制御するァダプティブアレイ制御部を含むものである請求項 1の無線タグ通信装置
[5] 前記ァダプティブアレイ制御部は、前記送信アンテナ選択制御部により選択された 前記単一の送信アンテナ素子に応じて前記複数の受信アンテナ素子により受信され た受信信号それぞれに与えるゥヱイトの初期値を定めるものである請求項 4の無線タ グ通信装置。
[6] 前記受信信号合成部は、前記複数の受信アンテナ素子によりそれぞれ受信される 受信信号を選択的に合成するものである請求項 1から 5の何れかの無線タグ通信装 置。
[7] 前記受信信号合成部における前記受信信号の合成量に基づいて通信対象である 無線タグの位置を検出する位置検出部を含むものである請求項 1から 6の何れかの 無線タグ通信装置。
[8] 前記無線タグに向けて前記送信信号を送信すると共に、該送信信号に応じて無線 タグから返信される返信信号を受信するための複数の送受信アンテナ素子を備えた ものである請求項 1から 7の何れかの無線タグ通信装置。
[9] 前記受信信号合成部は、前記送信アンテナ選択制御部により選択された単一の送 受信アンテナ素子及び該送受信アンテナ素子力も所定の距離範囲内に設けられた 1つ又は複数の送受信アンテナ素子によりそれぞれ受信される受信信号を合成する ものである請求項 8の無線タグ通信装置。
[10] 前記受信信号合成部は、前記送信アンテナ選択制御部により選択された単一の送 受信アンテナ素子を除く該送受信アンテナ素子力 所定の距離範囲内に設けられた 複数の送受信アンテナ素子によりそれぞれ受信される受信信号を合成するものであ る請求項 8の無線タグ通信装置。
[11] 無線タグに向けて所定の送信信号を複数の送信用アンテナ素子力 送信すると共 に、該送信信号に応じて無線タグから返信される返信信号を複数の受信用アンテナ 素子により受信して該無線タグとの間で情報の通信を行う無線タグ通信装置であつ て、
前記複数の送信用アンテナ素子から送信される送信信号それぞれの位相を制御 することで送信指向性を制御する送信制御部と、
前記複数の受信用アンテナ素子により受信された受信信号それぞれの位相を制御 することで受信指向性を制御する受信制御部と、
該受信制御部により制御された受信信号の品質を検出する受信品質検出部と を、含み、
前記送信制御部及び Z又は受信制御部は、該受信品質検出部により検出された 受信信号の品質に基づいてそれぞれ独立に前記制御を行うものであることを特徴と する無線タグ通信装置。
[12] 前記送信制御部は、前記複数の送信用アンテナ素子から送信される送信信号そ れぞれの振幅を制御し得るものであり、前記受信制御部は、前記複数の受信用アン テナ素子により受信された受信信号それぞれの振幅を制御し得るものである請求項 11の無線タグ通信装置。
[13] 前記複数の送信用アンテナ素子及び複数の受信用アンテナ素子は、それらのうち 少なくとも 1本が送受信に共用されるものである請求項 11又は 12の無線タグ通信装 置。
[14] 前記複数の送信用アンテナ素子及び複数の受信用アンテナ素子は、それら全部 が送受信に共用されるものである請求項 11又は 12の無線タグ通信装置。
[15] 前記受信品質検出部は、前記受信信号の品質として該受信信号のエラー率を検 出するものである請求項 11から 14の何れかの無線タグ通信装置。
[16] 前記受信品質検出部は、前記受信信号の品質として該受信信号の信号強度を検 出するものである請求項 11から 15の何れかの無線タグ通信装置。
[17] 前記送信制御部は、前記受信品質検出部により検出された受信信号のエラー率が 所定値以上であり且つ信号強度が所定値未満である場合には、前記送信指向性が より広角になるように前記制御を行うものである請求項 16の無線タグ通信装置。
[18] 前記送信制御部は、前記受信品質検出部により検出された受信信号のエラー率が 所定値以上であり且つ信号強度が所定値以上である場合には、前記送信指向性が より狭角になるように前記制御を行うものである請求項 16又は 17の無線タグ通信装 置。
[19] 前記受信制御部は、前記受信品質検出部により検出された受信信号のエラー率が 所定値以下である場合には、前記送信制御部により制御された送信指向性と等しく なるように前記受信指向性を制御するものである請求項 16から 18の何れかの無線タ グ通信装置。
