- Steam irons are known in which water is evaporated to smooth the ironing material and is applied to the ironing material via a heated soleplate. The steam relaxes the fibers of the ironing material and thereby improves the ironing result. Furthermore, it is known in steam irons to provide a spraying device with which a water jet can be sprayed onto the material to be ironed on the front after manual actuation, but with which only punctual wetting can be achieved.
- WO 94/23111 discloses an iron with an atomizing device arranged inside an atomizer chamber that is open on the side of the ironing surface.
- This iron disadvantageously requires an expensive soleplate construction, which has the further disadvantage of having only a small contact surface on the items to be ironed and thus a small ironing surface.
- the object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive iron with which a good ironing result is achieved.
- a particular advantage of the invention is that an electric pump is provided, with which water can be dispensed from a water tank via a spray nozzle for moistening the items to be ironed. In this way, calcification of the iron is avoided in comparison to steam irons, since the water is not evaporated inside the iron. Due to the electric pump and the number and arrangement of the spray nozzles, it is easily possible to bring the water in the form of a spray finely distributed onto the ironing material. Furthermore, depending on the speed of movement of the iron, the water can penetrate into the fabric for a certain time, so that it is moistened by the soleplate before being heated. The ironing result is improved in this way.
